Valentine 1 Radar Detector

I just bought it a month ago and it works great, but my girlfriend hates it. I bought it for $500 but will sell it for $400, or best offer.

Kevin M 2009-02-19 08:55 AM

Does she hate the V1, or does she hate how you drive now that you have it?

fuente 2009-02-19 09:18 AM

She just hates the noise it makes when you are just driving around town. She likes it when I drive fast, so that isnt the problem. I couldnt be with a girl that hated fast cars.

cody 2009-02-19 09:24 AM

Man that's super tempting. I can't blow any more frickin' money this month though. :(

Dean 2009-02-19 09:28 AM

You can turn off X band which will resolve most of the around town stuff.

Also if you didn't know, you can turn down the "muted" volume with the rear knob and then when you do want it to be quieter, you just hit the button.

WRXlerate 2009-03-06 10:32 AM

That is damn tempting! Pm me your phone# so I can give you a call. Maybe we can work something out. I love the V1.

sti deede 2009-03-09 08:06 AM

The Valentine1's are listed as $399 on their website. What is difference between the one that your selling and the one online?

I was definitely going for the "best offer", but he won't even pm back...

100_Percent_Juice 2009-03-09 06:07 PM

fuente has not been online since he posted this.

cody 2009-03-09 08:06 PM

Wha? :?:

GusGus91 2009-03-10 03:22 PM

Maybe he's in jail or something. haha.

WRXlerate 2009-03-10 08:48 PM

It is a little odd that he would list something for sale, then not respond. Maybe his girlfriend told him to keep it??

100_Percent_Juice 2009-03-10 09:25 PM

Or maybe not everyone is a seccs whore.

cody 2009-03-11 07:10 AM

Wha? :?:

fuente 2009-03-17 08:08 AM

Hey all, sorry for ignoring all of the messages. Been really busy and forgot about the V1 for sale. Anyway, I think that I actually had to pay about $450 for the V1 (they charge a bunch for shipping) so I will sell it for $350, or best offer.

My girlfriend still hates it.

sti deede 2009-03-17 09:43 AM

I have a couple of co-workers that might be interested. I'll post up if they decide.

WRXlerate 2009-03-17 10:41 AM

It will probably be gone before then :)

sti deede 2009-03-17 11:18 AM

yeah probably. Oh well.

WRXlerate 2009-03-18 07:52 PM

It's mine now.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-03-18 08:12 PM

So are you going to resell it?

WRXlerate 2009-03-19 01:26 PM

not anytime soon

Jcjentz 2009-03-20 02:32 PM

The V1 basically eats a whistler for breakfast as far as sensitivity and features go.

There are very few detectors better than a V1, and they all cost the same or more, and only the V1 has the directional arrows and bogey counter that make it so useful.

Sperry, no more bondage avatars.

cody 2009-03-20 03:09 PM

I want a $40 one if it helps and isn't super annoying.

Most of the cheap ones aren't good enough to give you a useful heads up. So you basically get a noisemaker that detects automatic doors at the mall and that's about it.

Really, the only time a detector helps is if 1) you're not speeding too fast, 2) the cop is not using laser or pop/instant-on radar, 3) the cop is radaring cars in front of you, 4) you have a detector good enough to pick up the scatter off the cars in front of you.

And just as a general statement, radar detectors (even the best one money can buy) certainly don't give you the ability to just ignore the speed limits.

Kevin M 2009-03-20 04:24 PM

Yeah, they definitely require a significant amount of attention be paid to your surroundings if you want one to actually get you out of a ticket.

But!! It's the new sliding HANS tether system that apparently allows the driver to rock the fuck out in the race car.

Jcjentz 2009-03-21 08:14 AM

Just keep it under 100 so if you do get popped it's not straight to jail.

The best part is, around here the NHP officers usually just leave their radar on. And I haven't ran into any POP with NHP or Washoe county SO. I have seen it a lot in Cali though. Not to mention you run the risk of getting busted even having it in the car in that state. But if CA made it against the law to use one, there has to be a reason for it....they work. If pot didn't get you high, you'd be able to buy it at the 7-11.

Between here and Vegas NHP does turn the radar on and off. I caught one blip of Ka then nothing. I slowed for about a mile and a half, there was NHP zapping only the cars that appeared to be going fast, I know because he hit me but not the vehicle in front of me. Sneaky bastard!! At least he didn't nail me for doing 5 over, which I do admit to.

You definitely have to be smart when you are speeding even if you have one and know that they can estimate your speed if they didn't radar you and still give you a ticket with a hefty fine attached. Officers have to be able to guess your speed within 2 or 3 mph (I can't remember exactly) before hitting you with the radar in order to be certified to use one (I had a friend that used to work patrol in another state)

How many tickets has it kept you from getting?

Since when is a radar detector illegal in CA? Last I heard only Virginia (and maybe Mass?) doesn't allow them.

That's what I thought too. There's an FCC ruling that the government can't stop you from monitoring the frequencies used by radar detectors or something like that.

I had some bad info passed on to me then. That's good to know, now I won't hesitate taking it across the state line. Thanks
And it's Virginia and D.C. ... just checked :)

WRXlerate 2009-03-21 03:42 PM

It's the radar and laser jammers that will get you in a bind.

It is, however, illegal to use anything suction cupped to your windshield in CA so make sure you use your visor mount. Hahaha.

I think laser jammers are technically legal, since the FCC doesn't have the jurisdiction to regulate light frequencies. What my get you in a bind is whether or not a laser jammer counts as "interfering with an officer" or something. I'm not sure it's ever been challenged in court.

i have a escort 8500 and i think is great i only speed like 10 over if that, i had it for over a year and i think its save about 25 speeding tickets. am not saying that they will save you all the time but if your careful and pay attention they do work.

Last time I checked, escort 8500s are not $40. Otherwise I would have bought another one.

szucchet 2009-03-23 08:39 AM

ive seen a k40 that you install sensors in your bumpers and it cost 3500 thats alot of money to spend on trying not to get speeding tickets
