1.21 giawatts?!?!?! (15 million candlepower)

So we went to Costco today:

http://www.turbocheese.net/hosted/costco.jpg
(that came up when matt googled costco :o)

And saw the coolest ****ing light ever. It's called the Cyclops. 15 million candle power of handheld flashlight doom. After we lit up individual apartment units that were about a half mile away :o, we decided to try mounting the light to my car. We found out that our Yakima wheel forks were just the right size for our super light :D

BEHOLD!

Oh and... SIDE BOOB!!

LetItRev 2005-11-21 12:52 AM

You better not point that up in the air or you'll have airplanes landing in your driveway!

khail19 2005-11-21 07:25 AM

I always see that light when I go to Costco and I think "Who in the hell needs a light this big?" I guess the answer is crazy Subaru guys!

Nick Koan 2005-11-21 08:09 AM

Says the man who has a light just like that from last year's SCCA Banquet... You just wish you had though of mounting it to the car first.

I thought thats what Commish Gordon used to signal Batman!

sybir 2005-11-21 04:10 PM

I bought another one......

*sheepish grin*

We're gonna work a on a more permanent mounting system. :D

Forgotten 2005-11-21 04:15 PM

Haha, now I get to see the mounting of the second one on SA, Nasioc, and here. I want some in-car rallying footage when both are mounted.

What is the battery life on a charge, and/or is there a cigarette lighter adapter to at least suplement the battery?

sybir 2005-11-21 05:06 PM

Claims about 40 minutes on a charge (haven't run it down yet). Comes with a DC plug as well as an AC charger, and you can either charge it or run it direct off the 12v system in the car.

Wow, I'm amazed it will actually run off the cigerette lighter. I was guessing over a 10-15 amp draw for that sucker. That's a good way to melt cigerette lighters, adn blow fuses... I'd hardwire the beasts.

I don't think it "runs" off the cigarette lighter... it *charges* off the cigarette lighter. At least that's what mine does.

sybir 2005-11-21 06:15 PM

Dunno. It actually has 2 ports, one for charging via DC or the AC/DC converter, and one for running off of the DC adapter. I haven't tested it yet to see what happens.

Jiggawatts? Jiggawho?!?!

What's even funnier is that your other lights will probably dim when you turn those spotlights on :D

You guys keep missing the part where there's a 6 pound battery *in the light*. So, running them plugged into the car won't dip the car's voltage.

Also, if that light's the same as the one I've got, and I'm pretty sure it's the same model, there's a plug for running/charging off the wall outlet, and a plug for charging off the car's lighter (but not for running). So at the most, the lighter adapter will only extend battery life, or do nothing if the internal charging circuitry turns off while the light's on.

I might be ricey, but I'm not that dumb ;)

I was just wondering if you actually did anything more permanent... Sounds like that is a big NO!

Ezdno 2005-12-15 10:23 PM

Don't run in the house, you could put out an eye with one of those, or at the very least get cramps!

sp00ln 2005-12-16 12:49 AM

Hey, I'm getting a sealed test in a minilla(sp, on everything??) envelope this tuesday a couple hours before my test actually begins... do you think this 15 million candle power light can shine a light so bright I can read my test through this minilla folder? :D
