The new "KS Tech" Hood Vent scoop delete...

I finally got around to revising my hood vent. The fit is better, it is now flush with the hood, and the opening is a little bigger. I still need something to pull the front corners down, but I'm working on it...

Looks pretty clean dude! You ever get the GC/GDA ones fabbed up, or just been spending all your time on your own car? :P

knucklesplitter 2007-02-19 08:06 AM

I wish I had more time, Cory. I'd have one for every model year by now if I didn't have kids and an inconsiderate day job. You should see my mailing list of people interested in these after all I did was post some pics on NASIOC. I think I will do the 06/07 next, then the 01-03, then the GC/CDA.

I've also been working on some many other "KS Tech" products. Some cool stuff coming out in next few months.

tysonK 2007-02-19 08:06 AM

You could make an evo one!

That whole "no time" thing, I completely understand dude! I knew you said you had a TON of people looking for these things! Just curious if you had gotten to the others! Good work man!

I think another company is already on that. I can't think of the name... it's something like Dee Essem or whatever. :P

You know, actually the Grillcraft mesh would look pretty good in the EVO vent. Hmmm...

cody 2007-02-19 08:55 AM

You made that? It looks good. The mesh matches the mesh in my grill.

M3n2c3 2007-02-19 10:12 AM

That's purty. Makes me wish I had a scoop to delete.

tysonK 2007-02-19 12:58 PM

I'm just kidding, they come with them stock. well pretty much at least.

I'd of course rather have a custom one.

Libila 2007-02-20 01:52 AM

That looks great!

JonnydaJibba 2007-02-28 11:14 AM

Nice. Is it possible you could let us know when if/when you make more before the NAZIocs? Ya know, cuz we're way cooler and stuff.

wrxkidid 2007-02-28 09:14 PM

yea let us know. does it change the efficiency of the ic at all?

i lied i spy fmic pipes.

knucklesplitter 2007-03-01 08:26 AM

Definitely for front-mount IC's only...

20 04/05 bezel frames have been ordered from a local machine shop. Grillcraft mesh is at the waterjet cutter. Gotta line up a powder coater. Pricing is not finalized yet, but it is around $200 (plus tax unfortunately for Nevadans).

See, Mr. Jonathon D. Jibber - Esquire... you heard it here first. ;)

Haw.

JonnydaJibba 2007-03-01 09:02 AM

Jonathan. =)

BTW it looks great on your car. Combined with that (s20-something right?) wing, you have a very sleepy STi.

Did you get the corners sucked down? I think a precision light smack with a rubber mallet should shape them beautifully. :)

I <heart> preskishon mallets!

No, I added extra studs to the front corners to pull them flush. Looks like Subaru may have had fasteners there at one point, since there was a nice clearance in the underside sheetmetal for them.

The spoiler is the Subaru-brand "Euro spoiler", only available in Europe. I've never seen another US Subie in person that had one and only one on the Intarwebs. I looked into importing them, but it would be expensive.

chrscott_01 2007-03-01 05:33 PM

Very nice. Any closer to covering up those butt-ugly license plate holes in the front of my car for me? Haha:)> Hey, The Powder Man off Marietta? (775.359.2480) does good work at a pretty good price.

MattR 2007-03-01 09:59 PM

I knew a guy who went by the nickname "Powder Man" once....

Anyway.

100_Percent_Juice 2007-03-02 09:35 AM

remember to cut it with baking soda not baking powder...otherwise they'll have muffins growning out of their nose...

100_Percent_Juice 2007-03-02 09:38 AM

Back on topic, I think that looks awesome, do you have pics of it now that you got the front corners sucked down?

knucklesplitter 2007-03-05 07:59 AM

The frame is out for paint. "Out for paint" meaning out in my garage being primed and painted. I'll post s'more pics when it is done. Maybe I'll even bring it to a meet is I can ever get these new huge-ass injectors to run decently... in all my spare time.

100_Percent_Juice 2007-03-05 08:31 AM

^I personally think that it looks awesome unpainted. Like a brushed look.

Yeah, in some ways I do too, but I need a painted one for pics and to see how it looks. If I don't like it I have almost 20 others now I can switch back to.

BTW... I will probably be painting a few of these in WRB, powder-coat black, and/or Aspen white. Anybody want to do a photoshoot with one on your car?

100_Percent_Juice 2007-03-05 10:21 AM

If you did a PSM I would do one for you. But then I guess you already have your car for that:(

It might be cool to see what it would look like with your body kit. We could photoshop some wheels on there. ;)

100_Percent_Juice 2007-03-05 11:26 AM

;) yeah thanks buddy, my friend is gonna let me borrow his wheels for the photoshoot I have to do for kaminari so maybe if its around the same time we can do it all on one day.

Let me know when. Did Kaminari paint that hood to match your car too?

100_Percent_Juice 2007-03-05 11:32 AM

Yes they painted the hood and front bumper.

I need a trunk and spoiler (that I already have) to be painted PSM. I wonder if they would hook me up with a deal, do you have contact info for them?

My post was very unclear. I meant that new custom vented hood of theirs. Did they match it to your paint for your car on the photoshoot?

100_Percent_Juice 2007-03-05 04:12 PM

Ohhh, Yeah the reverse hood I believe is getting painted to match my car, and then they made a carbon fiber one I believe. Why? Would you be interested in that hood?

knucklesplitter 2007-03-11 08:01 PM

The final version is painted and on my car. I am very happy with the fit and flushness now that I added extra pull-down studs to the front corners. The paint didn't match perfectly using just the color code, but it is close enough for this one. Mesh and a few frames are at the powder coater.

JonnydaJibba 2007-03-12 08:36 AM

Looks great.

Kevin M 2007-03-12 09:06 AM

That's one of the best home-brew mods I've ever seen man. good job.

Have you thought about trying to tweak it to make a slight extractor out of it?

MPREZIV 2007-03-12 11:31 AM

Man that looks nice! I need a turbo, and then a FMIC, and then one of them bad boys!

That would be futile considering the high-pressure area that the scoop hole is located at. I also prefer the flush look to the reverse scoops that are out there that don't extract either (I assume). I do want to fool around with some sheetmetal ducting underneath the mesh to maybe get some bernoulli effect going on.

Kevin M 2007-03-12 03:31 PM

I meant more by dipping the front of the mesh beneath the hood (or sheeting beneath it) but it all comes to the same since there is that high pressure zone there anyway.

Yeah, that's what I want to try, but with sheetmetal underneath the mesh to maintain the flush look. I even though about extending the duct forward under the hood to try and find the airflow coming through the radiator. I've been meaning to duct tape up some cardboard to just see if any of it works. I use the hi-tech yarn test to see which way the air flows - tie some short pieces of yarn to the mesh and watch where it gets blown. :D

kidatari 2007-03-12 03:57 PM

Looks awesome, great work :D

knucklesplitter 2007-03-12 07:17 PM

I need a white and a black 04/05 WRX/STI to model one of these Hood Vents in powder-coated black for photos. FMIC is not needed, since it's just for pics. It takes 15-20 minutes to change a scoop out to one of these. Anybody interested or know anyone?

knucklesplitter 2007-04-04 04:10 PM

Teh pretty...

I processed your Nevada Business Reg. by the way... thought that was "neat."

Get the hell out! That *is* "neat", "peachy keen", and/or "boss". You work there? Bet all that spell checking comes in handy. ;)

JonnydaJibba 2007-04-04 04:43 PM

No actually not, really. I "key what I see." So if you fuck up, I type it in just like you wrote it.

Libila 2007-04-05 07:49 AM

I know I already said it but I think it turned out great! If I ever get a FMIC I'll be in contact with you :)

Should have some black pics soon. Another guy is painting both his frame and mesh WRB. :)
