National Tour at Atwater, this weekend!

I'm contemplating going to the National Tour Solo2 event this weekend at Castle AFB in Atwater, CA. Anyone want to go?

You should expect some real stiff competition as well as a really fast and long course. Good practice for the Divisional and Nationals!

Assuming my tires go on tomorrow, and there's nothing wrong with my steering rack, I'm gonna try to haul my ass out there, some company would be awesome, even if it just someone coming out with me to hang out or co-drive my car or something. Atwater is about 30 miles south of Modesto on HWY99.

It also looks like Gary Szabo from Vegas Region will be out there running his WRX in STX!

I might be interested in coming out and co-driving for one of the days... probably only one day though since I don't want to haul my car out there right now, and I've probably got plans here for the other day.

I just noticed, there's 321 registered people out of 325, we need to sign up NOW.

I may see you guys there, I've been contemplating going, knowing I don't have a competitive car. But the story I've heard is that finding a room in Merced is going to be troublesome (but if you don't mind camping there may be that option there).

This event is really cool too, because there will be a number of other great drivers there as well as coverage that usually makes it into 1 or more auto racing publications.

I'm going. Even thinking about taking Friday off to go test...

We need to find a room to share. I think Austin is going to try and make it out for a day... I've got him listed as my co-driver, but I'm not totally sure he can drive both days.

BTW: there's only 3 seats left in for the event... And Debbie and Dean aren't any of 'em! And tomorrow, the entry fee goes up!

Dean 2004-04-26 02:49 PM

I got my PayPal confirmation, but am not listed on the event...

dknv 2004-04-26 02:54 PM

I'm in there now.....
Dean, maybe because somebody else already has #42?

I am experiencing the very same...

Yeah, it looks like MyAutoEvents strikes again. That site has some issues. :x

sperry 2004-04-26 03:57 PM

BTW: If anyone needs a room, Super8 in Merced has rooms available for that weekend. Call 209.384.1303 for reservations.

I've got a 2 bed room reserved for Saturday night. I'm planning on going Reno to Sac Friday night, crashing in Sac, then leaving from there to Atwater Saturday morning.

My reg. came through.

If I can get the time off, I think I'll head down for the test runs on Fri. just to get the feel for the site, and National style courses. I don't know how it works, but I will try and scope out enough space for at least 4 cars.

Wanna bring the shade structure and the banner? I got 'em at my place.

I'll only be there for one day; probably Saturday. Does anyone know the run group order? What time do we need to be there for STX?

No idea. There is the possibility that STX doesn't even run one of the days, like they do at nationals... I have no clue. Anyone?

I'm still not going 8)

Sure you are, your name will be "Austin Dowdy" on Sunday. :P

AtomicLabMonkey 2004-04-28 11:02 AM

The National Tour event info on SCCA's website doesn't have any run/group information on it... these people need to get their shit together. The only thing it has is a schedule, which lists "Heat 1-5 competitions" on both days... that would seem to imply that all groups run both days? I think I'll call Mikey later on and see if he knows anything more...

Next time Patty's announing you'll hear:

"Number 49 NAS comes to the line. That's Rowdy Burns, back in the saddle after recovering from a head injury on the NASCAR circuit. Let's see if he can get the top time of the day without the benefit of 'matched perfect and staggered special' tires!"

You need to hitch a ride down there with Scott and drive the day I won't be there, so you can pay me half my entry fee.
