off-roading

I kind of want to go off-roading in my car... Would my puny 8 inches of ground clearance be enough?

Bob Danger 2008-03-14 09:13 PM

Define off-roading.

Jeikun 2008-03-14 09:30 PM

Anywhere there isn't a paved road? Not mountain crawling by any means, but just driving around in the mud and dirt...

WRX06TR 2008-03-14 09:34 PM

Not something I would suggest. Just my .02. The new 2.5i is definitely lacking in "rally heritage"

Jeikun 2008-03-14 09:38 PM

Bummer. :(

cody 2008-03-14 09:39 PM

I would and have in my car without issue. Just be reasonable.

I have taken my car out as well, but having driven the new 2.5i, I just can't say that I feel it is that off road-able.

Jeikun 2008-03-14 09:45 PM

What's missing from the rally heritage? Does it need to be higher off the ground or just lacking in power?

WRX06TR 2008-03-14 10:02 PM

It just feels like a commuter car now, like a Corolla (sorry). The old 2.5RS or 06-07 2.5i felt much closer to the WRX. I don't know they just feel watered down. Its really up to you though. I took the WRX out once or twice in the dirt with some snow to play around but decided I like the pavement more. Hell, I used to run my 99 Outback in some dirt areas to  (I was younger and dumber). I would just take it easy, no powerslides, or scandinavian flicks!

Jeikun 2008-03-14 10:12 PM

and I assume that I'd have to do a whole slew of upgrades to reach the basic WRX or STi level? (turbo, TMIC, scoop, drive train, ect)

WRX06TR 2008-03-14 10:25 PM

Ouch, yea. The general consensus is that if you want a turbo Subaru, it is cheaper to buy a turbo Subaru. Actually, I may be mistaken but I believe that you need to go even deeper to turn a 2.5 turbo. I believe you need a different block, pistons, ext. Also, most everybody around here is rooted in the belief that a heavily modded car just isn't worth the hassle. Ask Scott about heavily modded cars (Sperry).

I've heard that those are the sentiments for *all* the cars now. Including the WRX and STi. Everything is more "refined" these days.

WRX06TR 2008-03-14 10:30 PM

Yea, I have heard that too. But I haven't been in a new WRX or STi so I didn't want to say anything.

Thats lame... Oh well, I've got what I've got and you can't really beat a car bought by your parents.

sperry 2008-03-14 10:36 PM

The "refinement" doesn't really bother me. Maybe I'm just getting old. Whatever the reason, I'd much rather have an STi that's more comfortable even if it's a tick slower around the track... it's not like I would ever use the full limit of any STi on the street... or like it would be anywhere near as fast as the race car.

I wouldn't knock it, you have a great car. While it may not be the most extreme car on the market it is a great ride that will get you through the snow, rain, and is fun to drive. Enjoy it!

Sperry- I agree with you, the STi is a hell of a car to drive on the street. It was tough driving Emily's responsibly on the street! As far as "refinement" Subaru was aiming for a more "mature" audience and you are proof that they reached their goal  I am content with the WRX just wish it have a little more umph! Maybe an 18g...

100_Percent_Juice 2008-03-14 11:22 PM

Just take that bish off-road and ask questions later.

ScottyS 2008-03-15 04:02 PM

Hmm, taking a brand new car off the pavement where dents, scratches, suspension wear, underbody damage, rattle development, and general dirt infiltration are likely to occur doesn't seem like a good idea. Unless you can afford to replace the car when you prematurely wear it out, of course.

Why not spend a couple grand on an older Subie that is disposable?

yeah, but who's Bob Danger?

wrxkidid 2008-03-16 10:01 AM

Hes Bob Danger.

Do you go to DRHS? We whooped your guys ass in football this year :D

Jeikun 2008-03-16 10:37 AM

Oh, I see, it makes sense now.

And yes, I do go to Damonte... Right now, all of our teams aren't doing so well. Being such a young school, we don't have the programs in place and the backing of the general student population to really create a solid athletic program. (or someone like Luke Babbit(sp?))

Where do you go?

wrxkidid 2008-03-16 11:57 AM

Bishop Manogue. I am a senior what year are you?

Jeikun 2008-03-16 12:13 PM

Senior as well.

MattR 2008-03-16 03:14 PM

Maybe you guys can go to the prom together.

Not every school can hand pick players as if they were daises in a field. Manogue bastards.

Kevin M 2008-03-16 10:19 PM

Daisies...? I thought public school kids were all toughened gangsters and shit these days.

You obviously know nothing about manogue. Every HS has the players that are zoned to go to that school. Manogue can have anybody go there and play for them regardless of where you are zoned.

The only reason you get that day off is because the post office closes the gate to get into your school.

First, I know how private schools work. Second, you missed the funny.

JonnydaJibba 2008-03-17 11:12 AM

No, Kevin. Clearly, you are retarded.

Phrase of the day:"Serbian turbo-folk music"

JC 2008-03-17 05:54 PM

This thread degraded into a pissing contest but you can take a 2.5i off-road just fine. You can go play in the dirt with pretty much any car just don't be stupid.

Screw all you shitty Reno school bastards too.

yea but for the players to have that priviledge they have to pay the tuition that is more than a year at UNR...

We haven't won state in days besides individual events in track.

Haha. Speaking of that gate for our senior prank we were going to weld the gates shut so they couldn't get them open. But we decided it would cause too much damage.
