Ouch

LetItRev 2005-12-09 01:24 AM

Damn! That stinks. Do you know who did it?

JC 2005-12-09 05:44 AM

That sucks man. Do you know who did it? Time for a Ver. 5 grill.

JonnydaJibba 2005-12-09 07:35 AM

Yeah some freakin slooz did it.

Nick Koan 2005-12-09 08:09 AM

Damn :(

Bob Danger 2005-12-09 12:10 PM

Anything other than cosmetic damage?

Kevin M 2005-12-09 02:06 PM

Been there done, that, had very similar damage done to my RS 2 summers ago. Here's some good news- you should be able to wrangle a $2500+ settlement out of it, less than half of which is needed for a CF hood and repairing the bumper skin.

That's a drag, man. Too bad revenge isn't an option. I'd drive out there to help.

sp00ln 2005-12-09 08:19 PM

haha! That sux! Same thing happened to me, but not THAT bad. I was in the car tho. Time for CF hood :)

Ezdno 2005-12-09 08:32 PM

man that sux! I can see cosmetic improvements in your future.

tysonK 2005-12-09 08:35 PM

Dang. Hope you can get out of it clean.

Bob Danger 2005-12-09 09:48 PM

I don't know if you should make an insurance claim. Wont it jack up you'r rates? Too bad you don't know who did it.

Kevin M 2005-12-09 10:22 PM

Nope, uninsured/underinsured motorist is a comp claim and doesn't affect you (unless you do it too often!). As long as you can tell the insurance company who did it anyway. It's obviously not his fault though, since his car was unoccupied and sitting still when it happened. ;)

Libila 2005-12-09 10:49 PM

The D-bag that did it didn't leave their info, so State Farm claimed it as an uninsured motorist which won't affect my insurance, cut my deductable in half, and scores me a a sweet rental car :)

I meet with a claims agent on Monday. The quote I got from a paint and body shop prefered by State Farm quoted me around $2,000 for the damage, which is sweet. I tracked down a new L hood for $100 and a V5 grill is in the mail.

Bobby, I haven't popped the hood yet in fear of it not closing again. The State Farm Agent said if I get the quote and I find further damage such as a bent radiator mount they will cover it too, so I'm in good shape to go ahead and fix it myself.

My front end will look a little something like this next week-

Kevin M 2005-12-10 01:37 AM

Dude, spring for an RS hood. Even if it's CF it won't run more than $500 if you shop around. Splurge on her while you have the chance man!

khail19 2005-12-10 07:56 AM

I think the L hood looks really clean with that grill.

I don't really want a CF hood though. I got the L hood for $100, and with all the money I'm saving sourcing my own parts I'll be able to get JDM tails, spats, V5 grill, and get all my stuff painted including my side skirts.

JC 2005-12-10 10:44 AM

You get extra money for your car and dump it all on cosmetics, you damn ricer Tim. haha

sp00ln 2005-12-10 11:18 AM

I really like that hood time, but JC has a point ;)

Libila 2005-12-10 06:36 PM

Id rather spend money on cosmetics than NA mods. Let's face it, the NA EJ25 is going to be a slug no matter what. I've already got a swap savings fund going.

JC 2005-12-10 07:38 PM

Eh, I think a bolt-ons + cams RS would be a fun car. I'm just giving you are a hard time though. Ricers are just the ones that stop at cosmetic mods. Nice choice of mods btw, it's gonna be hot. What are rims are you rocking now?

Libila 2005-12-10 08:06 PM

I've got Poordrive P1's aka Rota Tarmacs. I want new wheels, but I'm not sure what I'm going to get. I really like the Wedsport SA-90s and of course Prodrive P1s.

I've been thinking about how fun ZZYX's 300 hp NA RS would be to drive. For a while this morning I was looking through the NA section and thinking about giving my motor some love.

sp00ln 2005-12-11 02:59 PM

Farmers is giving you 2 grand for the repair?! And MORE money for the rental car? I believe farmers initally gives you cash for the rental car based on their rate and the days it'll take to repair your hood. So, you can take the 2 grand, and the rental car money ($150?) and buy a CF hood for $400, paint it if you wish? $300. Have $1450 to get a new turbo engine (JDM) install it and prolly still have money left over to buy ice cream or whatever. Am I wrong?

Libila 2005-12-11 04:15 PM

If only it were that easy Ryan...

The ice cream part pretty much makes that plan a done deal.

I'm sure they are. I mean, I can see the Mexican border through the window of my public speaking class. Anything dealing with a tacos or burritos must be here.

Bob Danger 2005-12-11 10:52 PM

I think Choco Tacos are a pretty loose association with actual mexican food.

JonnydaJibba 2005-12-12 07:42 AM

Hey now you can sell your vents and scoop and make even more profit right?

Correct

The State Farm gave me $1,800 plus a rental car for eight days while I get it fixed.

JonnydaJibba 2005-12-12 10:16 AM

Are you joking? $1800? Why? That's stupid. It's cool for you but seems moronic for a crumpled hood. What does $1800 cover? Insurance is stupid. This is why I have an insane premium? So insurance companies can dish out hundreds of dollars on nothing? -1 for life.

Um, have you ever had a car repaired? Just off the top of my head:

New OEM hood from Subaru - $400
Painting the hood - $300
Bumper repair - $300
Bumper painting - $300

There's $1300 right there, and doesn't include the labor to remove and reinstall the parts!

Most the people in this club are mechanically inclined and take for granted how hard something like swapping a hood is for someone that's never been around car repair. Being able to fix stuff is actually a very valuable skill, which is why shops can charge so much for labor. Most people have to pay those high prices, since there's zero change they could do it themselves. Insurance payouts are right in line w/ the cost of the repairs, if not actually a little low.

JonnydaJibba 2005-12-12 11:17 AM

Haha, oh really? I thought it was $1800 just for the hood and grill repair/painting.

Ezdno 2005-12-12 12:00 PM

New OEM hood from Subaru - $400 well hell if thats what an OEM one costs you definately can get a CF one and save the paint money too. unless you want to paint over it.

The insurance companies find every way to lower the prices. My lil honda got some front end damage, and the ended up paying $1600 but the repairs if I had the shop do it were about $2700 based on two estimates I got. I have come to learn that Insurance companies dont go by anyones estimate but the adjusters. No matter what you have to say about it.

There is a company in Vegas that warehouses all the CF hoods for most cars, I recently emailed them to purchase one from ebay and asked if I could pick it up instead of paying the shipping. What they said was they don't normally do that but if I called ahead they would arrange pickup and save the shipping.

I know this wont work if you dont know someone in or are able to visit Vegas, but its something to think about.

Bob Danger 2005-12-12 01:16 PM

I dig the lines on the L hood. Very skylineish. So what kind of rental car did they give you? Have you rallied it yet?

I'm using one of State Farm's "service first" shops that goes off the estimate done by the claims agent. If the shop needs to fix extra things that weren't noted in my estimate State Farm picks up the bill.

I popped the hood today to find my radiator support/fan shroud was bent, so State Farm is taking care of that as well as a laser unibody alignment and all that. I told them not to paint the hood, grill, and bumper because I'm going to get the entire thing painted once I get out of basic training, so that's more money in my pocket :) Not only did I not pay my deductable due to the money I saved on the hood, but I'm also making ~$300 profit when all is said and done.

Bobby, they gave me an '05 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. It was either that or a Geo...

Bob Danger 2005-12-12 09:40 PM

Personally I would have taken the Geo. I hope you don't have to put gas in that Dodge, although you do live in Bush country so gas is cheaper, because he steals it all.

Libila 2005-12-13 10:13 PM

I got in contact with Racecompengineering about getting a genuine V5 grill at their advertised price of $130. They said, "Yeah, we can get it for that price, but you won't get it for six to eight weeks." They don't stock them, so I have to wait till their next shipment comes form Japan.

I got it back!

All the under hood stuff is fixed, new L hood is on, and I'm waiting on the V5 grill. Yes, the hood is black because the shop that did the work didn't laser match the paint and I didn't want them to attempt to blend it. Also, I wanted to save money

sp00ln 2005-12-15 09:02 AM

I must say tho, looks good! Love the hood. Too bad you could of had a turbo JDM engine in there as well ;)
