I raced a Viper!

Ok before all you guys call BS for real I was sitting at a light downtown and what do I see coming up in my mirrors. Its a Viper thats dark blue or black with a white stripe he pulls up to the light and the light turns green he must have known I was going to hit it cause we both got on it at the same time. I was right with him in 1st when I shifted to 2nd he gained about a foot or two by the time I was going to shift to 3rd I was right with him again and when I went to 3rd he bitched out. I was starting to pull on him to I was so stoked that I could hang with a brand new Viper but I was pissed the guy gave up after around 60 I wanted to take him up to 80 or so.

hey don't worry about those vipers we need you to be owning some EVO's for us! 8) or at least some SRT-4's.

it's still a neon

Can I call BS yet?

If you "raced" a "brand new" Viper to 60 and hung with him... then he didn't notice you guys were racing. The Viper SRT-10's 0-60 is 3.9 seconds. I'll bet he was just cruising up to 60... cuz just cruising in that thing is a 6 sec 0-60. Besides other Vipers and possible the Z06 Vette, the only other street legal vehicles that can hang with the SRT-10 are performance street bikes. Even a crazy tricked out WRX w/ 450 hp to the wheels would have a tough time keeping up with a stock 500hp Viper.

ZER026D 2003-04-07 08:13 AM

Well I did and I know it so what ever that guy was trying to get on it. He could have launnched harder and spun his tires but he did not so your right he could be driving like a bitch but thats still fast with out spining the tires.[/i]

ArthurS 2003-04-07 08:52 AM

Was it the new SRT-10 (Which most are convertable or hard-top) or a 2002 or below Viper. Sounds like a GT-S from the color's.

dayofpain 2003-04-07 09:11 AM

hmmmmm, no offense...

I raced a viper at the illegals in sac when my car only ran 12's. we were up for the import drags on sacramento raceway. and decided to go looking for trouble.

first we raced 1/4 mile.
then we raced 1/2 mile.

with my 60-foot being a 1.6 it was obvious who won the 1/4 mile. but only by like a hood length. i was probably only ahead by 3 or 4 feet. when we passed the designated 1/4 mile point. keeping in mind he didnt even catch me till he hit 3rd. i was probably 6 cars on him. but not when he hit third.

but when we restarted for the 1/2 mile run. lets just say it wasnt pretty. he hit his four gear nice and hard. and i was a mere speck in the rearview.

as for the douchbags in reno? i could beat one in reverse. i watched the supposed fastest import in reno beat a hennesy viper 600 and the viper had a 10 car length head start. was possibly the lamest race i ever witnessed. all the viper did was burn his tires. so pathetic.

could he have beat a viper... sure.
was the driver capable. i doubt it... but still a worthy kill. good job E.

i wonder how many times some ass-clown in a honda has been sitting a light with me and i was minding my own buisness and then he takes off with rubber screaming. i bet he told all his friends he whoped my ass. how laughable. just something to think about.

Maybe I don't understand drag racing, but to me there seems to be two races going on: car vs. car and driver vs. driver.

In professional drag racing, cars car clasified, and everyone does all that they can while staying in their class. This results is, the cars are usually very equal, therefore emphasizing the driver vs. driver aspect.

However, on the street (where you shouldn't be racing anyway) and at open drag strips cars are basically unlimited, making the race very car vs. car oriented, i.e. who can take a certain platform and mod it out to be as fast as possible. To me these competitions are interesting from an engineering and car enthusiast standpoint. I like to see how different ways of going fast (say V10 RWD vs H4 turbo AWD) stack up against each other.

*Of course* a WRX with a skilled driver will beat a Viper if the driver of the Viper doesn't drive well, to the extreme I could beat a Viper on my mountain bike if he blew up the motor on the line, right? But in a car vs. car oriented setting, this doesn't mean the WRX is faster than the Viper. People seem to take pride that they "killed" some crazy fast car, when in fact they "killed" some crazy bad driver. Drivers being equal, for a WRX to beat a stock SRT-10, it's gonna take a crazy modified WRX.

I'd *love* to see a WRX get modded out to Viper performance levels, just beacuse the engineering needed to get it done is impressive. But I don't believe that a WRX beating a Viper, especially due to a bad Viper pilot, means that WRX's and Vipers are anywhere near the same class of car.

Looking for props for beating a bad driver doesn't count for much to me I guess. If the story was more like: "Well, I finally got my WRX pushing 30psi, and it dyno'd at 480hp to the wheels. So I went out to Fernly and took on a SRT-10, and beat him by a car length! We both had good launches, but my AWD tossed me in front and I was just able to hang on to the win, but man that Viper was coming stong." Now that's a story that earns my respect. That's a lot of hard work to tuning a car to run and beat a car that outclasses it in pretty much every way.

ArthurS 2003-04-07 09:54 AM

I just don't care to street-race. I don't need some massive ticket haunting me, or someone's death hanging over my head.

Yes I speed. Yea from time to time Ill toy around with *enter favorite sport car here* and have a little fun, but never to the point were it could endanger the passengers with me or with the other person. Its one thing to risk your own life, but risking others is whats bad.

And I am not saying you did, since you slowed down, just thought I would throw my unasked for opinion out there.

(Just read this sad article: http://www.thenownews.com/021203/opinion/021203op1.html )

Thats cool. I just felt bad after reading that article, so I had to post something. I do admit to speeding though. I do about 5-10 mph over on the freeway. Most of the time its 5 mph in the city. Never more then that though, can't afford a ticket.

Hey, you're the guy that was too fast for the strip w/o a cage!! LOL, I remember that story... Too bad the weight of the cage will prolly put you back into the 12's :x.

I find that the longer it's been since I've autocrossed, the faster I drive on the street.... I gotta keep racing to prevent speeding tickets!

ArthurS 2003-04-07 10:29 AM

dayofpain 2003-04-07 10:40 AM

ArthurS 2003-04-07 10:57 AM

Thats a sweet bike!!!

Isn't it one of the faster or fastest production bikes?

I really wanted a Honda CBR600 F4i, but I knew I would kill myself if I ever got one.

dayofpain 2003-04-07 11:01 AM
