Who uses BitTorrent?
Out of curiousity, how many of you guys use BT? Which client do you use? I have been using Azureus and I love it, hella better than the 'official' client. I average probably a gig or so of uploads a day, but I can almost always find what I want.

I use poisoned

Um...what are both of those programs? Call me a n00b when it comes to certain software if you will, but I haven't heard of them before.
|
BitTorrent is kind of like a new age Kazaa or Napster... but its 10x better and with almost no chance of it ever getting shut down or regulated. Azareus is the client I use to open torrent files, and sites that have to find torrent files mainly include suprnova.org ... is the shizel.

I use BT occasionally to download files and game demos and stuff. I don't usually surf around to download stuff for fun though.
Still rocks the socks off of any other P2P software. I've always hate P2P, and this is probably the first one I really use, even if I don't use it often. |

One thing to watch out for... a lot of cable companies have been cracking down on high bandwdith users with a clause in their contract's fine print that says they can get you for "excessive use", even though they don't bother to define "exessive". So if you're using cable watchout! DSL on the other hand has been much cooler regarding the high bandwidth users, since they have dedicated bandwidth from each user to the central office. |
I have over 4gigs of music video's if your woundering how its posible Tyson.....I almost couldn't believe it myself but I check and at 50M per video it adds up fast. 8)
hopefully now I can make a new DVD or a few for crusin with my muzac  |
If they ever try to bust me for bandwidth usage, I'll just tell them I'm sharing amateur porn with my "friends." No copyrights there.

Basically it boils down to this: the cable companies build a loop that coveres say one neighborhood. The built it expecting a certain total bandwidth usage, which is a number significantly lower than the sum of all the offered bandwidth for the nodes on that branch. So when people acually use all the bandwidth they were promised, the loop can't handle all the traffic, so they go after the people that consistantly use lots of bandwidth, figuring they're the p2p filesharers that don't want any trouble, even though it pretty much means the cable company is breaching their contract. :x |
Actually, im not even sending movies.. heh, a full on 100+ gigs of mp3s takes care of it for me.
Edit: not a terabyte without my secondary server which isnt hooked up currently. |
how many songs is 100 gigs of mp3?
Can you get stuff like this in mp3: Cedric Im Brooks "Light of Saba" Campfire Songs "Campfire Songs" Erase Errata "At Crystal Palace" Manitoba "Up In Flames" Colder "Again" The Books "The Lemon of Pink" Sun Kil Moon "Ghosts of the Great Highway" Or these movies: That Obscure Object of Desire - Criterion Collection (1977) Breathless - (1961) L'Avventura - Criterion Collection (1961) Hiroshima Mon Amour - Criterion Collection (1960) Cause if you can get this stuff I'm signing up. |
