Ice on the roads!
When I turned onto my side street this morning, there was a traffic jam -- a bunch of cars were sitting in place spinning their wheels, and others were just pulled off to the side. They couldn't get grip!
My car just went right on through and boy was I glad I had AWD. The RE92's performed just fine. There were several areas on my trip in to work that was just like this. Anybody else have this experience? -Debbie |
All over town last night and this morning. I saw rear-whell drive cars stuck in front of my house wince they couldn't move there car.
I actually went to my parents house folowing their Audi A6, and even the Audi spun out and slid into a curb too! No damage since he was going slow. But mine would just climb over the piles of snow and stick to the ground. |
Last winter I slid my car into a curb, AWD and all. AWD is a huge help, but we're not invincable!
I got some Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22s after the above incident, and they help even more. In snow they're phenominal, on ise, they're pretty good, but not as good as studded tires. |
Altough studded snows are extremly helpful, I hate the sound and ride. I will just take my chances and go real slow when I think its icy. After hitting the small tree, I am making sure I don't hit anything again for a while.

My Dunlop Winter Sport m2's are working great, I love these tires. I couldn't believe how bad the roads were this morning around my house.

Isee recently chains have been manditory over the pass. Doesn't that mean we need chains also? even with snow tires. Just curious. I may have to go invest in some wire chains.
|
Usually "chain required" means chains, or AWD with "Mud and Snow" tires. Even re92's are rated M+S. I've never been required to put on chains, and I've driven thru there just minutes before they decided to close 80.

I like to play it safe though, so I might do the same & go invest in some chains. Ugh. |
thanks. thats all i needed to know. I would prefer not to use chains, since everytime I have used them, its always ened up a mess. My friends Grand prix had wire chains on one time, then they wrapped around the axel and ripped off half his front fender.
I guess he probably put them on wrong, but I don't like to chance that. |
