Reno Fernley Test & Tune go bye bye

It was bound to happen...

From Rich Cable...

All Racers: Please be advised that the road course is closed for construction effective Monday 4/5 through Thursday 4/8. We will be open for Test and Tune on Friday and of course this weekend.

On another note - To All Car Racers: We are requiring a competition license for anyone using the road course for Test and Tune (insurance liability issues). I'm updating my data base and need racers Competition License Number. Pls e-mail that to me richcable@fernleyhills.com

So, how many more classes to I need to take up there to get a real comp license?

Dean 2004-04-06 03:57 PM

I didn't really finish my thoughts because I had to go to a meeting...

The way I read this, we only get track time under the auspices of the "school" now.

This may not actually impact us much except it means only Fri. and Sat. on the weekends they are running it unless we make special arrangements.

Unfortunately, a comp license requires you to actually compete in door to door racing at least twice per year. To get a rookie, or provisional license, you must get "signed off" by somebody official in that sanctioning body. but then must compete in two events to get a true license.

Subject: Competition License Requirement - Clarification
Date: Tue, 6 Apr 2004 17:06:23 -0700

Sorry we weren't as clear as we could have been...

While our insurance policy requires that drivers have competition licenses in order to drive on the track for test & tune, there are several circumstances that are acceptable to the underwriters, such as:

Test & Tune the day before an exclusive club/group sanctioned event for club/group members

Completion of a "qualified" driving school program, i.e., certificates are the "equivalent" of a license

Students of The Next Level Driving school receive "Student Permits"

"Rookie" permits through various sanctioning bodies, such as NASA, SCCA, et al.

RFR Rookie Permits (call us for further information about our Rookie Program)

Note: Students and Rookies are not allowed to drive with racers on track at the same time.

Certain club memberships (Vintage car clubs) may provide insurance coverage for Test & Tune drivers

Competition licenses may be obtained at Reno-Fernley Raceway through The Next Level Driving School, by appointment only.

If you have completed a number of competition races with a club and have specific documentation, it may qualify. Just call and ask us.

We want all drivers to be able to come out to enjoy our facility. So if you don't have a license, don't be discouraged. We'll work with you to get you qualified.

If you have any further questions, please call "E.T." for clarification.

Thank you/Jackie

OK, sounds like status quo based on the later email. Sorry to scare everyone. Bet they got a bunch of emails, and had to send out the clarification...

Can you Clarify the Clarification for us?

so we will have a track school with the driving school?

But not be able to go out whenever we want after the school track time ends?

Dean 2004-04-06 07:36 PM

I am assuming the "Track Permit" we got last time is what they reffer to as an RFR Rookie permit.

Dean 2004-04-06 08:05 PM

RFR Rookie program from Rich even later tonight. Sounds like succesfull completion and sign off from the school qualifies....

Subject: Rookie Program - for drivers without competition licenses

Announcing a new program for drivers who want to drive on the roadcourse but don't have competition licenses...

THE ROOKIE PROGRAM

The Rookie Program requires drivers to take a "mini-course" on high performance driving before we can let them out on the roadcourse.

Drivers who have attended and completed qualified driving school programs are exempt, subject to proof of course completion.

Rookies will be permitted to drive on the road course on any test & tune day with certain restrictions.

Rookies are not permitted to drive on the track at the same time as racers.

Rookies are not permitted to drive at 100% of their car's capacity.

Rookies must demonstrate care and safety while driving. Reckless driving, spins or dropping wheels off the pavement may result in loss of driving privileges until they attend a formal driving class.

Rookies' access to the track is subject to the track supervisor's discretion.

Cost: $150 (includes track rental fee)

We strongly encourage rookies to participate in The Next Level Driving School to further improve their skills and learn proper driving techniques.

Any questions, call "E.T." AT 775 575-7217 OR email et@reno-fernleyraceway.com.

Kostamojen 2004-04-06 09:23 PM

Ok, that does look exactly like what you mentioned before.

tysonK 2004-04-06 10:15 PM

So it's $150 for Rookie Program and $195(what you and Scott and Matt paid right?) for Next Level Driving School?

Or

Just $150 or $195

I'm sure all this will be sorted out when we get closer to having a trackday/driving school for SECCS.
