Sway bar question

To install a rear sway bar, do I have to have the weight on or off the rear wheels?

Kostamojen 2004-08-11 10:38 AM

On. Best way is to use ramps.

Like Steve said, having the suspension at ride height is the easiest way because the endlinks won't be under any load. Ramps definately make it easier, but you can actually do it w/o them buy just cramming yourself under there. I pulled the swaybar off Art's car in about 2 minutes the day Matt traded his wagon in on the STi so we could put it on Matt's car at the dealership. We used no jacks or ramps, just a towel on the ground.

Does that help? I will be doing my own rear sway soon, and the only thing that I'm not very clear on is if all the attachment bolts need to be locktited....anybody?

Thanks everyone! Good info.

No, because you'll probably be doing this mod again in the future. :P

Did my upgrade to a WRX wagon rear bar this afternoon. Left it on the ground, no ramps. A very easy install, just took my time and it came out to about an hour from getting the toolbox out to putting it back. Didn't use loctite, but am wondering how often I should check the bolts....

Results? Seems to make the quick turns a bit more controllable. The stock one was tiny compared to that WRX bar!
