Help with a New Car.
So, the time has come to purchase a second vehicle, and I wanted everyones opinions.
Here are the couple of vehicles I'm considering: 1.) 93-95 Mazda RX-7 2.) 95-98 BMW M3 3.) Bugeye WRX I'd like to stay under 20 thousand, and I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what you think. |
BMW, or WRX is the only choice IMHO. Probably get into a bugeye for $10-12K, and BMW higher in your range I would bet.
If you have time to work on it, pick up that salvage WRX in Tahoe, and parts from Rancho Cordova... Probably put that together for under $7K |
RX7.... cuz they're pimp.
|
Rx-7 fer sheezy. You already had a bugeye, why get another one? They aren't cool enough to purchase twice. And come on you remember what happend with the last one... bad omen or something to buy another one. Get an FD biatch!

And unless Bob can do the repair work for super cheap (bordering on free), it'll cost more to rebuild that car than to buy a non-salvage car, and when the work's done, it'd still be a salvage titled car. Besides, that car's a two time totalled car... who knows what condition it'll be in once it's torn apart. |

Aftermarket moonroofs are available...

(also I started my post when you stated they only cost $10k) |
OK, we keep typing over each other... can't hurt to call...

Of the 3 listed, definitely pick up the M. Those are solid all around cars. If you want something less refined but with 100 more bhp, C5 Corvettes can be had for under $20k now.

eBay: 2.2l WRX wagon with many upgrades SD, CA $12kBIN
Many others, but most to far away. |
OMG stay away from that car. It's an OBS, with a sketchy 2.2 Legacy motor. I knew the guy, it's hacked together.

The more I think about it the more I'm leaning away from the RX-7, The BMWs can be had for 15 to 17, its RWD which is a plus, but I asume its garbage in the snow, but the my insurance is cheaper on the BMW compared to the WRX, its incredibly expensive to modify however.
|
Get a Kia, never Mod it and live happily ever after...
(cheapest way out) :p |
Since this is a 2nd car, I'm assuming it doesn't have to do well in the winter. With your choices so far I'm also assuming you're after a fast car.
My advice is to buy a car that's fast to begin with, so you don't have to modify it. Unless sinking your bank account, blood, sweat & tears into a moderately fast car to make it moderately faster is fun for you. |

I didn't know he still had that car. Whoa! |

Couldn't help it.... had to call him. Brent says the car is sold. And I checked the moonroof is a typo.

Or my business partners 1989 C4 for $19K
|
Did Doug Gale ever sell his M3? IIRC he was only asking $14k for it, track-ready with bone stock drivetrain (except clutch and flywheel).

(i.e. you really should say "Porsche Carrera 4" when you're not on the POC website. :P) |
I'm going with a M3, or one of those M hatchbacks those are sweet I wonder how much those go for.

They have one down at Winkel Pontiac with no brakes(I'll tell you the story at the next meet) I started them at 18,500 for it. 62k miles, kinda beat up, silver. M Coupe. |

Also, I was in the truck today, and a sweet looking White M3 with a for sale sign blazed by me, I couldn't get the phone # of the sticker though :( It was probably a 92-95... |
Has anyone driven the Mazdaspeed Protege?
|
Fun to drive, but the engine sucks. I got to fool around with one once right before I got canned at Nissan of Vacaville. Also, the motor is really no better than an off-the-shelf turbo kit on a stock Protege. It's essentially just remapped fuel and ignition with an RRFPR. :/ Same as the Mazdaspeed Miata. But, the Protege is a great car, for a pre-2000 FWD chassis. Good handling dynamics, good reliabilty overall. But you can get an RS for the same money...
