Anyone want to get some hats made?

My Dad's brother's 16 yr old son Alex got diagnosed w/ a tumor about 2 weeks ago. I guess it's in his chest cavity and pushes up on his lungs. :( He just started chemotherapy, so he's feeling pretty sick.

My Dad suggested that I find him a cool hat from one of the racing teams or shops I've come into contact with through the whole Subaru scene. I thought it would be cool if we could get some SECCS hats made, but only if there's enough of a demand from the rest of the club. I know I wear a hat all the time, and would prolly pick up a few SECCS hats for myself, plus one or two for my family and one for Alex. Anyone else interested in getting some hats made?

Matt, does your silk-screening contact have the ability to embroider hats? How many would we have to get made for it to be cost effective? I'd really like a black or dark blue hat with a simple SECCS logo embroidered on the front, and "Subaru Enthusiasts Car Club of the Sierras" on the back. One of those "one size fits all" flex-fit type hats (like that Maier Racing hat Austin brought me, if you remember it).

I was also trying to come up with something cool to do for Alex... I was thinking an XMod with a bunch of mods might be cool, since it's something you can play with even when you're outta energy. Anyone have an idea along those lines?

STIwish 2004-01-24 08:01 PM

Im totally down, as long as we can get very large flex fits....

ArthurS 2004-01-24 08:14 PM

Definatly down for some hats. Is it possible for some visor's? I am not much of a hat fan, but either way will work.

STIwish 2004-01-24 08:24 PM

Gonna turn it upside down and be a down homie?

Nick Koan 2004-01-24 09:38 PM

I'd be down. My one Subaru of Santa Cruz hat is getting quite, umm.... lucky (dirty). And since I refuse to wash it, I think a new one is in order :D

Double plus that it goes to a good cause.

Oh, and if you find a good deal, let Nate@S-Squared know. I know he's been wanting to make some S-Squared hats, but the only thing he could find was about $35 per hat (on small volume orders).

I'm sorry to hear that about Alex; I wish him the best in his fight ahead. :x

I'd be down for a hat, esp. a simple black one like you're thinking about.

I'm sure if we make hats, they will be bought a scale similar to the Hoodies.

If he's 16 and into cars maybe pick up a couple cool car DVD's to enjoy whiles he's getting better.(The Cannonball Run, The French Connection).

NstyNik 2006-10-10 01:38 PM

is there still hats and hoodies available for purchase? Just joined (10/10/06) and was curious as to if they are still being made.

MattR 2006-10-10 01:44 PM

Nothing available right now, but we usually put something together for the winter.

Ezdno 2006-10-10 01:46 PM

I wear a hat anytime I am not working, I probably have at least a dozen or so just waiting in hat limbo for me to choose them when I open the closet. So I would like a hat as well.

Our baseball league just had an embroidery disk made for our league hats custom 5 or 6 color thread, semi raised. If your silk screen person can't do embroidery.

I'm down.

Man, this is an old thread!

Chances are this year's hoodies will be just another run of last years design, probably with new colors, like blue or gray hoodies instead of red. I'll put up a "2006 Hoodies" thread once things get rolling. Last year's 22b tech drawing was really popular, and I'm still getting somone every few months from other clubs asking if we're selling them still.

As far as hats... we did SRIC hats and they were a huge flop. Hardly anyone bought them, and no one really liked 'em that did buy 'em. I'd rather not do that again, since hats are actually pretty expensive... like around $16/ea *cost*, IIRC.

As far as my cousin Alex (since I never updated this thread...) he beat the cancer w/ chemo, but all the medication and radiation treatment jacked up his immune system leaving him with bone issues, esp. in his hips. So it's been a long time recovering, but he's getting by and has been able to go to college. It's a pretty shitty thing for a kid to have to deal w/, but he's got a pretty good attitude, and will get by.

MPREZIV 2006-10-10 02:10 PM

It's good to hear that he's at least recovering. Man, that's tough.

Read the thread dude... it's like 3 years old. My cousin's fine, and the hats ended up sucking.

As soon as I:

Stop working 12 hour days in preperation for the G2E Gaming Show
Go to Las Vegas for a week to attend said Gaming Show
Deal with a lawsuit
Move into a new house
Fix my SVX's tranny
Fix my WRX's fender and oil breather system
and
Prevent my GF from breaking up with me since I'm so busy

...I'll get right on it, assuming Pat's not as busy as I am.

Ezdno 2006-10-13 08:33 AM

Oh hell you have plenty of time..... :P If you threw in a kidney transplant I would give it too ya.
