Topgun Raceway - August 21st

I know most of you guys choose not to drag race, but it actually is kinda fun. Some of you guys should go out there. Some DSMs will be there, and I was trying to get Pops to go out there with the SRT4. Plus, you're able to test your cars acceleration abbilities. :P Hopefully I do alright with my POS stock clutch, but I have to get out there before I leave for Japan.

I am down to swing out a watch at least.

Dean 2004-08-16 08:33 AM

Might be fun if I am going to try and ProSolo next year...

Details? Time, how much, tech requirements?

murphy 2004-08-16 10:04 AM

dean, last year it was 35 to run or so..tech is easy they just check to make sure shit wont be moving around when your racing. if you break 13.9 you need a helmet. What you need to find out is if its a point event. if it is get there early to run your car so you can establish a break out E.T. that E.T. is put on your wind shield. now when you race you want to be as close to it as possible. if you are closer to your E.T than the guy your racing you win...its bracket racing...so if your E.T. is lower than the guy next to you you start after him..
its really just a handy cap to make the race closer..
if its test and tune people pretty much use that for heads up racing and fine tuning of cars...its over all a good time..

sp00ln 2004-08-16 10:13 AM

I think it's a day time event and an import/compact invite. Someone just told me from my boards to go out there and it'll be the last chance I have to see what my poorly tuned car can do in the 1/4 before I leave for Japan. I bet it'll be around $35 for all day. And if your car can auto-cross, it can drag. I'd like to see some of you guys out there - art, you should drag your car! It's fun to race in the 1/4 :P I also think they have some "games" like best reaction time and stuff like that. I'll write them an email and post it on this thread. You can also contact them yourself or look on their site: www.topgunraceway.com

Hopefully see some of you there.

*edit*

It will be a night time event.

I was out there last year when it was a 1/8 mile and raced. I might even try but I don't know yet.

It was always a 1/4 mile track? Are you thinking of fernley?

ArthurS 2004-08-16 10:22 AM

Opps...yep. Top gun is in Fallon right?

BTW - I remember racing Greg (Nate) in his Mopar Stage 1 SRT-4. He definatly beat me :(

sp00ln 2004-08-16 10:23 AM

Right. Actually a FLAT track and an ACTUAL time slip!

ArthurS 2004-08-16 10:24 AM

I agree fernley isn't flat, but don't they have slips now?

sp00ln 2004-08-16 10:26 AM

1/8th mile slips. But whats the point? The time is still incorrect and I say the setup the track backwards so ricers get faster times because it's downhill. :P

Not Clear how the test & Tune/grudge portion will be run with the ET Bracket stuff... I have no interest in Bracket racing, just making a couple passes maybe... My car won't be fast with next to no power mods...

It was fun to hang out and watch when I was in Memphis...

Hmm... I still wrote them an email but it looks will have a TNT/Grudge match from 3-8pm. Thats open to see what your car can pull. Now, if anyone, I thought you dean would like the ET racing. It doesn't matter WHAT you race or how FAST it is, you're basicly racing against yourself. Ok, lets say you run 13.7s during the TNT. At 8, you'd put anywhere from a 13.5-13.7 (just throwing out some numbers) and the closer you get to that, the better chance you have to win. If you break, or go faster, than number you entered, you will be disqualified. The tree is based off of your entered time. So, a 10 second car will start about 3 seconds later than you. You get it? So, the better and most consistant driver wins. Plus, it looks like there will be a healthy payout.

What I never understood/liked about bracket racing, is that it penalizes the fast cars. A car with a monster motor, and tons of rubber will have more variations in 1/4 mile times due to the difficulty of getting consistant traction... meanwhile I can take a 1988 Subaru Loyal automatic out there, and run consistant 24.2's all day by "launching" in 2nd and leaving it there all the way down the track at 5000 rpm.

ArthurS 2004-08-16 01:00 PM

But aren't there classes that all the stupid fast cars only compete with each other? That way everyone in that class (of 25 it looks like this event) has the same problems to worry about with the launch ect...

Then there is the slower class...like the loyale and civic's and crap that don't have the same problem as those monster cars.

I don't really know, never been to a event like that.

I was under the impression that bracket racing is like our PAX in autocross... anyone can race anyone else, since you're only trying to go as fas at you said you would... you don't actually have to drive as fast as you can.

Dean 2004-08-16 01:27 PM

I believe they brake it into groups still for normal cometition...

13.000-
12.50-12.999
12.000-12.4999

But I may be wrong... Actually, your automatic Legacy would get killed by the computer controlled dragsters I saw in Memphis. They run in a 9.800 class I think. Basically as I understand it all the driver does is let go of the clutch and steer. The car does a low(er) torque launch and at a computer controlled time/distance, it floors it, so it looks like the car is broken until it is 250 or so feet down the track when it takes off...

murphy 2004-08-16 02:02 PM

dean they break it up into class of cars...subies are in the sport compact class. I was evern when turbo...if I take my RX when its done i fall under import class. they will make an announcement for class...to run the TT they will run the classes and when they are done and getting things fixed or changed on there cars they will run T&T. your ET's don't say what class your going to be in..they had cars from 18's to low 13's and some 12's in the sport compact class.

sp00ln 2004-08-16 04:43 PM

Also, this is a sport car invite. So I dont think any huge muscle cars will be there. Also, what I think you're looking for doink is heads up racing - when the light turns green, first pas the post wins. ET is the most skilled dragracing gets i'd say. Even down to the launch - you have to know how to handle your HP.

Yep, that sounds much better than the whole ET deal... but then I'm gonna need a faster car. Actually, what I need is a 1995 Camaro, stripped, caged, with a blower and NO2.

"Camaro, when you absolutely have to get from point A to point B in 9 seconds and there's no turning involved, accept no substitutes."

murphy 2004-08-17 06:58 PM

 would you put a little carbon fiber wing on it too?

sp00ln 2004-08-17 07:51 PM

^lol.

Oh, and I was wrong - all cars are invited! 8)

U53D 2004-08-18 07:52 AM

i think i might come out and bring my 4eat beast
