Final Autocross of 2004 This weekend

Final 2 Events of the season, this Saturday,October 9 and Sunday,October 10 at Reno Stead Airport.

Looks like the forcast calls for some showers Saturday  , and clearing Sunday. I doubt it will be enough moisture to warrant a tire change, But I may bring my Snows along just in case...

Also, looks like the STX standigs are wrapped up...However, I have to run really well or I will end up 3rd in Street Tire. Weak. QKsubi just has to run both days and he wins the first ever STU title for RNO region..

Should be a great final weekend and end to an expensive season

You'd have to get out of bed before 4pm or so, so I'm guessing probably not.

dknv 2004-10-09 08:28 PM

Fun times today, but cold this afternoon!

Did I hear one of our own took street tire today?

JC 2004-10-09 08:29 PM

When are you guys out there tomorrow?

Pat R. 2004-10-09 08:30 PM

Hats off to Matt "Takuma" Roy. Good job sir.

dknv 2004-10-09 08:31 PM

Most of us run last tomorrow (NSM's & STS/X). Early to mid afternoon is my guess. "Turnout looks to be lower tomorrow, so run groups may go fastar...

JC 2004-10-09 08:38 PM

Ugh, did you say early.

Thanks guys, the clean sweep for the weekend was a nice way to end the season...

ACTION!!!

Paddy O'Riley...I like the sound of that...

Well the season ended with a bang for some, and a whimper for others... Matt and Eric finished with some awesome driving... so awesome that it really put the hurt on us poor non-STi driver.

IMO, the final course was very STi friendly... It seemed like the speeds were right inline with the middle of the STi's power band in 2nd gear, which means they were right in the uber-bog-zone bottom of second for the WRXs. :( For reference, both Matt and Eric whamped on Dean, who in turn handily beat all the rest of the us like he normally does. To make things worse, both Kevin and I were running in NSM (Street Tire Street Modified) with our way-underprepped SM cars... so we got slaughtered in PAX.

Even with the "unusual" course, the final weekend actually had some pretty good battles. Matt and Eric were trading times almost every run. Dean and I were closer than usual at only 4 tenths apart... (that may have been our closest finish all season... though at the time I was concerning myself with catching Matt and Eric ). Kevin and Tyson were going at it... pitting Kevin's gearing against Tyson's power (Tyson took it by 2 tenths on his last run)!

In retrospec, I figure I actually drove pretty well (even though I felt slow seeing those STi's kill me), since I was only about 4 tenths off Dean, and he's usually closer to a second ahead of me. But because of my PAX factor alone, I lost like 3 positions in overall PAX season standings, and ended up getting beat by Matt! If I had run in STX, I probably would have ended up one place higher than Matt in the season standings! :P Oh well, those are the sacrifices you have to make for a better track car. Not being able to go up in boost due to STX rules sucks, so if that means I'm in SM, so be it!

And, since this was the last event, I got the pleasure of reviewing the whole season and I have to say, SECCS straight up represented!! Since the final season standings aren't totally official yet, I probably shouldn't say too much, but it looks like SECCS members are going to take home around 10 trophies! That's like 15% of all the awards this year! :D Nice job everyone!

That makes sense, that explains a thing or two ... I just wished it explained why I hit so many cones ...
Despite the cones, on Sunday I think I was closer to Dean's best time than I've ever been. That is, unless some more late cone calls made it into the computer ...

But yeah, I saw some of Matt's and Eric's and Tyson's runs, (as well as your plowing run, Scott, ), and I must say I was delighted to see how well Subaru represents. Couldn't see Deedees's or Kevin's - wish we had some video.[/img]

Well, when can we see the results from this weekend's events? I'd like to see how everything stacked up.

Next, In Dean's defense, everyone get's one off weekend, that's the first such weekend I've seen from him all year. Dean's been kicking my ass all year, and I've really enjoyed the competition between Dean, Scott and Myself, Dean is still a superior driver and I've enjoyed chasing you guys this year. Plus, Dean get's bonus points for that incredible slide thru the infield

Eric really stepped it up...what a strong finish. That car is an animal on coils ... I'm really looking forward to battling next season...Tyson closed the gap on the STX times this weekend too...Good to see everyone improving each week.

Debbie...I wish you would run STXL full time...You are an excellent driver, and I'd put money on you winning Ladies PAX in '05 if you run STX or even NESPL  I just don;t see Patty keeping pace with you, given the success you've had in Dean's car this season.

All IN All, Autocross is still a ton of fun, can't wait 'til next season..

zpeed 2004-10-11 05:28 PM

My fastest run was the 1st run but with a cone. I have only 1 clean run. Keep hitting that cone before the starting light twice. I beat my brother in his own car for about 5 sec. But he did improve 11 sec. from his 1st run. Can't wait to see my time compare to other STI. The stock STI suspension is too high for me. Maybe I can trick my brother to get a TIEN Flex :D .

I don't know that Dean had an "off" day. It truely was a difficult course to go fast on in a WRX. I'll show you my in-car video, you'll see how hard it was to get the car moving. I think even an error-free run wouldn't have been off the speeds that you and Eric were running.

I'm not trying to say you STi owers weren't fast, y'all certainly dropped the hammer, I'm just saying us WRX guys were pushing our cars to the limit, and simply didn't have anything more for you last weekend.

Here's a clip of the run on Saturday I took w/ Nick in the car. Note the crap for acceleration especially at the north end of the course in the two lefthanders. I even yell "go! go! go!" at the car trying to encourage it to get up and move.

Wow Matt - thanks! Mutual admiration for your improvement this year too! Plus, you were the first Suby out to Solo Trials, and that first day I was so impressed with the times you laid down,

I don't know that Dean had an off day on Sunday, but I do think he had some off runs. That third one, the one he spun in spectacularly, looked faster than anyone else I watched through the section right before the box. I wish we could've seen the same run finish without the spin.

Say, Nat - about hitting that cone at the start -- I felt for you, that's happened to me before. It's one of those manuevers, where you have more to lose than gain by trying to go too fast too soon. But, good driving, man. You sure are funny, trick your brother to get the Tein's huh?
