Wheel Stud
 

So, Lithia says that according to their service manual, the stud replacement on the front rotor takes 5 hours, because the hub assembly has to be taken apart and repressed. What are they referring to? Does anyone know if this is accurate? I told them to hold off, I will find some other means...I don;t want to pay $600 for a stud replacement. ray the service writer, is going to talk to a mechanic to see if there is a shortcut but damn...any thoughts?

I had Sierra AutoSport fix my rear stud, which involved the same process and I think it cost me around $100.

Maybe the STi is different than the WRX, but on my car, the front hubs have a little notch in them that allows you to take out the lqg w/ removing anything else.

I had 2 done on my car in like an hour:

Jack up car.
Take off wheel.
Take of brake caliper.
Remove brake rotor.
Line up the stud w/ notch in hub.
Pound it out.
Replace w/ new stud.
Use lugnut and washers to seat stud.
Replace rotor, caliper and wheel.
All done!

Yeah, I'm not going to have Lithia do it...No matter what I will pay out the ass. I will take it a part and compare to a WRX, maybe it's just as easy to do myself...we will see.

ray just called me and said the mechanic knew a short cut, they're going to do it for <$100...I'm cool with that. 8)

That's what I thought... but I guess they finally fired that jackhole that was in the service dept. I've only had to file two complaints w/ SOA over that guy:

Him: "We can't replace the clutch under warranty because that sound it makes is normal."

Me: "Did you call the Subaru Tech line?"

"yeah"

"Did they tell you about the known problem w/ the early '02 clutches?"

"yeah"

"Did they give you the test procedure to check to see if the sound is related to that problem?"

"yeah"

"Did you run that test on my car?"

"no"

"Then how can you tell me it's not that problem?"

"The sound is normal. If you'd like to dispute it, call SOA."

I took my car there to get it fixed after an accident..well they reused several of the old damanged parts in the repair!!!FUCKERS that and this was when my subie was turbo..good thing I disconnected the boost controler..the bastards took it out driving and were playing with the boost settings...I know this because the high boost knob was adjusted to almost all the way up. And the adjustment knob was in the out position ( old blitz sbc)

Actually, when I left the WRX at Sierra Autosport during the "hanger" incident, I got it back and not only was the seat adjusted (which is expected if the mechanic's short) but all the mirrors were adjusted too. Something tells me the guys were on a test drive. When you're around European sports cars all day, I can imagine they'd jump on a chance to compare a Japanese rally car to the Ferrari's they work on all day. Something tells me they probably weren't highly impressed. :lol:

Yes I can blame them...they still did and do shitty work...what if I haddent disconnected my boost cont? they would have blown my engine.

This worked out perfectly.... Hopefully i will see you guys on May 19th-07 RFR.
