Phew, it's just about 1am, and I'm finally back to post!
My summary of the trip:
Saturday around 10:30am me and Tyson and JC who didn't drive, left Reno for Sac. We hit up my sister's place so I could fix her laptop (and I've never seen such a virus riddled, busted-ass, POS evAr.... well except that hooker in Mexico, but that's another story...) I got done reinstalling windows for her around 3 or 4 pm. Then after some "extraneous" driving around Sac we hit up the Sac Hilton for a bit, then headed out to the Sac meet.
The Sac meet actually had a pretty decent turnout, I'd guess about 10 to 15 cars! I guess someone told them the Reno crew was coming! :P After Round Table for dinner we hit the over-crowded go-karts. Then back to Natomas to watch illegal DVDs at the house.
It got late, so Tyson headed off to crash at Nicole's and JC and I hit up my sister's place, due to the killer cats at the house. (6 cats between 3 guys.... if that doesn't put the 'anus' back in 'gayness' I don't know what does!)
So I guess Tyson was up at the ass-crack of dawn to caravan with the rest of the Sace peeps, while JC and I (Team Procrastination) got up at 9 and didn't leave Sac till 10:30. JC and I took the 680 route, stopping in Danville for free Togo's at my parent's house (w00t!) and got down to Hammy at around 2pm IIRC. Getting to the mountain, we skipped Mt. Hamilton Rd, and took Quimby instead, on the way in. That's a pretty cool road, and it even cuts down to a single lane at one point!
At the meet, we missed some of the people due to our late arrival, but there were still a ton of sick cars there. I put my ride in the line for dent removal since Alex's roommate (I think someone said that it was his roommate) was there pounding out dents. Homeboy pulled those stupid dents I put in the fenders out in just a few minutes of prodding and tapping.
We tired to get Daniel (brucelee) to jump some stuff, but he wasn't having it, so we took a run up to the top of the mountain to Lick Observatory. I followed Steve (Kostamojen) up, he filmed out the rear of his car at the group, and I filmed towards him, so we should have some cool footage to splice together. Steve set a great pace... not too fast (it's a friggen dangerous road, 5 ft wide lanes, rediculous inclines, blind corners, and no guardrails) but quick enough to be fun.
We checked out the views from the top, and hit up the mini-tour of the 100+ yr old 36in refractor telescope. Being a bit of an astronomy buff, I really enjoyed checking out the scope: it was built in the 1870's and is the 2nd largest in the world (there's plenty of larger reflector scopes, but you simply can't make a refractor over 40in in diameter because the glass will distort under its own weight). Anyway, I thought it was cool.
On the drive back down the mountain, I followed Kevin, and filmed the whole ride. Then we took a few awesome pictures of my and Tyson's cars at the bottom before heading out Mt. Hamilton Rd. where we had to follow some TOOL in a Jetta who insisted on going 15mph and not using the turnouts. JC had a nice shouting match with him once we got to the bottom.
We took 680 back to Danville where my parents fed up BBQ chicken (w00t.... again). We left thier place at about 9pm and blasted to Reno, picking up a C5 Vette and an Impreza RS along the way to attack the mountains after Auburn at like 90mph , to get home at about 12:30am.
So, while it looks like the AutoX was a bunch of fun this weekend, this trip was totally worth it IMO. I had a blast kicking it with the Sac folks, checking out the biggest West Coast meet evAr, and bombing around some sweet roads!
