Lunch time boredom!

Someone make that into a magnet. Or not. It's not like I'm going to be out to an event soon. :(

That was only the first wave. By the end of the season, there might be more magnet sticker area on most of our cars than paint showing.

At least, that's what your car is secretly hoping. :P

Kevin M 2013-06-18 02:07 PM

I already abandoned my paint schemes in favor of carpet bombing it with magnets.

Took the WRX out to auto-x with the local Fox Valley club yesterday. Got a much better feel for the limits of the car.

Turn in is fairly good, moderate understeer through the middle of most corners, have to be patient getting on the throttle if you don't want it to turn into heavy understeer exiting. Trailbraking fairly aggressively just makes it go faster. Body pitch & roll are noticeable but not excessive & distracting. Lots of heat/pressure gain in the front tires & chalking predictably showed rolling over onto the sidewalls, could definitely use more front camber for optimal grip. No complaints about the OE tires, they seem fairly sticky & held up ok once I added some air. Brake feel is ok but not fantastic; initial bite in that first inch or so of pedal travel is lacking but improves with heat. Once the brakes are hot the pedal is firmer and it decels pretty hard, no fade noticeable after five 90sec long runs with hard use. ABS performs well, was hitting it before most corners and it just helps slow you down harder. What's slightly distracting (not necessarily bad) is that pedal feel can change depending on what you're doing with the car on entry; I think it was probably ESC intervention. I turned off ESC for a run and it feels like a different car near the limits, not necessarily for the better either (I was a second slower that run). ABS/EBD/ESC system seems well integrated and doing what it should do instead of artificially holding you back.

They also don't seem to make a big distinction between solo 1 & 2 up here; this 'autocross' was on an overgrown outdoor shifter kart track that was pretty damned fast.. lots of elevation change, off camber turns.. tons o' fun. I'm surprised they let some of the novice drivers on the track frankly, if you screwed up in the wrong place you'd end up in the fence or in a building. Safety isn't as much of a priority up here in general though I've noticed.

Sounds like an awesome venue, although, must not be any affiliation with SCCA...sounds like our old airport events in the desert. Pretty cool way to get to know your car though.

That was my 1st time out doing anything with a car, other than going to work and what not. Fun time, but damn were my times slow.

If we go to 14 drops I can still win PAX!

MikeK 2013-08-06 09:25 AM

In other news, looking over the results for the season, has "Des Toups" found the new pax cheater car? He/she showed up 4 times and won pax 3 of them

It seems like the BRZ/FRS could be that new car. Plus he is a fast driver.

Congrats to the Paxmaster for locking it up again. Cheater.:rolleyes: :P

I am wondering though, any reason the PAX championship shows 3 drops and the Class championship only shows 2?

Yup just did. Oops.

Debbie drove the FR-S on Sunday, I'd liek to hear her take on it. Dez is a great driver, but I can see that car having a ton of potential, even at this altitude.

k-dogg39 2013-08-06 12:51 PM

I talked to her briefly about it, and she said she really liked driving it.

cody 2013-08-28 09:34 AM

I got 8th out of 90 in raw by cheating on Saturday. Fortunately for me, two in the dirt was not a DNF.

Nice job taking the shortcut there cheater.

I think it shaved about 1.5 seconds off. I had been downshifting to 1st and pivoting on my first 6 runs. Runs 7 and 8 were a lot faster with this "technique".

Downshifting to 1st is almost never faster for me.

MattR 2013-08-28 12:01 PM

I love the use of the dirt, well done.

Was it you that gave me shit for doing the same thing in GT4 years ago when we were posting our best laps?

Answer: yep.
