I am back. But bad news....

Well I finally got back connected. Its been too long. I was going through withdrawls. Lack of SECCS does that to a man. Anyway on with the bad news. My car is trashed. I got into a nasty wreck and the Lude is undriveable. The whole front left quarter is gone. I will find out Monday if it's going to be totalled or repaired. Looks like it can go either way.

MattR 2003-08-17 10:08 PM

oh Man! that sucks, are you OK? Where did it happen at and how?

sperry 2003-08-17 10:51 PM

That SUCKS. Ask JC... he knows about beating up on cars. So, another subaru owner?

BTW: what happened?

ArthurS 2003-08-18 07:43 AM

Do you think they are going to total it? If so, any ideas for a nex car?

Sorry to hear that :(

ShawnS 2003-08-18 07:52 PM

It was Thursday on my lunch break and I was going to Port-of-subs on Glendale heading west. Traffic had started to back up on Glendale at Rock blvd, I was in the right hand lane and traffic was lined up in the left hand lane. Just before rock blvd there is a side street on the right. Well some guy in the opposing side of Glendale decides to turn into this side street, even though his view was obstructed by a semi-truck. I guess his logic was if he went fast enough, he could sneek through without hitting someone. WRONG! The guy took out my entire front left section.

Anyway, nuff of that. I am still not sure if it's going to be totalled yet. I should know by Wednesday. I also need to get X-rays done that same day. Hand hurts something fierce. If it is totalled, I am thinking of a 98 240SX or a 94 RX-7.

Was it a SUV? Sorry to hear about that man.

sperry 2003-08-19 08:06 AM

Man what a rip! Sorry to hear your hand is beat up... but hey broken hands aren't that bad, and you can sue... cuz that's what America's all about!

This month's Grassroots Motorsports mag has a cool article on "Budget Supercars", basically some older generation cars that are super cool and pretty affordable because America's obsession with SUVs has driven the market price of sports cars down.

IIRC the list goes as follows (in no particular order):

Chevy C4 Corvette
Toyota MR2 Turbo
Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)
Dodge Viper (yeah right... "budget")
Toyota Supra Twin Turbo (currently overpriced due to TFATF)

And, I'd add to the list your idea of the 240SX (with the Silvia swap of course!). Talk to Justin (STIwish) I think he's also looking into a Silvia conversion.

There's also a thread on NASIOC about people dropping turboed Camry motors into older gen MR2's... now that's a crazy sleeper right there... hehe!

Well even more bad news. Looks like they won't be repairing the Lude. The frame is bent in a way that it would be hazardous to put back on the road. Fuck I loved that car.

So, it looks like I am on the market for a new ride. My main target is a 95-98 240SX. I am also looking for a 93-95 RX-7, 90-95 300ZXTT, 91-95 MR2 Turbo, etc. So if you guys see anything or know anyone.....

sperry 2003-08-24 11:54 PM

We ran into a few cool RX-7 club guys at that Sac meet, I'll see if I can figure out who they are online and put in in touch w/ 'em about a good place to pick up a 7. One thing to consider, the Turbo RX7's are notorious for breaking alot once you get mileage on 'em... you might wanna think N/A RX-7... they can still be fast as hell... you should have seen the RX-7's at the Sac meet!

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-08-25 08:07 AM

Read the latest issue of GRM for a description of typical problems with 93-95 turbo RX-7s. Sounds like a pretty fast car, but don't expect the motor to last past 80,000 miles (as in: your fairly cheap high-performance car just got *real* expensive).

ShawnS 2003-08-25 04:55 PM

Yeah, i think an RX-7 is abit too much for me anyway. I am considering a 300ZXTT, byut I have heard that the turbos have a reputation for going out at around 80-90,000 miles. So i have to find a 300 with rebiult turbos, or stick to a 240SX or MR2.

I like the 240. We saw one at Gilson's Autobody that was very nice looking with exhaust and all. I would go that route.

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-08-26 07:45 AM

Just get a Mustang. They're pretty cheap, got big engines, and who needs to turn anyways?

MattR 2003-08-26 08:21 AM

Hahahaha! No Doubt Austin........After standing in line at the DMV this morning, I would have to say that , Yes, indeed, Reno is WhitetrashVille.

ArthurS 2003-08-26 08:22 AM

I don't know about Reno.....I woud say Sun Valley, Stead, Lemon Valley are. The DMV is just a hang out for people in those cities.

Matt - If you don't mind me asking, what was the cos to register the STi?

MattR 2003-08-26 09:18 AM

You really don;t want to know....the response from the lady at the DMV when the computer popped out my registration cost was..." Holy Cow!!! That's an expensive little car!!!"...It was about 600. ouch.

But, When she tried to give me my new plate, it ws something like 322*PUD...I said, hell NO!!!!!!!! I don;t want no PUD on my license plate....So she let me keep my old plates from the wagon. I should have asked for 555*STI, or 555*WRC...but definately no PUD!

sperry 2003-08-26 09:19 AM

I saw 069*LUV the other day....

tysonK 2003-08-26 06:41 PM

You can usually ship cross counrty to the tune of about $500. If the deal's that great, you can sometime factor in the shipping costs... $5000 + $500 shipping is still a decent deal on a $7000 car, for example.

BOO 2003-08-28 08:17 AM

Exactly !! sometimes... The best deals are in bigger metropolitan areas.. so it just depends on what you want and HOW bad you want it ..

BOO 2003-08-28 08:18 AM

Remember, Florida is where I purchased my SUPRA TT.. 8)

STIwish 2003-08-28 03:19 PM

$500 to ship it? damn.. i didnt know that... GET IT NOW!!

ShawnS 2003-08-28 10:47 PM

Its more in the range of a $1000. I already got a quote. I am not to sure I want a car from the east coast. I heard rust becomes a problem after a while.

BOO 2003-08-29 06:36 AM

Hmmm, Well I guess I lucked out then cause Mine Never had rust ...
Well either way.. I will continue to keep my eye out for you .

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-08-29 07:31 AM

You also got yours from Florida, where it doesn't get cold... I think the problem is mostly in the northeast where it snows in the winter.. it's wet all the time and they salt the roads for traction, so cars get a lot more rust than say in California.

The problem with FL cars... is if they were New England cars 1st, then they're fucked. Like Austin said, all the winter salt in NE rusts cars, but usually it's so cold when the salt's out that the salt water and snow stays pretty much frozen on the car and doesn't rust (ppl that park in a garage actually get more rust than ppl that leave their cars outside!) However a car that's got a little NE rust on it that moves to FL rusts out quick since it's so humid there year around.

ShawnS 2003-08-29 12:31 PM

Forget it guys. I cant get another car. I only have $1500 left. The original plan was to have a substitution of calateral. The other guys insurance would have paid me for what the car is worth if it were to sell on a dealership lot. Then use that money to find another car around the same price and buy it out-right. Then after all that, just change the VIN # on the original loan for my Prelude and keep making the same payments, just on another car. Ford credit service(the people that told me I could do this) told me today that I cant do this now because I dont qualify. What they forgot to tell me the first time I talked to them is that to qualify, I have to buy from a dealership, the car has to be a lemon, and it can't be used. Apparently, the person I talked to didnt have the authorization to advise me the first time.

So now I am shit out of luck.

so you have only 1,500 bills from the wreck? But were you able to pay off the loan on the prelude? If so, then use that as a downpayment on another car maybe? Try going for another loan through a dealership...and maybe a co-signer may help.

Shitty luck. Sorry man.
