Pleasant Valley fire, east of 395

Here we go again. Fiercely windy downtown, I can't imagine what it's like at the fire site.

zpeed 2004-08-25 01:36 PM

What cause that fire? I heard that couple house is burned. I can see smoke all the way to my office in sparks.

ArthurS 2004-08-25 02:03 PM

Thats just scary. How did this one happen?

Nick Koan 2004-08-25 02:09 PM

Yeah, the smoke is pretty thick here in the south.

sperry 2004-08-25 02:41 PM

It's gone from 40 acres to 500 in less than 2 hours, and it's about a mile or two south of my house, and just across the valley from Khail's place (unless he's moved in the last year or so).

The "Andrew Fire":

I was scheduled to go look at a house down there after work today... probably not going to happen.

No, probably not. I tried to go up Mt. Rose Hwy today and S. Virginia/395 was backed up to about Damonte Ranch (at 2:30ish)

Yeah, that's because 395 is closed at Mt. Rose Hwy except for residents that are trying to get in to evacuate their pets/belonings.

There are gonna burn down this whole damn place before the end of summer. On the bright side that house might get A LOT cheaper soon Scott.

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire...

Kevin M 2004-08-25 05:02 PM

We don't need no water...

This fire was allegedly started by someone shooting a firearm in the area. He/she reportedly came forward with this information.

Here are a few pics I shot while driving down 431 this afternoon.

I've moved since, but my old roommates say it's getting pretty close, within a couple of miles. They haven't been told to evacuate as far as I know, but they are packing and gettin ready if it becomes necessary.

sybir 2004-08-26 05:03 AM

I just got a Fuji S602 like Scott's for $250 on ebay, looks brand new.

Cameras are cheap if you don't need to go bleeding-edge.

sperry 2004-08-26 09:19 AM

As of last night the fire burned 4000 acres, and was only 10% contained. But this morning, I couldn't see any smoke from the area, so I'm guessing it's pretty well under control.

ArthurS 2004-08-26 09:53 AM

Any idea of how many homes got damaged?

dknv 2004-08-26 10:00 AM

This morning, I heard 8. I heard most were in a cul-de-sac. Can you imagine? Yours & all your neighbors' homes burned down. A real shame.
Also a good reminder, that each one of us should have some sort of a fire evacuation plan, so we wouldn't have to try to figure it out in the heat of the moment.

ArthurS 2004-08-26 10:35 AM

I already figured mine out.

If a fire starts....run like hell. Don't try and save anything (unless its a pet, roommate, etc...) since its all covered by insurance.

sperry 2004-08-26 11:05 AM

I only have one thing that's irreplaceable... data. I really should back up all my hard drives onto DVD or something and archive 'em off site... like in my office or something. Everything else I have is either a material object, or documents that would be a bitch to replace, but not impossible. All I know is, I'd be very difficult to re-paint all the artwork I've done in Photoshop, or all the projects I did at Cal Poly, etc.

Well the land he was shooting on was an okay place to be shooting as in Legal..if it had just been trees and what not that burned then don't expect them to be charged but all the homes that it destroyed you could expect to see some kind of charge...the fire bosses that we had out here when it was going on are predicting charges of some kind...but really they were shooting legal and it was an accidental fire. Which they did report and confess to.

ScottyS 2004-08-27 10:55 AM

What I'd like to know is the exact source of ignition. The actual shooting? The Reno Gazette Urinal won't say.......but they like the fact that the "perp" was a target shooter....
