Anyone feel like making a Sacramento meet this weekend?
 
Do we have anything going on this weekend? Should we make a Sac run?

There's a Friday meet in Davis: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...threadid=44680 Might be a little hard to get to, plus it's even further than Sac.

And there's the standard Saturday Sac Meet... http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...654#post390654

And if you guys are interested, there is some sort of Thunderhill thing going on all day on Saturday. S-Squared is going, and dragging along some cronies (and anyone else is of course free to show up).

You know, I really don't know where T-Hill is! I've never been, how long's the drive from Reno?

I just map-quested it... looks like Drive to Sac (2hrs) then go N on I-5 for another hour, then 162 West.... like 3.5 hours! :x

If I go, someone better give me a ride on course! :lol:

Yup, halfway between Sac and Red Bluff/Redding.

EDIT: Woah, woah woah. Its only about 7 miles on hwy 162 if memory serves me.

:lol: I didn't mean my post to look like it was a 3.5hr drive on 162!! That's 3.5 hours *total* from Reno to T-Hill. About an hour and change more than just going to Sac.

I'm thinking there's gotta be a more "direct" route... like HWY 20 or something that cuts across east to west w/o dipping as far south as Sacramento... 'course it would probably take 4 or 5 hours to get there, but at least it would be a kick ass fun drive! :twisted:

I get it, 3.5 hours total. Yeah, thats about what mapquest said it would take me from South Lake too. I think I'm going. I still haven't decided yet.

I'm still working on a plan to get out there, but since my camber bolts didn't come in today, I may not have a car that I'll trust on a drive that long... if thet come in tomorrow, I can try to install 'em and align the car Friday to head out early Saturday, but it's all way up in the air for now.

If I do go, I'll bring your jacket sybir, and the XXL sweaters you guys ordered since we got them today! If I don't make it, we'll ship everything out to ya'll Monday.

What are the camber bolts for? I thought the top plates on your struts were already camber adjustable?

Yeah, 'cept when you don't have the stock camber bolts in the front, the tires tend to wobble between 0 and -1.5 deg of camber. The last place that did my alignment stripped out a camber bolt and just left it in there, now that I took it out during the installation of my coilovers, I was forced to put some spare non-camber bolts in the front, and the camber is now dynamic in a *real* bad way. :lol: Basically I keep off the freeway and try not to drive far, so a trip to Willows is not happening unless I get some bolts installed tonight.

Which reminds me, time to call the place I ordered 'em from and find out where the hell they are! Otherwise I may be begging for a ride to Carson City to pick some up from the dealer down there.

It's an oval shaped bolt, turn it and the spindle tips in and out.

The two holes right by M13001 fit in the slot in the strut, and are where the strut is connected to the hub assembly.

Huh, crazy. The spindle/strut assembly on the Mustang is pretty much identical, except it uses normal round bolts. The lower mounting hole fits the lower bolt snug, but the upper mount hole is larger diameter than the upper bolt by maybe a couple of millimeters, so there's some slop when the bolts are loose. This lets you adjust the spindle angle relative to the strut when it's loose. There's no problem with the slop though, you just get the spindle at the angle you want and then torque down the bolts - it's a ridiculously high torque, like 150ft*lbs or something like that IIRC, so the clamping load between the strut tabs & the spindle keeps it from moving.

Same deal as mine, 'cept the bolts are camber bolts... and even w/ the required 162ftlbs it still moves. Go figure.

That meet was awesome! Kevin, I can't beleive how much grip those S-03's have, even when worn to hell! :lol: I'm definately going to have to start going to track events myself... and I'm rethinking my plans of a small turbo for autoX... I'll probably want something a little bigger for track speed. :twisted:

Since I was out at Scott's I just hit 50 East to Placerville, then 49 to Auburn (:twisted:), then 80 to Reno. I love 49... even if it was foggy and I had to chase some tard in a little custom pickup that thought he was faster than me. :lol:

Heh, they are a lot more worn now than when I started... I just got those in November, or maybe Late October. But, I knew I was being really hard on them, I just didn't care. :P If I don't get some R compounds, I'll definitely need new ones after Buttonwillow, maybe even before.

Yeah, no drift for me (no matter how hard I tried on the track!) although I wanted to try. I ended up running grip only because I found out I couldn't switch during the middle of the day like I had planned. Here are some of my thoughts from the day:

My limits as a driver are getting close to the limits of my car. Finally.

I'm a lot faster than the people who were in my group. There is no excuse for a stock motor RS passing Evos and 350Zs.

Making the tires sing for 2/3 of a lap is fun, but expensive. My right front is down to 4/32. Time to remount them backwards!

I now know what "neutral handling car" means.

I hate Minis.

I look like a dork when I know a camera is on me.

I still look like a dork when I don't know it's on me.

That white RS belonged to an instructor, and was almost stock, no turbo.

I hate Minis.

I'm ready for a turbo.

I hate Minis.

Because some jerk with a Cooper S wouldn't let me by. Rode his bumper for 7 laps before he went into the pits. We were only running the east loop, turns 1-7. I was faster on 1-6, but his car was a bit faster on the straight and I couldn't pass him out of 7. He refused to let me by, even though I would have lost him after 3 turns.

I guess there are two things you could have done about it - go off to the hot pits for about 30 seconds till he's at turn 3, then get back on; or, go talk to him or his instructor (assuming he had one) after the session and remind him about his rearview mirror.
Assuming you paid money for this track day, its not worth staying annoyed and not learning while you're on his tail. 'Course with that short track, you might've caught him again in a few laps, who knows?

Exactly- I would have caught him too soon. Lap times for me were in the high 1:20s. And I did get a little learning from it- I can follow real close at speed and compensate for changes in following distance. Also, my instructor went and bent his ear after the session, so I didn't want to start issues by talking to him myself.
