SCCA / Subaru Newsletter is out!

Remember that phone interview I did w/ SCCA? Well, the article is out and available here:

http://www.scca.com/Subaru_Email/index.html

It's pretty funny to see what made it into the article and what didn't. I talked to the author for about 30 minutes or so, and I'd guess that only about 1/3 of what we talked about got into print. Also, some numbers that I made up (and told him that I was just guessing on) were reported as fact, and some of the things I said were paraphrased in the quotes, but the article gets the gist of everything right. All in all I think the article is very good and even plugs the track day!

The best part is the quote about JC.

Here's what the author sent me:

Currently, we have over 4,000 folks who are receiving this e-newsletter.

Thanks much for taking the time to chat and I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Scott, the caption to your car photo has been addressed. I know it wasn’t from a “regular meeting” and I have informed those responsible for the mistake. I’m afraid there isn’t much I can do about it now that it has been released, but for the most part, I think it will go unnoticed.

Thanks again,

Curt K.

Hahaha. Nice work man. That is some good exposure! The JC quote seems to be missing something, it makes it seem like you don't like him

good job though.
Matt

Hey, nice article. Yeah Scott, I know what you mean about not having control over what gets printed! I had no idea that I fit into the median age group at 27....I had figured I'd probably be among the older set. Still, I have to side with JC about old-school
I'm not sure how much "trash-talk" I have in me though....great copy!

MikeSTI 2004-07-22 08:51 AM

nice read! well done

edit - I'm 28 =)

sperry 2004-07-22 08:58 AM

To be honest, I made up that 28 yr old avg age off the top of my head. I figured, I'm 26... almost everyone is right around my age... we've got a few members around 21, and a few in their 30s, 40s, and 50s... so I guessed 28. I even told Curt that I was guessing, but printing "SECCS guesses their average age is 28" looks lame.

The JC quote is missing the smilies that we'd have posted on the message board. I was literally laughing while I told the story. Curt asked me if I had any anticdotes from the club, and the first thing that poped into my mind are the stories that JC's told me about his street racing days... I figured those were unprintable, so I just told Curt about JC and his perpetual resistance to change.

Great article...

Hey Scott, if you haven't already done so, you should grab a full copy of this, and the Norpac Convention article for the SECCS archives in case they disappear...
