Night Photos

Inspired by Dean's long exposure w/ flash pics from the last meet and my new mono-pod, I went to the top of th Silver Legacy parking garage and took some pics. It looks like I'll need a tripod, not a mono-pod for picture with exposures this long, since I got very few pics that weren't blurry as hell. Here are a few of the decent ones.

All these pics have color and contrast corrections to make them more vibrant, and to put some blue back into the car's paint... you'd be amazed how green *everything* looks up on the roof of the Legacy.

That last picture is friggin awsome!

I like #2.

A little fill flash to light the car a little better, and it would have been really awsome.

When using a monopod, you really have to become the other two legs. Tilt it a little towards you, and put a minute amount of weight on it. Elbows in, both palms firmly on the carmera, exhale, pause & shoot.

I have a couple tripods if you want to borrow one.

That's basically what I was doing... that or bracing the camera/monopod against something solid. It's still not easy when you're doing 3 second exposures. Take a look in the gallery, it's got all the photos I took... most are terrible.

A tripod w/ an adjustable gimbal, and using the 2 second delay on the shutter so I can be totally hands-off when the picture is taken will really help out. I'm thinking of hitting up Gordon's today and getting a tripod... with the discount card I've got, it's not too expensive.

Will do. Hopfully they have some left... I think I may have purchased the last one for Matt's mount on Sunday.

Not bad Scott. I need to get a tripod too at some point.

I just picked up one at Gordon's at lunch. Aluminum, 52" max height, 7.1 lbs.. not bad for $25! Cost less than my mono-pod!

Nice. All my mono and tripods are older and heavier, but cery sturdy.

My biggest problem is that all of them are only 3 segment, so they are fairly long to start with making them less easy to carry. Are yours 3 or 4 sections? Maybe I'll bring them tonight to compare...

3 segment with an adjustable height center post, so the leg sements don't have to be that long.

Scott and I really went crazy last night taking pictures from the time we bailed from C&C until we got politley asked to leave at 11:30. :D

Tons more going to the Gallery when we get a chance to dig through them, but here are 2...

I had just setup the last one when I saw the security guards walking our way, so I had to shoot quick...

Oops, I appear to have run over the Hypno Toad...

sybir 2004-03-23 05:11 PM

Scott, that first e-thug picture makes you look like you're about to cry.

Kevin M 2004-03-23 05:14 PM

Or crap.

Nick Koan 2004-03-23 05:14 PM

Or both

sperry 2004-03-23 05:18 PM

Yeah, that picture is killing me. It's ruining the little game I've got left after the dental hygientist thread!

I'm hoping it's just the hat pushing down on my forehead and the lighting from the long exposure or something... I don't look like that in person, do I?!

tysonK 2004-03-23 05:19 PM

that pic of your car front on is excellent Dean.

I thought in the first one he looks like he belongs in a Boy Band... Hat turned around with kind of the sheepish grin... Show it to your dental hyginist and see what she thinks...
