I may have found a new car!

MY98 STi Type R with 20,000 miles on it

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/rm55/Ad/ad1.jpg

No joke, I'm calling USAA in the morning.

Kevin M 2006-06-19 11:07 AM

That rules! Get the guy a deposit before you even bother with calling USAA though. I've lost 2 good car deals in the past from doing that. :(

Kevin M 2006-06-19 11:08 AM

Also, are you sure you want a RHD car on the Continent? (Which, I hear, is close to Europe. )

MPREZIV 2006-06-19 11:26 AM

Oh dear god that's sexy... You luck bastard! Good shit dude!

Libila 2006-06-19 11:32 AM

Real quick, what time is it right now in the Central time zone?

I need to know so I can call USAA right when they open.

What 'choo talkin' bout?

Kevin M 2006-06-19 11:37 AM

Dude, it's 12:45 PST, 2:45 CST, so get on the horn. :p

I'm referring to the fact that the car is obviously RHD, and last I heard you were stationed in Germany which, like the rest of continental europe, is LHD. The rest was an inside joke a few of us remember as being the funniest thing I've ever done when drinking. :p

Libila 2006-06-19 11:43 AM

Bahh, I can't. I don't have access to a DSN phone right now.

Yes, having a RHD car may be a pain but I've seen quite a few people here with RHD cars. In fact, I met a TSgt last week with a very nice Toyota Mark ii that had something like 500 hp.

Send me a PM and fill me in on this joke. I need a good laugh.

Kevin M 2006-06-19 11:47 AM

That's a job for sybir, no PM required. ;)

sybir 2006-06-19 11:55 AM

Let's just say that Kevin's normally tenuous grasp of European geography and sociopolitical structures isn't helped by "recovering" with breakfast at the Peppermill at 3:30 AM after a night of drinking. ;)

Dave (skimonkey) was talking about the posessions he left with family in Switzerland when he was working in the UK, and mentioned all his skis were still over in Europe. (He's a crazy, cheese-eating Swiss surrender monkey who was "out of town when that shit happened" but that's not important right now).

Kevin gets this look in his eyes of complete awareness, and announces to the whole table, "Dude, your skis aren't in Europe, they're in Switzerland!"
As everyone stares in wonder, he keeps trying to explain the distinction, and it went downhill from there :p

Libila 2006-06-19 12:34 PM

BWAHAHAHA!

I found a DSN phone in the dorms and great news! Insurance on this baby is only $217 a month for full European coverage. I'll hear back on the loan application tomorrow.

You know you're in the military and have no other bills to pay when $217/mo sounds good to you. :P

Kevin M 2006-06-19 05:01 PM

Err, not really. Wouldn't you like to pay $217/mo. for what is essentially an STi, as a single twentysomething in a foreign country? I miss my active duty USAA rates... :(

I was paying that here, for a WRX! Of course I was 19, but it's not like I had any accidents, not even a ticket.

True, but I after I pay all three of my bills and grocery shoping I still have $1,800 a month extra.

JC, I wouldn't lie to you

 Damn, I didn't know pay was still going up that fast. But, you are in teh Chair Force. You must be getting BAS or something?

I don't know what rates are like for an STi. I don't really want to have to pay $217 for insurance on any car these days. My point was, it's much more acceptable when most bills are paid for you. :P

Dood, I work from 7-4 Monday through Friday now, and that's it. I take that back, it's 7-lunch because after lunch we just play pool until it's time to go home...

+1 Tim

Kevin, I'm getting BAS which is $259-ish and COLA.

Now, the owner says he will deliver it too since I would have to wait on a tourist passport to go pick it up. Get this, we wants to meet at Nurburgring so he can have one last lap before he hands the keys over!

Things are looking good.

kidatari 2006-06-20 07:43 AM

Hey, can you get me that front bumper and lip? :D

Kevin M 2006-06-20 07:48 AM

You know if it was me I'd give you a straight trade + paint. :D

Wow and you were worried about not making enough? :?: Suddenly joining the AF is sounding much better than the other armed forces. I could drive sweet cars in foreign countries, exotic women, good pay, don't have to get shot at...

I pay <$200/mo for "what is essentially an STI", plus an SVX, plus a truck!

But I'm still in that horrible age bracket and European minimum insurance standards are MUCH higher than America's.

Jonny, I'm telling you, if you really want to join look at the Air Force first. I'm not going to pitch anything to you because friends don't do that shit, plus your smart enough to make up your own mind. Go in and destroy the ASVAB then you just may get your pick at any job you want. Don't leave anything to chance though, because that's what I did and now I have a super boring job.

bruspeed 2006-06-20 11:01 AM

Dude, I hope you get her, She's a 'bute!! I'm insanely jelous!

You can pitch all you want. I am trying to get the most views of the armed forces from everyone I can before I decide.

"Essentially" meaning from the insurance's point of view. Call them up and tell them that your car has 400 hp and is rarely driven outside of competitive driving events and see what happens. :p

Also, you suck. $190/month for full coverage just on the miata. Adding a 4x4 as daily will add another $45. :(

Here's the view from the Army...

Join the Air Force instead.

No joke. My brother in law is a Warrant Officer in the Army and he told me, "If the Air Force won't take you don't join."

Kevin M 2006-06-20 12:33 PM

Yeah, and to clarify, I don't think the Army's a bad place to be. What's negative there is pretty much universally negative in the armed forces. But, the good things in the AF outweigh the good things in the Army in my opinion.

JonnydaJibba 2006-06-20 01:10 PM

Hmm, well my main choices as of now then are the Marines or the Air Force. And I really can't see myself as a Marine (but that doesn't mean I won't do it).

Sorry for the hijack! Hopefully the info back from the USAA is good!

Kevin M 2006-06-20 01:21 PM

The only thing being in the Marines really makes you better at is being a Marine. Not that a career in any branch is a bad idea, but you get more options in the other ones. Plus, airmen never get asked to charge machine guns. ;)

But that is one of the main reasons that I would join the Marines, IF I do infact decide to go, to see action. Also the Marines are the farthest thing from anything I have ever done or anything I'm doing now.

Kevin M 2006-06-20 02:01 PM

In that case, go for it. Just try not to get stuck on a ship on nuke duty or something before you enlist. :p

Your brother also thinks i'm a massive stoner, just because someone knows how to roll sushi doesn't mean they can roll a blunt. Has he found out if he is going to Japan?

Its not a bad idea if you don't have a career path in mind, and want to travel for a few years. I was considering it for a while, I took the ASVAB, and scored really well on it I got a 70. I was going to be a Linguists, bcause it had the highest signing bonus, 6k for 4 years, and 11k for 6. I passed the DLAB (Defence Language Aptitude Whatever) and everything, but I don't want to waste 4 years doing something that would get me no where after I got out.

Kevin M 2006-06-20 04:49 PM

Signing bonuses are topping at 6k/11k now? They were higher than that when I enlisted. Then again, GI Bill was like half of what it now is, so it more than balances.

Most positions in the Air Force don't even offer a enlistment bonus. If I recall Tim didn't get a bonus, when he enlisted as a civil engineer, but if he was going to enlist a Sere or what ever that was he would have gotten 4 or 5k.

Kevin M 2006-06-20 05:36 PM

F that Sere crap! I'd rather *actually* be a POW, where they have to follow the laws of the Geneva Convention! Of course, that's kind of the point, but still. Special Forces school is "hard." S.e.r.e. school is "fucking miserable!"

Thanks for reminding me :P

Bob Danger 2006-06-20 06:12 PM

At least you did something, unlike me bumbing around the west coast for the last 3 years, working when I felt like it, and not having any worries... wait that was awesome nevermind.

M3n2c3 2006-06-20 07:22 PM

Oh, and I spent 5 years in, not 4.

Libila 2006-06-21 08:24 AM

Yep, no signing bonus and I was trying out for Pararescue and SERE but I failed the hearing test.

Bad news, the bank said no go on the Type R :(

Kevin M 2006-06-21 08:38 AM

Boo. :( Was it the car they wouldn't finance, or you?

JonnydaJibba 2006-06-21 08:42 AM

Why!? Tell those bitches you'll cut some shit!

Libila 2006-06-21 09:49 AM

It's because I'm a first term Airman, and the car isn't an '06. Those bitches got me all excited because they told me I'm approved for up to $30,000 then I gave them the VIN and they said, "It's a '98? We can only give you money for a new car." I was heart broken.

Kevin M 2006-06-21 09:53 AM

$30,000 will still buy a pretty sweet car over there. What's an STi go for?

Libila 2006-06-21 09:56 AM

30,000 euro

JonnydaJibba 2006-06-21 10:16 AM

WTF?! That's gay, why only new cars?

YOU SHOULD GET AN ARIEL ATOM THEY ARE ONLY 20GS!
