wing or no wing
hey guys i have a 04 PSM sti and i just came across somebody that wants to trade me their wingless trunk, but i cant make up my mind if want to do it.Iif anybody is got any inputs on wingless or not i would love to hear about.
thanks, silvio |
keep wing.

STI=Keep wing
EVO=No wing |
Wingless is sooooo 2005.
|
A minor variation of Van's
STI=Keep wing WRX=No wing |

Another variation:
Tracked = keep wing. Daily driven = remove wing. I *hate* the stock STi wing. Took mine off within a month. Much less notice from ricers, LEO, etc. |

OP. What other things have you done to the car? Supporting visual mods usually make the decision for me. I like wingless on some, sti wing on some, and the wrx wing on others. It all depends on your wheels etc. |
Since I am old and therefore know how to sit on a porch a whittle, I plan on getting a couple 2X4s hunks and carve some spacers to raise the top foil up and out of the middle of the back window. :) (Yes, I know they sell them for some rediculous amount.)
|
Dean just sculpt an sti wing out of ice.

There is no compromise with the limited. It is pure awesome! Are you listening Khail? As soon as you are tired of yours, I have first dibs!

STi - remove wing EVO - keep wing WRX - remove wing Limited lip/wing = best |
ZOMG I said something that people agree on!! Woot!! :lol:
|
Personally on the sti I would say wingless with the sti roof vein. But it looks best with car a little lower
|
Roger, lowering is a must for a wingless STi, otherwise it looks naked.
http://www.hooptywagon.com/img/carsh...8/IMG_3830.JPG http://www.hooptywagon.com/img/carsh...8/IMG_4041.JPG I have a Mines lip I still haven't put on, I'm leaning towards a Limited lip. I also have a Ureshi carbon rear window spoiler (think Hamann E39/E46 piece) that I'm procrastinating on....I don't like the STi upper wing without the trunk wing, as they're supposed to work together. The longe rI keep the back clean, the more I like it. I also have the stock trunklid/wing hanging in the garage should I decide to switch back. IMO, it makes more sense to buy a wingless trunk and get it painted and be able to swap instead of tracking down someone else's setup. One of the Sac guys is selling a PSM WRX-winged trunk in perfect shape, with full STi badging, if you want to split the difference and not go full wingless; I think he only wants $250 and I can put you in touch if you want. |
keep it!
Evo = wing STi = wing wrx = no wing |
I hate the wing. lose it.
Some evos look good wingless but most look better with it. |
Another variation:
STi in CA=no wing STi in NV=wing You're way more likely to get pulled in CA for an attention attracting wing and then they see your other mods... |
Maybe I am biased, but I definitely like the Limited spoiler. I was wingless for a while, but it looks better with the lip to me.

^Are those new wheels?
|
Yes, I found a brand new set of bronze Rota Actions on eBay a few months back. Too good a deal to pass up at $300 shipped for the set. Then a week later I found a great deal on a set of 225/45/17 Sumitomo HTRZ3 tires with less than 1000 miles on them. Ended up costing about $500 for the whole setup, mounted and balanced! I've been waiting all winter to put them on!
|
Sick deal. Should I be considering those tires?

If you don't need an all season, I think they are the best bang for the buck tire around right now. In Tire Rack testing they actually beat some pretty high dollar name brand tires.

Function > Form = Wing
Form > Function = No Wing It could also be that Form is your Function then you get Form = Function , Function = Wing * (EyeOfBeholder) which is either 1 or -1 :P I've heard you can gain 2 mpg by taking off your wing. but that probably assumes a lot of highway driving. if you Rarely drive on the highway you won't see much gas savings. so its more of a how do you want it to look question. |
Function > Form applies to me..........not getting eyed by every Honda and vehicle with a lightbar and a ticket book saves me time and money ;)
|
wingless is best.. plain and simple
|
I vote wingless as well.
|
Depends on the color and style for me.
I'm a sucker for the STi wing but I love wingless STi's too. With WRB, it could go either. Looks good all ways. I like black and white wingless or STi wing'd. Red and pussy wagon yellow, definitely wingless 100%. WRX wing only looks flattering on a blue and maybe a white IMO. |
I want an STi wing on my wagon. Juice, PS it on there.
|
Wingless fo sho! Every wingless car in this thread has just been skeeted on btw...
|
^Glad I haven't put my wingless trunk on yet... haha
I saw a wrb sti today with a wrx trunk. It actually looked really good. |
the wing adds 10hp.. ;)
nah, i mean it's more about what you want, and what you think looks good. forget what everyone else has to say.. if you like the riceyness of the wing.. go for it. IMO, both ways look just fine. |
