XBox Mod Chippin' y0!
Okay, so I'm thinking about going 1337 h4X0r on my XBox and getting a mod chip. I figure there's a few other people on here that might be interested in going down that road.
I haven't figured out much yet, but I'm doing research on www.xbox-scene.com trying to get myself out of the uber-n00b stage of understanding this thing. It looks like there's several versions of XBoxes out and severl choices for mod chips. In order to sucessfully mod an XBox, I think you need to buy the appropriate mod chip for your version XBox, a larger hard drive (but I don't know how large or what brands work, etc yet), and then you've got to download a new BIOS image. Only the BIOS image is illegal under the DMCA (although traditional "fair-use" laws mean a BIOS *should* be legal, Big-Brother's DMCA screws you), all the hardware is legal.
My roommate and my ex-roommate both modded their XBoxes, so I'm gonna lean on them for tips. If anyone wants to join me on this mission, let me know, and we can get our h4X0ring on! I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of those highly-detail-oriented deals where once I've done it and it works, I'm never going to want to do it again... like compiling and installing a custom Linux kernel. :x So if you're not in now, I probably won't want to help you in the future. :P
