....of this hood

Any ideas or coments

MattR 2004-02-04 11:17 AM

I think it's really sweet looking, but I would only run a hood like that if a had a body kit

ArthurS 2004-02-04 11:23 AM

I dig it Mike.

AtomicLabMonkey 2004-02-04 11:34 AM

Rice.

mebbe its my imagination, but the side mirrors look tiny in comparison to the rest of the body...

MikeSTI 2004-02-04 12:45 PM

Debbie: the mirrors on the car are carbon fiber also (and are very small)

sperry & AtomicLabMonkey: are you saying its rice "rice" or could you see it better if you knew I would paint it to match the rest of the car? and also do something about the grills?

I think its pretty damn tight... Id rock it.

ZER026D 2004-02-04 01:34 PM

That is a sick ass hood I have all ready been in contact with Seibon they seen easy to do business with. :D

Kevin M 2004-02-04 02:02 PM

looks like someone had one set of 22b vents and one leftover... so they split it between both sides...

Well speaking for myself, things it's got going against it are:

1) Unpainted C/F
2) Decals all over it
3) Needless vents/grilles all over it
4) There is no number 4.

Having it painted might help. I actually like the way the front bodywork looks on that car, and the air dam looks like it would actually be functional on track... if it weren't for the enormous hole cut in the front of it.

STIwish 2004-02-04 02:21 PM

Its all about unpainted CF.

1) Paint is heavy ( I'd want it painted too)
2) It's a show car... hell even race cars are covered in decals. Decals = money at that level... i.e. this isn't just some dude's ride
3) Turbo motor = retarded hot. Those grills/holes used to be *stock* on the '98-'01 body style, albeit not so big... check out a rally car's hood!

And what "enormous" hole are you talking about? The one that cools the radiator, or the ones for the brake ducting? :P

All that said. It's still rice. Pay $2000 for a C/F hood that's not hardly lighter than the stock aluminum hood is a waste. You want a non rice hood with the above advantages, then get a sawsall and cut some heat evacuation vents in the stocker. That's not rice.

MattR 2004-02-04 02:22 PM

Under all that is a Silver STi...Hmmmm? I think it looks sweet, I like the front lip, very BTCC

1. I would paint it for sure....atleast after a few months
2. No decals required for easy install 8)
3. Yes, thier are more vents than needed but with a short ram intake on the passanger side air flow should be great hehe cold short ram :D
4. I just don't know how to respond

and thx for the concerns :D

Umm, the enormous one in the front. I would seriously doubt the car needs that much lower opening area for the radiator, it looks way bigger than the stock WRX opening. Your car barely breaks a sweat in 105*+ temperatures too with the stock front bodywork. The bigger that hole is, the less downforce the front will have... course, they could put a wire grill over it and then you could just tape it up like they do in winston cup according to what weather you were running in.

It's only half as big as it looks. The top half of it is covered by a black plastic piece that's over the big ol' bumper required by US crash regulations. They just did a good job of making it hard to see on that car in the picture.

Oh and Prodrive *does* make that wire grill you're talking about, specifically for downforce:

Ahh, I see it now.

And those wire grilles are sweet!

well i like the rally hood also but who has it? and is that where you came up with the $2000 number becuase the one i'm looking at is atleast half that price.......just becuase its an after-market hood doesnt mean i'm trying to shave pounds off my car but maybe make it look more unique

AtomicLabMonkey 2004-02-04 03:59 PM

$1000 put into other parts will buy you a whole lot more speed than that hood will.

You just defined rice. :P

ZER026D 2004-02-04 04:32 PM

Then your wing is Scott cause were you saying that you have never gone over 120. I guess that wing is just there for looks I guess your part of the rice crew. I might have put stuff on my car to make it look better and I dont think its rice at all.

Yep. It's rice. I admitted it the day I put it on there. The best excuse I can come up with is that it should help reduce drag a bit. But then, so would a lip on the trunk.

You truck shaves quite a few pounds of your car Evan. So your trunk could be argued that it isn't rice.

If you spend say 2,000$ on a hood, then paint it causing the hood to weight slightly less then the stock, that could be considered rice.

As for Scott, I am shooting a guess out here, but I would assume that his new wing also weighs less then the stock wing, which is a weight benefit from the start. As for aerodynamics and that wing, I have no clue at what speed makes it a benefit.
