What do you guys think about the idea of getting a new/used WRX and not have any payments or very little payments .... VS. put some money down on an STi and still have some payments ?????
All types of Coments welcome ..lol

JC 2003-08-01 08:38 PM

So you are gonna buy an RS turbo? Good idea.

JC

STIwish 2003-08-01 08:40 PM

Then again I could buy a WRX and and mod the hell out of it and still be able to look like a sleeper to an STi ;)...

Thanks Justin...

PS: I found a good name for you dude!! here it goes :
JuSTIN !!!!

BOO 2003-08-01 09:15 PM

Now you see WHY I am introuble for being GOOFY !! LMAO

MattR 2003-08-01 11:12 PM

I don't know dude, Its all a matter of what you want. I for one, love having no car payment, like I do now, but since I have fallen away from loving my car (mostly 'cause of the auto) I feel I need to get something else. I actually considered getting an 04 wrx, and starting over, but I think I'm gonna go all out and get the STI. WRX are very capable cars, and parts, add ons and wheels are way more affordable, so its all a matter of preference. I could be happy either way, in fact, i would be keeping my car if it had a 5 speed, no question...so?? I don't know.

BOO 2003-08-01 11:32 PM

Well,
Thanks matt.. besides... We only live once !!! Wait a minute .. does this mean I am going thru my MID-LIFE crisis ??? already !!!
STI ALL THE WAY BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BOO 2003-08-02 06:22 AM

Hey Matt,
What do you think ???
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2425073494

MattR 2003-08-02 07:41 AM

For that price its worth a shot, you should check it out.

BOO 2003-08-02 08:17 AM

NOT bad huh ??? Too bad its not a White/Gold... Other wise .. I would have been at the airport this morning buying my ticket to Boston ...

Solomon 2003-08-02 08:55 PM

The only reason in my eyes to get a new car is for the warranty, AND that is only if you are going to leave it in tacked so you can enjoy the warranty. If you are going to mod it then why get a STi with payments and without the coverage. Do the WRX or RS buildup. :P

ArthurS 2003-08-03 08:53 PM

I agree. (Plus IMHO it looks ugly)

JC 2003-08-04 10:29 AM

Honestly it depends on what you want. The STi has a bunch of little trick things that make it a good track car. If you are looking for a straight line car, you can get a WRX to STi level with a whole lot of work.

JC

STIwish 2003-08-04 11:28 AM

Bah.. a well built WRX is more than enough to surpass the STI in the straights as well as through the turns.

Gorio 2003-08-04 11:57 AM

How about a www.i-speedusa.com tuned Impreza?

Well a WRX + 8Gs is not better than an STi. Plus start modding the STi and bye bye WRX.

I would think with 8k you could easily beat the STi. ITs my opinion, but that would put you WRX well above 300 hp and have even better suspension. You would have to sacrifice on the stuff that we all blow money on like CF trunk, STi lights, Grills, Etc...and go for actual power mods.

Only thing the STi would have on you then may be the breaks...which I hear aren't the best Brembo's anyway.

IMO.

JC 2003-08-04 02:03 PM

You would need a new tranny, a front LSD, bigger brakes, new wheels, coilovers, and a lot of engine work at the very least. There is no way you can do it for $8k. Plus you will not get the extra displacement of the STi nor the better Aerodynamics (if using an 02/03 WRX).

Would you really need a new tranny to just out-prefrom a STi? I know you would if you are trying to convert a WRS to a STi. I don't kow if the bigger brakes are necessary either.

I would say a WRX with around 310-340 hp, coilovers, 17"'s would get pretty damn close if not beat the STi.

I haven't had the pleasure of driving a STi yet, so I could be talking out of my ass, but it doesn't seem that much better of a car that 8k could match and/or beat the STi with a WRX.

The new tranny isn't to "out perform" the STi, it's to keep from having to replace it once you're making 310-340 hp. 300hp is about the limit the WRX tranny can handle... even then, that's plenty of power to kill a WRX tranny if you drive it hard.

The STi is truly a good deal. Pretty much every aspect of the car is better than the WRX. You might be able to get a WRX into STi performance numbers, but you'd still be missing all the little things that make the STi so dope... like the gauges, the nicer seats/steering wheel/shifter, the DCCD, waterspray, better diffs, lateral links, swaybars, 6th gear, bushings, engine/tranny mounts, oil cooler, HIDs, headlight leveling switch, lightweight rear glass, hood scoop, etc, etc, etc. I'd bet a full US'04 WRX to US '04 STi conversion would cost like $20k or more easy.... I mean, even the rear diff cover on the STi has an STi logo stamped on it and cooling fins! Trying to piece together all the things that makes the STi better than a standard WRX would be retarded expensive.

Wow. Well I was ust thinking the performance aspect. The STi does sound more detailed then I ever had thought. Especially if you can get it at MSRP, then you aren't spending to much more then we did on our WRX's.

6.Weight=2 tons.

If you want a straight line car go for it. It will need some cash to be a good twisty car though.
