SECCS Fender Rolling Party - June 14th - $20/car

I have Sybir's fender roller and heat gun as he was kind enough to lend them to me. I'd like to have a fender rolling party and I believe that the only day that will work for me is Sunday, June 14th. I'll be doing my timing belt on Saturday, the 13th so hopefully I'll be done by Sunday morning. :)

I, myself, do not have any experience rolling fenders but it seems fairly straightforward. Hopefully someone with experience will be there though. Unless someone with a better location would like it at their house/shop, etc, we'll have it at my house in Stead. I have a two car garage, a jack and jackstands and basic tools.

Sybir would like a $20 donation to go to SECCS (hosting fees, etc) for each car. Let's just make it $20 flat even if you only need the rears rolled. It's for a good cause. Sperry, please let me know what method[s] of payment you are okay with and I can keep track of payments. If you can't afford the $20, think it's too expensive, think I'm a big jerk, etc, post up and we'll see what we can do.

I'll keep an updated list of interested people in this post. We'll decide on a start time later based on the size of the list and the existence of any desire to get an early start. In the event of battles for timeslots, your post number in this thead will dictate who prevails.

If we end up with tons of interest and one day isn't going to cut it, perhaps somebody that Sybir trusts could get his permission to throw another one of these on a different day.

Entry List

1. Cody
2. youloze

Edit (6/11/09): Well, we don't have very many people getting their fenders rolled, apparently, but Robbie and his family are being nice enough to let us use their garage with a lift and Robbie's going to be BBQing burgers, etc. We still need people to bring drinks (no alcohol allowed), chips and salsa, Brats, buns, tomato, lettuce, onion, etc and whatever else you may want to bring. Think potluck and post up what you may bring.

Rolling begins at 9am and I imagine the BBQ will get fired up around noon. Here's Robbie's address:

Its down off the So. Meadows Pkwy Exit off 395

My cell is 240-9891

Edit: (6/12/09)

A note from RobbY: :D

Anyone and everyone is welcome to come, and if you want, after we are done rolling fenders, I am more than willing to put anyones car on the rack that wants it up there so you can check it out from a different perspective than on your back. People are welcome to do fluid changes as well at this event once the main objective is accomplished, but I will say that you need to take your excess fluids with you and dispose of them by yourself, usually i will accomodate this but with the number of people I feel will be making an appearence i cannot take responsibility for the fluids you drain from your car.

1. I and only I operate the lift, this is for insurance and safety reasons. Cory (MPREZIV) if you show your fine as I know you know what your doing but anyone else, Only Cory or I may operate the hoist. It has the potential for catastrophic failure and this can come back on my parents, which I am not willing to risk.
2. No booze - This isn't me its my parents request
3. No tobbaco - again by parental request, theres a school across the street where you may go and smoke/chew whatever you want to do but not on my property as per my mommy,
4. Excess fluids must be disposed of personally, I am not responsible for your waste!
5. Respect - All I ask is you respect my personal property as I am allowing you to use it, and we wont have any problems.

I hate to be a bastard and be a rule maker, these are more my parents rules than mine, but I please ask you to respect them, and hopefully in the future maybe we can make a semi-annual SECCS Install day/BBQ at my house.
Please respect these rules as Robby's parents are our gracious hosts and these are their rules.

I would suggest that you ensure someone w/ fender rolling experience is there to supervise. Like you said, it's pretty straightforward (especially if you don't care about your paint... otherwise it's still straightforward but you need to be careful w/ the heat gun and very patient to make sure the paint doesn't crack). The problem is that if someone doesn't know what they're doing and gets a little aggressive with the tool, the roller can be damaged by the fender lip (in addition to a crappy looking fender), and I'd hate to see sybir's tool get marred when he's been so cool about helping the club out by loaning it to so many folks.

As far as club donations, people can always hit us up via paypal at "paypal@seccs.org". And thanks to Cody and Aaron for setting this up, and thanks to anyone that donates!

moose 2009-06-05 04:18 PM

I have experience so I can supervise.
Cody, if there is a good number of people (5 or more), we can have it at my place which is kinda central for Reno, even though you live in Stead.
Let me know.

cody 2009-06-05 04:38 PM

Awesome, Mike, thanks. Let's see how it goes. If we have a large enough demand, maybe we could do one day at my place and one at yours.

BTW, I probably won't be near a computer from now until Sunday night. Peace!

Kevin M 2009-06-05 04:42 PM

I'll try to make it. I don't have any vehicles that are at less than the full 37 pieces of flare, but I can stand there and say "slow down, go slower, you're doing it w0rng!" as well as anybody. :)

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-05 05:43 PM

I will go if I can get my trans. fixed by then.

cody 2009-06-07 05:27 PM

Alright, Moose, do you need your fenders rolled or are you just volunteering to supervise?

cody 2009-06-07 05:48 PM

Oh, does anyone have any 17X8 wheels with 245/40/17's or other 245 width tires I can test fit one or two of after I roll mine? :)

I will be there to supervise. I might roll my rears a little more so I will bring $20 just in case though.

moose 2009-06-07 05:52 PM

double post.

Cool, first post updated. We already have 4 people on the list.

Mary, please confirm you can make it on Sunday.

And cash is fine if you don't have Paypal. I'll just pocket it and paypal it to SECCS, myself.

youloze 2009-06-07 06:25 PM

In, put me as #5 on the list please :)

Thanks Cody

I could probably help you out. 17 x 8.5's too big?

cody 2009-06-07 06:49 PM

If they have 245's, that should be a great test. What tires? :)

Edit: and what offset are the wheels? With all the camber I run, they may rub on the struts. It'd be fun to try though.

You're in, youloze.

MattR 2009-06-07 06:51 PM

They are 245-40-17 Yoko Advan A048. Cooked well-done.

SpamMan 2009-06-08 03:31 PM

Me... i want in.. thanks cody..

cody 2009-06-08 03:51 PM

Added you to the list, Tommy! :)

Thanks bratha...:D

If im still at work fli will drive my car to your house...

wildfirefli 2009-06-09 12:25 PM

um. yeah sunday after work for me. Mine don't need to be rolled and I'm beyond broke so. I'll be sportin the WRBSPAMCAR

cody 2009-06-09 12:46 PM

Okay, I'll pull you from the list then, Mare. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Does anyone have any spacers I could use with Matt's wheels. They're pretty much guaranteed to rub my stock sized struts considering the high offset and all the neg. camber I run. Or does anyone have any other wheels with 245 wide tires I could quickly test fit? I just don't want to role any further than necessary and I don't want to order tires that I can't fit before next season.

Also, if you have extra jackstands, maybe bring them just in case. I have 4 but the two I use in front are very tall and the two I use in the rear are very old. They work though so no biggie.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-09 12:58 PM

Just get some washers from HF.

+1

A few stacks of fender washers will be enough to offset the wheel and torque it down enough to check wheel clearance... just don't drive on 'em!

+1 it would be way noisy. If your going to drive on them you will need to get some rubber garden hose washers to stick in there too. Then obviously you would be bumped to garden class in auto-x.

cody 2009-06-09 01:13 PM

Yah, so anyway, if anyone has any wheel spacers, please let me know.

Dean 2009-06-09 02:39 PM

I have 255s on RPF1s you could try as well as 10mm spacers.

cody 2009-06-09 02:45 PM

I think the 255's would be really pushing it (assuming they section width of those tires is wider than Matt's), but I'd love to borrow the 10mm spacers. :)

Dean 2009-06-09 02:53 PM

They are under the 255s on the car, but it is in the air in the garage, so easy to access. Come on by.

k-dogg39 2009-06-09 03:36 PM

If that doesn't work, I might be able to swing by with my RPF1's with 245's

wrxkidid 2009-06-09 03:59 PM

If you guys need more jackstands and someone is headed out there from southtown you are welcome to borrow mine

Do you happen to know their offset? Those (with or without spacers depending on offset) would probably more closely match what I want to run if you don't mind making the trip. :)

17x8, +45, probably ideal for what you are looking for ;)

cody 2009-06-09 04:20 PM

Oh yah, for sure, my wagon brother. :D

South town as in Galena/Damonte ranch? I could bring them up to (where are you guys doing it? I'm assuming north reno?) after I get off work at 3 if you need them.

wrxkidid 2009-06-09 08:04 PM

Yea i live off foothill road behind bishop manogue. I dunno if they need them, I also have a jack you guys are welcome to borrow. Or if your really lazy you could come use the rack at my house and avoid the whole jack/jackstands ordeal.

cody 2009-06-09 09:11 PM

My jackstands work fine with my car as long as I drive up on 2x4's and use a small 2x4 block on my jack, but if a car is much lower than mine, I can't guarantee my setup will work.

Robbie, the lift would probably make things easier. Should we have it at your place? Feel free to say no.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-06-09 11:21 PM

^That would be sweet.

wrxkidid 2009-06-10 12:00 AM

Your welcome to. what time/day and how many people. The garage is kinda mess I wont lie but im not worried about it, I just have to ok it with my mommy but there shouldn't be a problem.

cody 2009-06-10 08:01 AM

June 14th, Dude. I was thinking we might start around 9am.

A1337STI 2009-06-10 08:30 AM

I have spacers, in two sizes. 7mm and 3mm i think . I'll toss them in my car and we can meet up for lunch .

cody 2009-06-10 08:50 AM

Thanks Alex! :)

cody 2009-06-10 07:33 PM

Robbie, what'd Mommy say? :P

wrxkidid 2009-06-11 01:15 AM

I haven't talked to her yet I will talk to her tomorrow and let you know ASAP I am going to say YES as of now because I don't forsee a problem with it. The only rules I will post as per my dad is no alcohol is allowed to be consumed as he got mad about that last time, and no tabacco products inside the garage, out back I will allow it, but out of respect for my parents I would request it to not be present.

If it happens I am more than down to fire up the grill for lunch and cook up some burgers and dogs if someone or multiple people want to split it and make it a legit 'party' if you guys would like that.

Let me know so I can make sure the propane tank is full enough to do it. If you guys are lucky maybe I will grill up some of the fish my dad, bro and I caught in AK last summer. We go fishing up there every other year and I can cook up some mean salmon, halibut, rockfish or black cod.

cody 2009-06-11 08:21 AM

I'm game.

wrxkidid 2009-06-11 09:00 AM

So sunday, my house, 9 am. Maybe start a list of whos going to bring what for food? I got like 15 or 20 burgers at my house frozen ready to go so ill throw that in, I should even have buns as well.
We will need:
Maybe some bratwursts :)
Condiments toppings, cheese
Lettuce, tamotoes, onions cheese ect.
Drinks no beer this time :(
Chips/salsa

cody 2009-06-11 09:13 AM

Cool! I can bring condiments, cheese and some drinks (some gatorade and life water I got cheap at Smiths, but someone should bring water and soda too). I'll bring my small cooler and a roll of papertowles too.

Anyone have any time constraints? Maybe post up when you plan to show up. We can start with my car if nobody else wants to go first, whatever I'll be there all day.

moose 2009-06-11 09:55 AM

I can bring some sodas. And A big cooler if need be.

Also, I will be there all day as well.

cody 2009-06-11 10:43 AM

Awesome. People should post up if they plan on coming by to join in the festivities. Robbie, can you post up directions or your address and I'll update the first post?

MattR 2009-06-11 04:50 PM

Where is this place? I may swing by even if Cody doesn't want me to.

I was actually thinking it sounds like it's turning into a fun BBQ. Too bad I'll likely be out of town on Sunday.
