Its more then just Ailgnment

Well I took my car to Big-O yesterday for my ailgnment. Once it was up on the rack they came inside and got me out of my chair, never a good thing unless your ready to pay the bill, we went out and they showed me what was accully wronge........I guess I'll be the first STi to have to replace a lower control arm in Reno  must have hit the curb a little harder then I thought =P

is the repair coverable under warranty?

MikeSTI 2004-02-11 10:46 AM

you can see the streach marks on the contral arm and where the bolt had slide a little (and the ding in my rim) so I dont think it was defective just aluminum and cant handle rally'in thou peoples yards

I don't see how that's warranty work... insurance maybe.

Actually, Mike, if you order up an arm from www.subaruparts.com it'll prolly be cheaper than your deductible, and come sooner. We can install it ourselves... 2 hours, no problem. Assuming it's just the lower alu. control arm that needs to be replaced.

That is, if you're not getting it covered by your insurance.

Just thought I'd ask, since Subaru did turn my rotors for me under warranty. (Since I was probably being a 'woman driver' and resting on the brakes while I coasted down Hwy 50 or something. :? ) NOT!

lower contral arm and bushings is all that is damaged it being quoted at about 500 installed so i might just go that route price includes getting the 4 wheel alignment also part alone is about 300

I can get *two* alu control arms for $370! So one should be half that... the bushings are like $30. You should be able to do the whole repair for less than $300 including the alignment.

That why I have not gone for the STI a arms yet I have read to many storys about them bending and breaking. I remember watching a rally and there A arm broke shity for them I just know they are easy to break or bend.

:?: Lots of people don't go to the STi arms *because* they're so stiff! People are afraid if they hit something they'll damage the frame because the arm won't bend! Plus, I haven't seen many STi's in rally... most people are running WRX's because of the 2.0L displacement rules. You prolly saw a WRX break a control arm.

MikeSTI 2004-02-13 11:09 AM

Even what you need to know maybe is that the Control Arm was not meant to hit a curb a 60 mph some what sideways so as far as it being bent I would have expected it also it didnt break like a cast one might have it just streached so I feel its just a part of doing something stupid and now paying the price 8)

STIwish 2004-02-13 12:27 PM

Yeah, my WRX one bent when i hit the boulder sideways, I wish I remembered how fast I hit it, but it really wasnt that fast.
