Season lift tickets
Isn't this the time of year for the crazy season pass deals at all the ski resorts? Anybody have any info on what's available and what's coming up?
|
I think last year it was september at Mt Rose, not sure about the other resorts. I got a pass last winter and used it once. It was only when I got to the slopes that I remembered that I didn't like skiing. I am a genius.
|
You usually need to buy them before end of August or September (depending on the resort) for the best price. You can usually get an unlimited pass for only a couple of hundred.
Check the websites of the resorts you are interested in for more information. They usually display their killer deals in big advertising words. |
New to Reno, is Mt. Rose cool or really windy all the time? The two times I've been there it was storming.

I agree. I have had passes at many of the North Shore resorts. I can drive to Rose in about 20 minutes, get my groove on for a few hours and get home in time to get some work done. When going to the other places, it turns into a full day's outting. I will be purchasing a pass at Rose this season. |
Thanks for the input. I guess the only thing that makes me want to get the N. Star, Sierra at Tahoe combo pass is that my CA friends tend to get that too. N. Star tends to get a lot less wind than other resorts too. I bet Mt. Rose is a lot cheaper though.
|
Damn, I was wrong. N. Star double whammy and Mt. Rose are both $300 on their sites. Any way to get a local discount or somthing at Rose?
|
I stick with my Alpine Meadows pass
but a good value is the Northstar/Sierra Double Whammy pass |

Alpine Meadows is right next to Squaw. So, yeah about 45 depending on traffic and conditions.
|
Anyone know if season pass holders can get discounts for guests at either Mt. Rose or N. Star? Nothing is mentioned on their sites.

it was 199 last year.....but its damn good skiing so I'll buy it one more year |
$269 for the double wammy... $30 student discount. 4 blackout weekends (5 days over christmas) at northstar, but no blackouts at Sierra.

Anyone interested in a cheaper Alpine pass just let me know. Every year we get a large group together to purchase the season passes. Nick the Sunday through Friday is a great deal it will be somewhere around $500. Full season will probably be around $650. Alpine is really worth it. While I like Northstar, it is pretty flat and as of the last two years has become the most crowded of all resorts. Just take a wild guess as to how many of those $299 passes are sold. We eventually stopped going because the only way to get a parking space was to be at the mountain before 8:00 am. Otherwise you were either at the back of the lot or parking at the airport. Either way from the parking lot to the top of the mountain still takes almost 45 minutes. Alpine gets you to the top in less than 15 minutes even with a line. |
That's still a lot more than Mt Rose. Is there anything wrong with Mt. Rose? Does it get crowded? It's a bit small no?
|
Let me think about it. Sunday through Friday might not be too bad at $500, but not that I'm working full time, Saturday is one of the main days I'd want to go (esp. if people are visiting from out of town, want to ski on Sat, drive home on Sun).
Let me think about it. How soon will you be purchasing them? |

Its the closests to Reno, so it gets a lot of people. Plus the snow isn't as good, its kinda small, and since its a sole peak, it gets really windy. Don't know firsthand, just passing along what others have told me about the resort. |

Figure out how many Saturdays you think you will go. It is $39/day. If that equates to more than $150 worth of days, then get the full season.
top pic - Alpine Bot pic - Flat , I mean Northstar |

That is pretty close, although I have to admit there is some great terrain there. I've skied there a few times and it was great each time. |
good point. 3-4 saturdays, might as well go for the full pass.
damnit, I still need new boots before the season starts :p |

I'm a cheap bastard, I think I'm leaning toward Mt. Rose. At $300, I can still justify going elsewhere on top of that.
|
BTW the big news for Alpine this year is that they replaced the Sherwood lift with a high speed quad. For those that like to do back country hikes, this is a huge bonus for making laps in less than 1/2 hour.
|
I'm a *terrible* snowboarder... so bad that I'm not planning on going anymore (anyone want to buy an '01 Burton?). I hit Rose a couple times in '01... when the weather's nice, it's awesome, but like both Nicks said, it gets windy. If there's a little breeze in the valley, guarenteed it's gusting up on Rose. But it's so close if you can take a 2 hour lunch break, you can get an hour in on the slopes!
|
I may just pay by the day this year till I decide what I like. Sperry, you're board isn't a wide board by any chance is it?

Sounds a lot like my current board. I've had it about that long too. It's taken a lot of damage but I've gotten pretty good at repairing it. Sounds like it might be perfect for me. I'm 6' 5", size 14 shoes so I can only use a true wide board. My first board was a Burton Floater and my current is the Bullet...both the current cheapo Burton wide board at the time.
Please let me know the specifics including what you'd like to get for it and I might pick it up as a backup. Thanks, Cody |

I'm not sure what used boards go for, but this thing is pretty much brand new... I think I rode it a whopping 8 times before deciding I was too old to learn to ride w/o breaking something. I paid like $500 for it w/ the bindings, so I guess like $300 with the bindings? Like I said I'm not sure what sort of depreciation these things have. Drop me a PM and we can work out a deal if you're really interested! |
I went with Mt. Rose.
|
Dunno if anybody cares but, %100 of Boreal is now "jibbable." There are rails and jumps off of every lift. Since I couldn't afford a pass right now (moving is expensive), my dad got me a pass to Rose. Rose isn't the best so I think I'll get a Night Pass to Boreal, $99 all season. It goes from March to November, wait, switch that, 3:30 to 9pm every night.
|
That's a good deal.
What don't you like about Rose? Just curious. |
Um, it's not that big, that's not that bad (0), I think the only reason they have a park is just to say they have one, which means it's not that good (-1). And really that is about it. I've always gone to Sierra, which isn't that big either, but for the last 3 years the parks they've had have been awesome. And I have some bias towards it because I've grown up going there. But now I live in Reno and Sierra is faaar. I have a bunch of skiier friends that go to Rose so it won't be too bad.
|
Are the boy still skiing this year Jonny? I haven't heard from them in quite a while. I'm going to make at least one trip home to ski thise year; Mark my words.
|
Cool, thanks Jonny. I've only been to Rose a couple times over a pretty stormy weekend and I was a beginner then.
I'm pretty stoked about having a season pass this year. Boarding was one of the reasons I agreed to move up here. |
Rose isn't bad, esp. if you are a beginner. We'll have to hit it up sometime when they open.
Yeah they are still going to Rose this year. Eric, Tim, Kahlen and Joe will be there. Eric is gonna work there again (or so he says, you know those crazy stoners) and Joe is of course is doing patrol. |
<---Also got a pass at Rose this year. I've been there once but thought it was the way to go since I can see the slopes from my kitchen window. We need to have seccs days at Rose. It's easier to go if you have a ski/snowboarding buddy.
|
I'll post here before I go anytime I have extra seats in the car. I usually have weekends off, but if crowds seem to be an issue, I may rearange my work schedule.
|
I bought my season pass for Northstar/Sierra at Tahoe. I figured I'd go to Rose when people post up "dude, who wants to go to Mt. Rose today?" a few times this winter anyway.
|
I'm hopin my padres will get me a rack for X-mas so I can stop cramming my board in between my seats.
|
I'll be trying to sell a ski rack before I move, used to be MattR's, fits a wagon. Edit: see User Classifieds if interested.
|
well my fav is rose just cus its so close. also the chutes just opened last year so youve probly never been on those. made the mountain a lot bigger and less crowded. it doesnt get nearly as crowded as most other resorts. just my .02
|
FYI, there's some decent deals on boards, skis, and accessories to be found in the parking lot of Gart Sports. I picked up a sweet Italian helmet for $50.
|
heavenly
heavnely season pass is around $300. it's pretty close, maybe a hour from reno, good because you get hte ca side and the nv side so you can usually find a wind free area. MAJOR DOWNER lots of bay area yuppies and snobish folk. stick to the terrain parks and you'll be clear of them. great powder days.
|
Wow, I just checked. It's $319 with normal blackout dates (not all saturdays like at N. Star). That is a sweet deal.
|
Heavenly blows.
Short runs, long lines, all tourists. |

Alpine is still my favorite. All that access to the backcountry with amazing powder runs!
