F1 Season 2014!
Time to start the new thread... the silly season is upon us!
It looks like McLaren and Ferrari shooting themselves in the foot by not keeping Perez / hiring Hulkenberg might mean I'm going to be a Force India fan for 2014, since there are rumors both those guys ending up over there. http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/3...ll-stay-in-f1/ Those are two fantastic young drivers, each capable of winning a world championship if given a competitive car. And here's to hoping Williams returns to being a top-tier team with the new rules... I'd love for Massa to have one more shot at a championship in the next few seasons. I'm still gutted about 2008... Massa deserves one more shot, but if Ferrari couldn't build a car that could match the Red Bull over the last 4 years, I don't know who can. :( |
Again, I don't understand the McLaren direction. It seems Perez performed well in a sub-par car, it's likely more about money than his performance.
For Massa's sake, I'm hoping the talented engineers at Williams can pull it together for 2014... |

Something weird went down at McLaren... I don't think Perez is getting fired over his performance... there must be some nonsense going on where Perez's sponsors are at odds with one of McLaren's other sponsors or something. |
I read somewhere (pure speculation) that it could have been because Mexico was dropped from the 2014 calendar, so now Telmex doesn't want to uphold their sponsorship deal.

There are several driver's in the 2013 championship that I would just love to see behind the wheel of a top team chassis, included would be Hulk, Di Resta and Bottas.... |
I'm guessing they can get Magnussen at rock bottom prices, since he is already part of their new driver program.
This is assuming that for some reason McLaren has virtually no budget for their second driver right now, which seems a little hard to believe. |

This could be the most gimicky and stupid rule change I've heard of....Double points for the finale?
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin.../12/15339.html How does that make any sense...not impressed. I wish they would have given points for Pole, or most laps ahead of this. (Although that wouldn't help the percieved issues either) Scott, not sure how that will work in Fantasy F1....but you can be sure I'm saving a Vettel pick for the season -ender... |
Also this....

Permanent numbers? Hello Nathcar... |
None of that retardation is as bad as the trackside sprinklers Bernie wanted.
Double points shouldn't be terribly hard in the FF1 code... I already had to implement 1/2 points for that one shortened race a few years back. |
At least the sprinklers never happened.

Well, Perez and Hulkenberg are at Force India... which means they just might be a spoiler if their car is up to snuff with the new rules. They certainly have a pretty talented lineup.
And it looks like Sutil is in at Sauber, which is good for Sutil but not great... I think he's probably a more competitive driver than the 2014 Sauber car will be. As of today, there appear to be just 4 open seats on the grid: one at Sauber alongside Sutil, one with Marussa next to Bianchi, and both seats at Caterham. http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-line-u...rmula-1-teams/ Ferrari seems to have the edge by a lot over everyone else with Alonso and Raikkonen, but both those guys have seemed to have problems with Ferrari (or Ferrari has had problems with them, more accurately), and I don't know that they'll get along with each other well, especially if they're both winning. The worst thing for Ferrari may be if they have a very competitive car leading to their teammates in-fighting to the detriment of both of them. 'Course, all Ferrari likely cares about is the Constructor's Championship... which they better win in 2014, because I highly doubt both or even one of those guys will be at Ferrari in 2015. |
Not exactly related to next season, but Schumacher is in the hospital in a coma after a skiing accident. Critical condition.

And Ron Dennis staged a "internal coup".

Maybe a US based F1 team could become reality again? Gene Haas has the funding, I think it would be a cool opportunity...

I'm curious as to what happened in 07 between Alonso, and Ron Dennis. Can someone fill me in. |

The black looks good.

The the color scheme is nice.
But, now here is what everyone is waiting for. Williams releases some "pics" of their 2014 car, with the new nose for the new regs. http://adamcooperf1.files.wordpress....liams-fw37.jpg It's certainly different than last years. |
Moar noses:
Lotus goes a different route http://adamcooperf1.files.wordpress....us-oh-dear.png http://adamcooperf1.files.wordpress....lotus-hmmm.png Interesting that the 'horns' aren't completely symmetrical. McLaren is a little more like Williams, but a little prettier http://adamcooperf1.files.wordpress....n-anteater.jpg And a quick photoshop job https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BewfrEdCYAAYOBx.jpg:large |
 at the photoshop
