Newbie here

You must be Art? This is Paul, I was gassing my WRX up at Sam's last night and a guy named Art in a black WRX wagon told me to check out this site, so I am. If you are him, let me know, I'm just looking for details on your weekly meets and such. If you're not him, sweet, I'm posting one hell of a confusing thread.

Booyam! Double Double with the EXTRA grease and onions... I'm getting hungry already!

Definately come by tonight, we're usually kicking it out in the parking lot till about 7:30, unless it's still raining. Then we're inside taking over the big screen to watch some rally.

MattR 2003-08-21 09:38 AM

MattR 2003-08-21 11:11 AM

Hahaha, Debi, No, I'm leaving my s/n alone over there, I like my 10000 series member #, It makes me almost old skool.

And Art, Sounds like a plan, It would be sweet for a bunch of us from Reno to head down there.

STIwish 2003-08-21 11:35 AM

hmmm.. is a double double worth me driving all the way up there? hmmmm...

ArthurS 2003-08-21 12:13 PM

Cool guys. Lets say we leave reno at 2-2:30 pm on saturday? That should allow us time to get there and dick around a little bit. Unless there is better ideas?

It will be col for all of us to roll up there. :twisted:

Why don't you come with Dean?

ArthurS 2003-08-22 01:33 PM

Okay here are the plans. We are all meeting at MattR's house at 2 pm. If people need directions they can follow me up there. Once we all get to Matt's we will take off to Sacto.

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/m...lr=2&x=66&y=12

So far this is who I have going:

Myself and Shawn {03 WRX Wagon}
Evan and Colin {02 WRX Sedan}
Ben {02 2.5RS}
Mike {04 WRX STi}
Matt {04 WRX STi}
Scott {02 WRX Sedan}

Is anyone else going to be able to make it? Its gonna be a blast.

sperry 2003-08-22 01:43 PM

If we're rolling so deep, we need some ground rules to avoid el policia. These are the things we found helped on the 500 mile trip to the coast.

- top speed, 80... lead car needs to keep it under 75 so trailers can keep up after traffic slows 'em down. When you're by yourself, you can get away with speeding, but in a group like this, not only do the cops perk up, they'll be able to pull us *all* over and claim street racing. :x It happened to some of the MIW crew a few months back... 2 of 'em lost their licenses.

- watch the tailgating... we had one car rear-end another on the road trip.

- use the radios, I've got 2 extras (assuming Sergio gives me back the one he's got in his car! :lol:) If you have a "family channel" radio, bring it.

- call out the radar blips... V1 owners need to be on top of this! ;)

STIwish 2003-08-22 01:59 PM

did Ben get his door fixed and is he on real tires yet?

ArthurS 2003-08-22 02:01 PM

Good advice Scott! We will keep it about 75-80. You and Evan have V1's. I think I may have a set of radios also. This is going to be fun.

STIwish 2003-08-22 02:04 PM

Goddamn do I want to go! This trip will be a blast for you guys

ArthurS 2003-08-22 02:06 PM

His hit and run is fixed. His real-bumper is still damaged from a hit and run that happened a long time ago. It has to go back in for re-paint since they missed the inside of his door handles. But looking damn good. And Evan's paint is frickin awsome!

Dean 2003-08-22 05:09 PM

I really don't think I can make it, but have some radios you are welcome to borrow if you need them...

MattR 2003-08-23 09:04 AM

GUYS!!!! I have had a change of plans, and i can not go to Sac tonight. I won't be around at 2, so we should probably change the meet location. Sorry about the change, but call me if you have any questions

sperry 2003-08-23 10:24 AM

Crap, that sucks Matt. She better be hot. ;)

Anyway, how about making this into a real road trip and hitting some better roads on the drive:

http://www.seccs.org/images/misc/Ren...c_In-n-Out.jpg

We can leave from my house at 2pm, and get to Sac around 5 or 5:30, which is plenty of time to make the In-n-Out meet.

We'll get to see Tahoe, and drive 49 to Auburn, which is a fun road IIRC.

Who's down?

pbaldy 2003-08-23 07:47 PM

Hey, hope you guys had fun. I was just ahead of you. I didn't do the highway 49 part; that should have been fun if traffic wasn't too bad. Picked up my daughter in South Shore this morning, brought her to Chico. I came back highway 70 up the Feather River. That's a fun road, especially when the traffic is light, like today! :twisted:

BOO 2003-08-23 09:03 PM

Hey guys... Ummm Since I wasnt able to go .. How about some pics ??
I hope you guys took a hundred Pics. :twisted: Ok maybe not but I would like to see some pics ... Ahem!! And I may speak for everyone .. :lol: :P

tysonK 2003-08-24 10:23 PM

Yah. I had to do a fantasy football draft, how did the trip go, I want to go next time.

ArthurS 2003-08-25 08:02 AM

Actually it was tons of fun. The drive down all 5 cars hadwalky-talky's so that of course made the drive very interesting and fun. BAN SUVS said he counted 35 cars at one point. Thats a damn big meet!!!

We had no problems with the law either. I will post some pics later today. The drive back was a blast also, even though we were minus one vehicle.

Here are the pics listed on NASIOC:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...89#post4479889

And of course the best pic of all:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...1/fb4cfd5e.jpg

sperry 2003-08-25 08:12 AM

Yeah, the meet had a pretty big turn out!

I was there until about 9:30 hanging with Kevin (BAN SUVS) and a WRX owner (I totally forgot his name/handle...)

IMO, best of show goes to Egan's black WRX Wagon. VF30, Vishnu intercooler, fuel rails, injectors, pump, Xede, JIC coilovers... not to mention all the cool interior goodies... a very sick ride!

Looks like trhe Sac guys are going to try and make this a weekly deal... at a better location (less traffic)... so if we ever get some free weekends, we can go hit 'em up again!

ArthurS 2003-08-25 08:24 AM

And I would definatly like to go down again some time. (As long as its in a different spot. And I do agree, that Wagon took 'Best of Show'.

STIwish 2003-08-25 12:54 PM

but did he have a big cow catcher of a body kit?

go >> show.

STIwish 2003-08-25 10:15 PM

eh, depends on who you ask.

I tend to speak for myself. So, if you ask me, go >> show.

However...

When was the last time a show car got a $1M bonus for winning a car show? In 1985 Bill Elliot won the Winston Million (Jeff Gordon also won it in 1997...), before and since then huge purses are up for grabs worldwide for autoracing events.

Name 10 people famous for building show cars. Andretti, Earnhardt, Shumacher, McCrae, de Ferran, Grist, Fittipaldi, Unser, Gurney, Brabham... etc, etc, etc... all household names due simply to their ability to go fast.

When was the last time 400,000 people went to see a car show? The '99 Indy 500 had over 400,000 people in attendance.

Name one movie about good looking cars. Driven, Formula 1, Days of Thunder, and even FATF1/2 (even when it comes down to it in those movies, it's all about being faster not better looking) are all movies about driving fast.

My point: Even though I can only speak for myself when I say "go >> show", there's overwhelming evidence that "go" brings more money, fame, popularity, and has a larger pop culture influence than "show" ever did. In short, if you did bother to ask... most people would say, "go >> show" too.

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-08-26 08:00 AM

Looks are pointless. Speed is King. Long live the King!

P.S. It's *Andretti* and *Schumacher*

STIwish 2003-08-26 12:05 PM

Just so you know, I actually agree 100% that go >> show, but I still respect someone who wants to do a really nice show car, and if thats what their perogative is, thats cool by me :)

Thanks to everyone else for the props. It's been a blast building this car up (I did all of the work myself).

Hopefully us lazy Sac folks can make it up to one of your meets to return the favor.

Take it as a compliment! ;)

(no really, he's totally kidding)

Oh, and welcome to the board! Yet another Subaru website for you to check, eh? :lol:

Egan 2003-09-16 01:32 PM

Hahaha!

Ya, another subie board to check. At least you guys seem to be pretty active. I've got to pull teeth to get the Sac folks to do anything. I'm trying to put together a Wentworth Springs drive and I've only gotten a few respsonses, despite the fact that I gave them 6 different choices for a date.

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-09-16 01:35 PM

Hell I'm a Mustang driver and even I think that car is non-rice (on-track photo gives it +10 bonus points). Special props for the license plate too, that rules. :lol:

dknv 2003-09-16 02:14 PM

ya, good license plate. Welcome to the board!

I looked at Scott's rundown of your upgrades, and saw fuel rails - help me understand?: what is the benefit of upgraded fuel rails? I recently found a nasioc topic talking about spraying the intercooler between runs (autox), and someone suggested also spraying the fuel rails and some other part. So, my awareness needs to be fed.
Thx.

sperry 2003-09-16 02:17 PM

When you run high boost (upgraded turbo) you need more fuel that the stock fuel delivery system can provide. Usually just upgraded injectors are enought, but due to the stock fuel rails design, cylinder #3 tends to be a little lower on pressure than the other 4, meaning it can run lean under high demand and detonate. The solution is to upgrade the fuel rails to a setup that can flow more fuel and provide more even fuel pressure to the injectors.

dknv 2003-09-16 02:33 PM

Makes sense! Thanks Scott.

BOO 2003-09-16 06:20 PM

OK help me out here .. I thought "RICE" Meant .. it looks cool !!! ... :?: :?
(I know I will get hell for this question ... lol )
