Reno Fernley Track Day Oct 22-23

Looks like a racing group called TEAM will have a PDE on Oct 22-23. Details here with more to come soon. This could be cool.

MattR 2005-09-13 07:01 PM

Here is a link to sign up for this event. Looks like it will be primarily a NorCal Evo and TEAM(Miata) track day. Whom I have never run with, but from what I am reading, they seem like a good, well run group. link to TEAM

I'm not sure on this one yet, it could be a good time though. Here is the thread on NORCAL EVO

Bonster 2005-09-13 07:48 PM

Reno-Fernley is on October 22-23 (not 23-24)

Thank you Matt for posting about our event (with T.E.A.M. Racing). Thought I would include a few details. The website's actual URL is at http://www.team-racing.org (Matt referenced the URL for the actual registration form). The RFR event runs $175 for one day, $325 for both days. The event includes morning coffee service, a supply of Gatorade and bottled water, catered lunches, snacks, instruction, and at least two hours of track time PER DAY.

Details are at the website URL, or contact us at teamracing@weatherwax.net any time. We'd love to have you all out! There is a special $10 off for one day, $25 off for two days going on until September 20th if you can make it in. Please do not hesitate to ask questions or voice concerns . . . that's what we're here for!

Thank You for stopping in, hopefully a few of us can make it out there.

Will the new section be done by then?

***When I last spoke to track manager, Jeremy Cable, on Saturday (September 10th), he did not think that they would have it done by then. They are only this week beginning the paving process. Then they have to rigorously test it for safety issues, etc.. But I will gladly keep you all posted on it. At this point, we will be running the 2.4 miler in the CCW (start-finish on driver's right) fashion. I do look forward to the 'technical' addition to the track . . . but we'll have more events out there, so no worries. We will run the 4-mile as soon as it is available, presuming that's what everybody wants. Meanwhile, just by us being there and renting the track will ensure a more speedy completion date -- this stuff does cost money, lol.

I hope you'll join us no matter what Pat . . . it is a great track even at its current configuration (I was just there last month instructing for the Corvette Club -- it was a BLAST). :D

Can convertibles run? Pat has an S2000 with stock set up, no roll bar.

Pat R. 2005-09-13 08:22 PM

Thanks Bonni, I will probably sign up for this event either way. Am I correct to assume that since this event is associated with team miata that open top cars (S2000) are cool with factory roll bars?

edit: Slow fingers, Matt has my six covered.

MattR 2005-09-13 08:29 PM

I think I will plan on this event too. Should be a good time. I expect that some of the participants will be familiar from the trackmasters event.

Pat R. 2005-09-13 08:34 PM

The convertable question may not matter since I should have something with a cage and a V8 by then though...

What? What are you getting?

Poonstang with berries+1.

***Typically, S2000s already have structural rollover protection. Please list the year of the car and I will double-check with the local Honda dealers. Chances are, you're good to go. Pat mentioned the factory stock rollbars that S2000s came with -- which has as far as I know always been sufficeinent protection. They have structural hoop-like bars behind driver and pax seats. Honda is a smart company -- they aren't about to install a style bar. :) Send a pic of your car with the driver side door open to reinsure, and I'll call Honda / Acura to be sure. 99% says, it's a done deal.

***BTW . . . T.E.A.M. Racing and Team Miata are two very different entities. We are friends, but in no way associated with one another. So no, open top cars are not legal unless they have OEM structural rollover protection or an aftermarket rollbar. Please send pics if you are worried that your car might not be do-able. Most cars actually are. :)

So hey folks . . . where are all these sign-ups? ;) The track wants a deposit 30 days before the event . . . so that means I'll need to send in a couple grand by this Thursday. ACK!

BW

MattR 2005-09-18 07:23 PM

Okay Bonster, I will register for the event this week, as will a few others, we talked about it today. So look for us later this week.

Bonster 2005-09-18 07:53 PM

THANKS MATT!!! I can sleep better now . . .seriously . . . I LOVE putting on events, but there's always that concern that I won't get enough entries. NO, I don't do this for profit, I do this for FUN. Maybe that's why our prices are below the rest? I just love to play and watch others do the same. THANKS again Matt for the reassurance. ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz............. lol.

I am moving my office during the month of mid October / November, so I may need this to keep the sanity. I'll check with the boss. Anyone else going?

MattR 2005-09-19 08:38 PM

**Silly goose! It's 325 for the weekend -- fifty bucks less. But if you were to come to a California track, 375 would actually be cheap. Lol. And yes, it WILL be an awesome time. 325, believe you me, is CHEAP.

I won't be around for this one :(

This coming friday will probably be my first and last track day of the year. :(

Yeah, I just dropped $550 for 2 days at Seca.... $325 is cheap! I'm signing up just as soon as I'm sure I'll have a car in time to go.

Pat R. 2005-09-20 07:00 PM

I'll fire off a check maņana.

Ix-nay on the Ord-fay. :(

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-09-20 08:32 PM

I have a V8 Ford for sale if you're looking for one. :)

MattR 2005-10-03 07:36 PM

Well, looks like none of the crew can attend with me, so I've decided to skip this event. Maybe next time. I am going to spend the money on going to Seca to watch ALMS instead. Hope the event goes well/.

I told you I'm in if I have a car! :( 'Course, I haven't had any indication that my car will be ready by then, so I haven't been able to register.

MattR 2005-10-04 03:58 PM

Yeah, I'm not gpnna hold my breath...I doubt your car would be ready.

Besides, I bought ALMS tickets today anyway...So I'm going to Seca.

Bonster 2005-10-05 07:47 AM

Haven't heard from you guys in a while, I'm surprised! A few updates . . . the Subie Dude trailer will be there, as will LIC Motorsports. Subaru heaven! Also, they are sealing the new section TODAY . . . will be painting tomorrow. The new section will be open for us!!! So we'll be on the 4-mile track. Normally, this would cost us extra, but they are making us a one-time deal. So ya best get signed up SOON. Details, of course, are at www.team-racing.org Click on "Upcoming Events" to get to the page that has the reg and tech forms.

Bonster 2005-10-11 05:00 PM

Okay folks . . . signups close on October 19th . . . is anyone here going? I haven't got any checks yet. I put this thing on because I thought there were going to be a bunch of folks coming. Now it looks like I'll have to sell my racecar or something to pay for it. HELP! :)

BW

doubleurx 2005-10-12 09:14 AM

Sorry Bonster,

Between my sister's wedding this weekend, family staying at my house all next week and me moving my office the following week, I am toast for this one.

sperry 2005-10-12 10:34 AM

It doesn't look like I'll have my car back in time to have it ready for an event that weekend. :(

I'd pretty much have to get it today in order to smog and re-register the car, install the skid plate, toe hook, and fab the new PCV catch system in time for the event, and it looks like I'll get it back middle of next week at the soonest.

Bonster 2005-10-12 10:59 AM

Sorry that you guys can't make it. I've been in your shoes, Sperry . . . I instruct a lot, and there were several events where I didn't even have my racecar back yet so I missed out on the free track time. It is really hard to instruct and watch all day and all you get to do is take your street car out for parade laps.

Anyway, help me spread the word if you'd be so kind folks, we really need help on this one. I guess RFR just isn't well known yet or something. <sigh> How's the weather been up there? Do you think we'll have trouble over the pass?

I hope to see you guys perhaps at the upcoming Thunderhill events (November 25-26 and December 12th). . . by then everybody's cars should be fixed and offices moved. ;)

I know what you mean about not being able to drive. I was out at RFR in July running Timing and Scoring for the SCCA trials event. It was really painful to see all these guys whiping around the track when all I could do was time them. :(

Weather shouldn't be too risky yet. We're usually fine until mid-November. But it will be damn cold over the pass at night, so if it's wet, it might be icy, but the roads tend to stay warm due to the traffic.

When SECCS ran their track day at RFR last year, we had the same problem getting enough people. Most people will delay making a commitment as long as possible. We were very short up until about a week or 10 days before the event, then a bunch of people piled in. 'Course our event was in August, so it was a little easier than trying to run an event at the end of the season when lots of people are burnt out, or out of tires and money.

Have you talked with ET (Elieen Thomas) at The Next Level driving school? She can usually scare up a few people for an event, especially if you guys are running the new course. Also, try emailing Dave Deborde (ddeborde@aol.com), he's the regional executive for Reno SCCA. He might be interested in coming out to see the new configuration, and might be able to put at notice out on the Reno SCCA mailing list to pull some drivers from the local SCCA group. I know many are interested in seeing/running the new track configuration, and SCCA can't run it yet because it hasn't been signed off by SCCA National.

Just some ideas, since I know how stressful it is to get an event put together! Good luck! And if by some miracle my car is squared away before the 19th, I'll do what I can to get out there with you guys!

Bonster 2005-10-12 04:48 PM

Thanks for the ideas, Sperry! I'll have to try that! And yes, I've already called up ET -- she and I run in SM together and I've raced her old red SM a few times. Thanks again for your help, and I hope we get to see you!

BW

ivanko 2005-10-13 09:12 PM

If the track event get's "snowed out" or cancelled for whatever reason, do we get a full refund or only "rain check"?

Bonster 2005-10-14 03:24 AM

Given the conversation I had with the track yesterday, we'll all get refunds if we can't get over the mountain. He did say that it's very unlikely at this time of year. I made sure to ask because I am on race tires and no transport, and unlike you guys, I don't have AWD. ;)

You're certainly not going to see me. My new motor broke on the dyno Wednesday. :(

The new '06 EJ257 block won't even be in the shop till mid next week, so I'm a minimum of several weeks away from a running car. Then I need to break it in for a few thousand miles, which is gonna be tough, since my car can't get driven in the winter if it's too cold or wet. I may not have a track-ready car till next spring. :(

cody 2005-10-14 02:36 PM

Well that pretty much blows goats, Scott. Sorry to hear the bad news. :(

Bonster 2005-10-14 06:46 PM

My condolencses, Sperry. (did I spell that right?). Oh boy . . . by the time the next season rolls around, we best all look out -- you'll be hungry for blood! Lol.

That sucks... I hate that you are having all these issues with it. Hope the next one goes better.

doubleurx 2005-10-16 06:53 AM

Scott that sucks! Sorry to hear that.

Bonster 2005-10-16 08:49 AM

You're going to really think it sucks now . . . we might get an extra hour of track time each day! We only have two novice drivers signed up, but each of them have at least two days on the track down here already. I will still assign them an instructor, but I'm sure they'll go for driving in B group when I tell them that there is an extra hour of track time in it for them. So that'll be THREE HOURS each on each day! Crazy! I just figured it was kind of a sad waste to have only two cars on the track . . . and B group isn't even that full either (5 drivers). Of course, if we get a bunch of last minute novice group sign ups, we'll have to go back to the normal schedule . . . but what do you all think of THAT news? :D

BW

A1337STI 2006-10-02 04:38 PM

B group, an extra hour ? I think i'll be signing up to this, i'll have to figure out how much i'll be making off a Delta9 shopping cart (i'll know tomorrow) bit of side work to pay for some Driving :D oh yeah !! :) [unless its too late to sign up ]

I'd say it's too late to sign up... that was the 2005 event. And TEAM ran their 2006 event in August.
