Driving for enjoyment just died!

Word on the street is that gas prices will be over 5 dollars a gallon by tommorrow, in Nevada.

My suggestion, gas your car now, and buy a bus pass.

On another note I just bought a red 1987 VW Scirocco 16V 5spd, it gets good gas mileage.

sperry 2005-09-01 09:42 AM

Actually, if everyoe runs out and buys gas because we think the price is gonna get jacked up... not only will they jack it up early, but we'll also run outta gas. Just buy gas when you're around 25% to 50% full. Don't wait till you're totally empty in case we do run out and you have to stretch for a few days.

I wonder if it's gonna cost me more in gas to run Seca than the $550 entry fee? At this rate, I'm just gonna start running 100 octane... it'll be cheaper.

It's already $6/gal some places in the south, and they've been running out of supplies. I think they're more directly affected by the shutdowns at all the Gulf refineries.

Our oil is mostly refined in the Bay Area IIRC. Oil comes in via tanker, gas goes out via pipeline.

M3n2c3 2005-09-01 11:37 AM

Well, I had to gas my wife's Eagle up anyway. . . :|

$5/gal sounds a little high, though, even for Nevada - I was checking out CNN.com, and the national average right now is about $3, and they list most places in the south and on the east coast as running $3-$4, with random bastards charging up to $6. And that's with a couple of major pipelines down. I guess we'll find out though. . .

If prices do shoot up, I may have to skip the Lovelock Solo2

You know, I get this sick feeling we'll be saying that a lot pretty soon :(

Costco was a zoo at lunch(11:30). 4 car wait when I got there 8+ by the time I left. $3.05/gal. for 91. Looking at others as I drove around, 91 runs all the way up to $329 on Wells & I80 Shell and Chevron. 76 in my neighborbood is only $3.15

tysonK 2005-09-01 01:13 PM

Did you actually wait in line for gas Dean? Fuck that!

Costco often has a line that is a couple deep, but it goes quick. I probably waited a total of 3-4 minutes to pull up to a pump. Other places I drove past with decent prices looked busy as well. The gougers were fairly empty.

yah but non of those place are 3000 miles coast to coast..........

that makes a big difference when you live in a country that you only need to drive 10 miles a day to get everywhere. I drive 12 miles just to get to anything, making a night out a 70 mile round trip

doubleurx 2005-09-01 01:54 PM

$3.29 for super in Truckee.......that's the cheapest up here. Most of the other stations are at $3.39.

Scott: Laguna Seca $550 + 3 tanks at the track and 1 for commute at $5/gal? That is approx. 56 gal......................o who cares! it's Laguna you are gonna have a fricken blast. I am very jealous!

 I'm looking at about 8 to 10 tanks of gas... 1 there, 3 or 4 a day for 2 days, and 1 back. Hell w/ the 2.0L I was going through about 1/2 to 2/3 tank in 30 minutes on track.

So, I'm figuring 14 gal * $5 * 8 refills = $560. I need a gas sponsor!

When I left AU in July 03 we were paying about $AUD1.10 a litre, or $AUD4.16 a gallon. I can't remember what the exchange rate was back then but at today's rate, that is about $US3.16 a gallon. So quit yer bitchin!! :P

doubleurx 2005-09-01 02:34 PM

All this talk made me go fill up the car. From this morning $3.29, just now $3.45! The station attendant said $4.00 easy by tomorrow.

MikeK 2005-09-01 02:39 PM

On a mildly related note, google search is the best thing evAr ... this search works perfectly:

1.10 AUD per litre in USD per gallon

It even recognized the correct spelling of litre! :D

skimonkey30 2005-09-01 03:08 PM

Its still 3.11 at chevron down here in Natomas

but I looked across the street and saw that safeway had just changed their premium price to 3.35 a gallon

Man I'm fucked. :( The $300/month paycut I took by buying the van is starting to look like $5-600 or more.

Can you say Trunk Rack? Whatever it is that you haul, you need to make it fit in/on the Miata! Even if you buy a hitch and one of those mini trailers from Harbor Freight.

Dean 2005-09-01 03:24 PM

So who's riding their bicycle to the meet tonight? :)
