something I've been wondering for a while

Whats with the naming scheme? Quite a few people have their first name and the first letter of their last name (I assume) as a username, whats with that? That complaining or anything just curious is all.

khail19 2004-10-09 11:15 PM

That's just all of us weirdos that like our name as a part of our username.

Kevin M 2004-10-10 12:47 AM

Smaller member base. We mostly know all of each other up here, so names work fine.

MikeK 2004-10-10 09:25 AM

No imagination :P

When I registered on I-Club like 3 years ago, I was under the impression that you had a "username" that you used to login to the site, and a seperate "member name" that would show up with your posts. I used "sperry" as my username since it's the same username I've had on lots of systems at school/work. Then I found out that the username is your member name, and learned to live with it. As I started joining other boards, I kept the same name so other people that cross-breed on the boards will recognize me.

I actually prefer it now, since all the people with names like "02WRX_BADASS" and whatnot look like jackasses when they sell the WRX and buy a Honda or some crap.

If I talk to someone and they call me JC, I know they're from the internet...

That must work out pretty good actually... I think it took me like two months after meeting you to realize that's not your name

It works out really well. Unless one of my real friends meets the internet people, then it's "JC who the fuck is that?" :P

tysonK 2004-10-10 07:28 PM

OMG I'm not real friend!

I stand out in the middle of parking lot with you till 11:30!

JC 2004-10-10 07:58 PM

How come you never call me to hang out then huh? Screw you tyson...

Zactly. When you're on like 15 different web boards, you have to have something universal. I thought about doing something where (board name + scotty) = user name, but that seemed too complicated. In any case, if I named myself "A_1_SNIPER" or something on this board, I'd seem just as weird as "2FAST2WAGONS" on AR15.com.

tysonK 2004-10-10 08:04 PM

I getting a cell phone just hold on!

Kevin M 2004-10-10 09:29 PM

I'm BAN SUVS on every board I frequent, but that works well since they're almost all Subaru related

I use a different name on SA.com and C-C.com actually.

Fine. I'm calling you AWD OWNZ U from now on.

Libila 2004-10-11 09:18 AM

When I spoke to "JC" at the meet, he introduced himself as JC. Now I just feel stupid.

My user name was an inside joke when I was 15, and now it's my nick name to my close friends. I really don't know why I use it, but I'm registered on about ten different boards with this name.

If my name was Jebbadiah Christopherson, I'd introduce myself as "JC" too.

ArthurS 2004-10-11 12:47 PM

I am either ArthurS, KeeperOfAcheron, or Horsepowerforbrains on the boards I frequent.

MikeSTI 2004-10-11 12:51 PM

this is the only place I think I used my name otherwise I'm known as - Famink

THAWA 2004-10-12 07:17 AM

I do agreew ith you guys on the names taht are specific to one thing, like blahblahwrxblah. having one name for all forums is good, hell I've been using this one for 4 years whereever i go :) only changed it slioghtly

ArthurS 2004-10-12 07:21 AM

What does your name mean?

THAWA 2004-10-12 12:48 PM

heh, it was a inside joke between a couple of friends so it really makes no sense when i try to tell it, but it used to be THAWABUTT, which was the three words that was and butt jammed together, but most people called me thawa for short so i use that now.
