The Setup on Speed

Basically a reality show for 10 amateur drivers/teams to compete for a 100k contract, factory ride, and test driver position for pontiac.

So far they have given the teams a limited race team shop. The teams will be able to install/not install the stuff.

Unlimited Bridgestone tires they look like RE01R's.

They are driving the Solitce GXP trim.

Let the racing begin.

MattR 2007-04-18 04:56 PM

Should be a cool show.

I actually kinda liked Forzo Showdown, this looks even better.

tysonK 2007-04-18 04:58 PM

The young kid is getting owned so far. ahaha.

Forgotten 2007-04-18 05:04 PM

I don't like that kid either. Forza Showdown was pretty entertaining, hopefully this will be too.

Libila 2007-04-18 05:42 PM

I can't find it on Dish!

Dean 2007-04-18 07:15 PM

Kevin Deetz (sp?) and Ron Bauer are both on it. (NW region Solo drivers some have met) Hope they make it to the 10...

I'm trying to figure out the rules. I think they started with 20 drivers (Dietz, who actually competed in a Solstice at Solo Nats last year) was one of them; then I see now that they are down to 10 drivers, with Ron still in, and Kevin as his crew chief. I think the elimination round in the karts might've taken out Kevin (who, I've heard, hadn't raced in karts before, though he's probably one of the fastest Solstice drivers there is).

Dean 2007-04-19 11:30 AM

They started with 100 or more "drivers" I think which I bet included Kevin and Ron, but guess he didn't make it to the 20 for whatever reason, so he became Ron's crew chief when Ron made it to the 10.

tysonK 2007-04-19 11:46 AM

It became 10 when they ran Willow Springs or whatever track they were at in a Shifter Kart and the times were used to qualify.

no sponsor, no race. I had to laugh at the 2nd episode, alot of spinning, and More Drama... Survivor meets 4 Wheels...

tysonK 2007-04-27 05:00 PM

I thought Rhys was a little over the top, but it was funny.

MattR 2007-04-27 05:23 PM

Yeah, Rhys was laying it on pretty thick.

Dean 2007-04-27 08:41 PM

I'm just glad the punk who tuned down the sponsor and his stuck up Dad got the walk... And 3/8 mile flat ovals make you work, thats for sure.

Thanks scott.

Hey Dean...

This is how spoilers work

MattR 2007-05-09 09:28 PM

Forgotten 2007-05-09 10:05 PM

My Tivo jacked this episode up. Does anyone know of any torrents for the show? My search has failed me.

MattR 2007-05-09 10:15 PM

I believe it re-air a few times a week, check out speedtv.com

I don't see the latest episode anywhere on my DVR for the next 2 weeks, but I have last night's and could dump it to DVD at some point if you need it.

No Kidding, all that jeremy guy proved to me is that he can't make a clean pass to save his life. AND he's a crybaby...."Daddy, Daddy  "

I know! This episode made me laugh. I think he did a good job keeping that car on the track though, and that was some good film editing with the end of that 2nd race. Actually made me think I was watching a real (pro-real) race.

Also, some of the racing reminded me of my GT3/GT4 replays (at least, how I drive in that game). So funny!

wrxkidid 2007-05-10 03:15 PM

I'll see what I can do.

wrxkidid 2007-05-10 04:41 PM

sweet.

Dean 2007-05-20 08:11 AM

Damn, did I miss an episode this past week? My DVR didn't get anything...

MattR 2007-05-20 08:17 AM

No, I checked too, they didn't air one last week...it resumes Wed night the 23rd.

dknv 2007-05-24 08:59 AM

... down to the last race now. Still trying to figure out how the oval racing format did much except weed out one badly setup vehicle.

Dean 2007-05-24 09:10 AM

Yeah, I'm not sure how all that flat oval stuff with no-minimal time to change "SETUP" added much to the show.

And for the finale to go back to a narrow track they have already run on, I don't see how that will enhance the result. They should go to the big track which is open, wide and with oodles of passing zones.

Double Phister 2007-05-24 06:52 PM

I was in a training class all week with some of our other offices. I was talking to one of our guys from Utah and he said his son is/was in this. Matt Guiver.

MattR 2007-05-24 09:39 PM

Isn't that the guy that drove for Cobb?

tysonK 2007-05-25 06:10 AM

The show lost a lot of steam there in the last episode. And that chick Ashley(flag thrower) annoys me.

I mean how many amateur short track ovals can we watch? 1 is enough for me.

Yes. He also races bikes.

van 2008-03-13 09:54 PM

Anyone watching this season? I've been getting them on the DVR, so far so good

zpeed 2008-03-14 05:43 AM

I just watch a little this morning almost late for work. What is the regular schedule anyone know? (too lazy to search).

van 2008-03-14 06:38 AM

I think it first airs wednsdays at 5pm, then they show the same episode thru monday.

MattR 2008-03-14 10:59 AM

I'm just not into it this year.

The racing last season was a little too manufactured and manipulated. This season looks to be about 200 times worse. Yellow flags to bunch people up, arbitrary penalties just to create drama, instructions from the stewards like "if he doesn't make this pass cleanly he's off the show" and "if you drop a tire off you're going to the back of the line", etc.

I'll watch it in the background if it happens to be on, but I'm not bothering to record the season.

wrxkidid 2008-03-16 12:25 PM

MattR is just mad because he didn't get picked for this season

MattR 2008-03-16 03:15 PM

That's true, they told me my fat ass wouldn't fit into a solstice!

dknv 2008-03-19 06:00 PM

I'm following it again this season, probably only because I know 2 of the competitors. Kevin Dietz was with the season 1 Bridgestone team as Ron's crew chief (some may remember he raced in our Reno divisionals). Jr. (Mike 'Jr.' Johnson), who took over the Skechers car is also a national champion autorcrosser, he's one of the co-owners of Evolution Performance Driving School, and is one of those really fun people in-person - (he won the Roger Johnson Spirit of the Sport Award, given to the Soloist who promotes a sense of fun and tomfoolery - something like that).

When I saw in the first or second episode that one of the first eliminations, 'Stina', had barely any racing experience, I was rolling my eyes. Then she got blamed for setting the parking brake after coming in from the race, which 'probably caused' her co-driver to stall on the next race's start. Brother. Then that driver (Kaitlin) spun out on the oval track, was told to come in; and they ended up eliminating another dude (who also spun out twice, but stayed in the race until the end). Broth-----er.

I just wish they would actually give air time to the setup work and its effects on their races, instead of the contrived drama, the rules-by-the-seat-of-Scott's-pants, and the desire to film a great shot. Sigh. Next episode appears to have footage of one of the cars flipping. Tomorrow (Thursday) 5pm and again at 8pm on Speed.

van 2009-01-27 08:30 PM

Bump for 09?
Bullrun is on again:roll: , any chance of speed showing any good original programming this year?

MattR 2009-01-28 06:44 AM

Not Likely
