What kind of Car should Tim buy in Germany.

I say Evo VI or Evo III, or a version 5 STI, no wait get one of those Maxi 5 turbos.

Dean 2006-03-16 08:35 AM

A Porsche of course. Twin Turbo AWD please.

Or can you say RUF?

JC 2006-03-16 08:52 AM

22B

A1337STI 2006-03-16 09:04 AM

Get the RUF isn't it like 500 HP with AWD ? probably over 1.0 G's on a skid pad ?

JonnydaJibba 2006-03-16 09:24 AM

Dude Renault Maxi 5 for sure! OR an Evo. I hope I can buy his car though.

sp00ln 2006-03-16 09:47 AM

Evo 6 - the tuners choice.

AtomicLabMonkey 2006-03-16 09:48 AM

Euro M3.

Okay, considering the cost of cars in Europe (think twice what we pay here)... I seriously doubt he's going to drop $30,000 on a used EVO. Or scrape together $100,000 for a 22b. Nevermind what it would take to buy a RUF. You might as well recommend "dude, you should pick up one of those space shuttles, I hear they cruise at 17,500 mph!"

How about looking for something affordable that you can't get here, like a Skoda, or a Renault. They're probably in the right price range, though they won't be sports cars or anything. Or go crazy, buy a Russian car just to say you had one... though I'd hate to work on it if it broke.

Kevin M 2006-03-16 10:08 AM

E30/E36 Bimmers are pennies in Germany.

$100k? Ya right. A LHD one might fetch around there, but a RHD should be $30-40k USD. It's a lot of money, but how often do you get to own a 22B?

An M3 in Germany is a lot less than the non-M here in the states. It's Germany's Z28/Mustang GT. :p

Dude, the cheap one you listed is $50,000... and then he's still got to import it to Germany from the UK. Sure, it's not $100k, but he's gonna spend that kinda money on a car, he should wait till he gets back and buy a brand new Z06 or a Porsche Turbo.

Ya I wrote the prices based on an ad I saw, then found the link after. Either way 22B for the win. It's not like you wouldn't get the money back when you sold it. Unlike someone else with a $60k Subaru. :p

that's just the asking price. It'll sell for a mere $80-85k most likely. :p

cody 2006-03-16 12:49 PM

Oh, is that all?

MattR 2006-03-16 01:01 PM

I say he gets a 68 Lincoln Continental with Suicide doors with a license plate that says 'wondrsx". He would own that country.

Lincoln Continentals kick ass.

Bob Danger 2006-03-16 01:30 PM

It would be wise if he bought a car with a USDM counter part. it will make it easier when he tries to import it when he returns from Germany. If he doesn't plan on bringing the car back, then he should not spend alot of money and just get a VW or something.

I know, I came real close to buying one when I was 20. A friend bought it off of some old lady in Bishop. Ca, she only drove it in the summer months so it had like 35,000 miles. I assumed she had horrible vision because the body was pretty beat up. Anyway, he needed a truck and wanted to unlaod it for 2000. But I just couldn't swing it because I had a Jeep that took all my money. I wish I would have picked it up though.

Hence my first post after Austin's M3 suggestion. ;)

Oh and Tim, buy ANYTHING cheap and American that will pass inspection so you get free POV transportation there and back. ;) American cars, especially ons not sold in Europe, resell well there.

I saw one down here in Carson at a little dealership on HWY 50, I remember Tim and I where driving by and I was said "wow, a mid-60s Continental". If I had the money I would've bought it.

Question, could he take his car with him?

Yeah, that's why I said that. :p It's part of your moving entitlements. If you change posts between two domestic facilities, you get moving allowance for your ish, your car, and your dependents, all if applicable. And overseas, it's the same, except some places don't allow POVs (like Korea and England :() and/or dependents (Korea, permanent Middle East duty stations). Germany allows all of them. :) The thing is though, if you don't take a car with you overseas, you don't get to take one back.

I don't think Tim knows that

Libila 2006-03-16 04:51 PM

I didn't know that! Are you sure?

I don't know looks like you have som research to do.

Kevin M 2006-03-16 05:32 PM

It might be an Army rule. You AF chumps get a whole lot more perks and higher standards of service from DAF than we got from DA. But do check into it, pretty much any NCO should know.

JonnydaJibba 2006-03-17 08:31 AM

Does this mean I can't buy your car?!

Libila 2006-03-19 10:03 AM

I'm going to find out on Monday if I can make it to the Family Support Center. I'll keep everyone informed.

In the mean time, let the car discussion continue.

JonnydaJibba 2006-03-20 08:15 AM

Family Support Center? Are you having a baby or something? My mom kinda sounds serious about this.

Hans Stuck is the man.

Bob Danger 2006-03-25 02:52 PM

I think Tim should get a Type R EP3, or a Clio V6

Bob Danger 2006-03-25 06:36 PM

Buy a Cooper or a Bug

tysonK 2006-03-25 07:59 PM

Yep, same with BMWs. I'm still unsure as to what I'm going to do.
