Sorry, most are of my car...But there are some good shots. My buddy Ian can take the credit for these.

First, Matt and Silvio both demonstrating the proper late-late apex at the finish.

Feel free to post any additional Hawthorne pics or videos. Ian shot a video of my car through the finish sections, but I didn't post it because the guy that drives the Saabaru is talking over the whole thing about what a crappy driver I am, so it kind of takes away from watching the car go through.

van 2009-05-25 05:52 PM

No pics of my beast, shit.

Holy shit, Cory, I was wondering where the fire-breathing awesome-mobile sticker was, I couldn't find it in my garage.:lol:

Matt tagged me up with it on Saturday, between runs without my knowledge! I'm so proud!

A1337STI 2009-05-26 09:23 AM

Cory has the best sticker package on any of the cars out there..

although your window banner is a lil weak :P

AtomicLabMonkey 2009-05-26 09:44 AM

Cory - how do you like your steering quick release? I haven't used that style before.

It's pretty sweet. Nice and solid, (no wobbling or play) and easy to use. The best part is how thin it is. It's about 1.5" tops installed. Scott got the same one for the WRX after getting to use mine.

I like it too... it was much cheaper than the super expensive Sparco rally ones, and uses some hefty pins to locate and lock the wheel in position instead of a spline-type junction. Plus I can't imagine ever being able to accidentally knock the wheel loose because you have to activate a lever on both sides of the release at the same time for it to come off.

That's mainly what I was wondering about. The splined units can get quite a bit of play as they wear..

What manufacturer?

A1337STI 2009-05-26 02:26 PM

I think i have a similar removable steering wheel style as Cory, he gave me his contact to order all the needed stuff for my rally car. Mine has a button i have to press to pull the holding ring though. (which is good as that's a nasa 09 rally requirement) No play in mine yet , and it suffers a lot of harsh vibrations...

Hey Matt, You should link that video anyways, (or pm me a link) I'm wondering if the Saabaru guy you speak of, is my buddy Nick who came down with me (and also had a Tahoemotorsports) banner on his car. ? Sucks someone talked shit about your driving over your video. I'll be kind of surprised if it was nick, but if it is i want to to rag on him for it (and point out how many places higher you are than he is in PAX) ... hehe

the proper way to ruin someone's autoX is to force them to pick up cones.. like if you are the Only one that makes them pick up cones... :)

cody 2009-05-26 02:53 PM

Anyone have an ETA for results? I'm F5'ing my life away here. :P

Amusingly enough, "Snap-Off Industries" Even a couple years in, there's no play at all in the QR. I'm definitely long-term pleased with it!

cody 2009-05-26 03:12 PM

That's like Gimick Motorsports. What were they thinking naming there company that??

Yeah, it was Nick...It's hard to make out everything but it says something like "blah..blah,,,this guy jerks the wheel around too much...spun out...choppy...blah..blahh.." It's really no big deal, different courses and surfaces require different input, I may not have been super-smooth through that section...But I was still pretty fast...so I guess I'm good. I'm not really sensative about it, I just wish it wasn't over the ONLY video of my car I've been able to capture in like 2 years.

Tell that Nick guy he's full of shit. Being smooth does not necessarily correlate 1-to-1 with being slow on the steering wheel... autocross requires way more input over time than rally or road-race... you can in fact be extremely busy on the wheel and still be smooth, it all boils down to how much your inputs are upsetting the grip of the car. Just take a look at the lap times to figure out who's doing it better.

I spun out twice there Saturday because I was carrying too much speed, Sunday, all gravy.

That's a hot pic of the result page. Mike just can't get it out of his head i bet... hahaha

With vegas hosting, and no Tire-pax I was 10th most helpful to the reno win. (Results err?) I got pwned once the Tire Modifer was applied.

Awesome to see Cory finally drive with a fair pax rating, and stomp all over my times. DSP could be quite the class to watch for close battles, and the very top of AS
good job Vic, damn on saturday .001 from 1st!! :| we need an STI on top of AS! :D

Dewey 2009-05-27 11:03 AM

I wish I could have been there. If only my car wasn't broken into a week before the event... Stupid thieves

cody 2009-05-27 11:09 AM

Thanks Mike!

I wasn't very instrumental in the Reno victory, but I got my 20 class points and 28 pax points for the weekend. One nice thing about having so many different ways to look at it is you can usually find at least one way that makes you look good. :P

cody 2009-05-27 11:14 AM

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Reno have a huge advantage based on our larger attendance? Could the event be scored differently based on the average pax of LV vs the average pax of Reno to level the playing field, or is that how it's already done, effectively?

Sorry, I've got turrets syndrome, and adhd, so I was really excited about trash talking you, then forgot what I was talking about, how to drive at all really... I thought I knew how to drive, then forgot half way through and went the wrong way around the course. I'm glad I could partake in your video though!!!! ;) I'm kinda like a movie star now!!!

If it'll make you feel better, I'll record you going around the track next race and only talk 1/4 of the way through it about your driving... :P

I consider myself like a nascar driver commenting on F1 cars, "what the hell is this guy doing turning to the right!?!?!?!"

I like turtles....

That's what i did, it only took me looking at 5 or so pages of results to find one that made me look not so crappy ... +1 :?:

I'm pretty sure that's how it's done. But that means it really depends on how many fast classes there are in each region, i.e Karts, ASP, BSP.etc...Which Reno has way more of.

Um.. what are you talking about? I didn't go to Hawthorne, so you certainly weren't talking over my video.

All I know is that you were suggesting MattR can't drive because he's jerking the wheel around, yet he paxed 4 seconds faster than you on Saturday and 2.6 seconds faster than you on Sunday. I would suggest you figure out how to go a bit faster before offering up your opinion on smoothness at autocross. You might be surprised at how smooth Matt actually is even when he's sawing on that wheel.

Sorry, I actually meant that for MattR, I don't want to offend you by using your quote...... :~:
I didn't mean slow steering, just smooth, I can't drive worth a shit, I'm just going off of what I've been told by people who are WAY better than I am, including a national driver who was in attendance... I'll take my PWN and shut up about other people.

Actually I would love for anyone to help me advance in autox so I can be equal with him or pass him in pax Matt is a really good driver from what I've seen, so he could probably help me a ton...

If you like I'll make a video for you and talk over it as well...? I don't want to leave anybody out or cause any hurt feelings.

Not really, because it's our average PAX time vs. their average PAX time. So, depending on which drivers show up, it can be an advantage either way.

cody 2009-05-27 05:38 PM

Cool, that makes the win all the more enjoyable. :) Just making sure they have no excuse. :P

sperry 2009-05-28 09:41 AM

In the past, we even went as far as dropping the lowest 10% of times from each side too, just so the regions didn't discourage new drivers from coming out and hurting the Challenge results. I'm not sure if that was done this season though since I wasn't there.

Kevin M 2009-05-28 10:41 AM

We dropped times that were more than 125% of the winning PAX time. IIRC this is how we've been doing it since I've been going out there.

MattR 2009-06-01 05:24 PM
