Bring on the Snow Donkies!

Welp, I got my Winter Sport M3's put on the car today. Of course the manager over at Big-O had to have me come over and look at the tires after they were put on and while the car was up on the lift. He wanted to show me that I purchased the wrong sized tires, and that they rubbed on the inside of the fender liner in the rear. Which is true until you put the car on the ground... I'm pretty sure there's plenty of room, considering people are running 255/40-18's on their SVX's.

Then JDM Pat aligned the car for me. I had him dial in -1.1deg of camber in the front. The car is much less boat-like now. Instead of having to iron-grip the wheel and coax it through long corners, now it just settles into the turn and lets you cruise with just a light grip on the wheel... much nicer. 'Course the manager asked me if I was planning on racing the car due to all the negative camber I had dialed in... racing an SVX on oversized snowtires! I figured, -1.2deg is still within spec from Subaru, so -1.1 should be just fine, and the car turns so much better.

Also, the new tire balancing has taken all the vibration out of the steering... this thing is a freeway champion! I could fall asleep in that thing if is wasn't for all the giant SUVs out there trying to kill me.

TTIWWOP!

haha,,,good work dude...Glad to hear that made so much difference. You really went -1+ camber in the SVX? That's interesting...Hopefully the tire wear will not be too weird...Sometimes tires with softer sidewalls respond funny to =/- camber, but I guess there's only one way to find out for sure.

Oh, the SUV's are not trying to kill you, the drivers are...

-1.1deg is still within OEM specs, and that car's got a *ton* of body roll due to its weight and old struts, so the negative camber reall seems to help. It's much easier to drive, and is less camber than I was running on the WRX pre-coilovers. Hell, the WRX had -1.4deg in the rear from the factory! I think everything will be cool on the SVX... if not, I can adjust the camber myself if I really need to, but it seemed pretty nice on the drive home from Big-O.

And the SUV driver's thing reminds me: I need to get a set of Hella SuperTones for the SVX.

Wait, how does it rub in the air but not on the ground?

At full droop on the lift, the wheels drop with extreme positive camber, tilting the inside bottom edge of the tires towards the fender-liners where they rub a bit.

It won't be a problem unless I'm jumping the car.

I thought that was in the drive thru, and that was just making you want to kill yourself... :P

Now Scott, all you have to do is not remember to jump the SVX. Of course, you could go back and complain that the tires rub when you get airborne [sp], that I'd like to see.

"Yeah uh, these seem to be rubbing when I hit a 'double caution over jump into right 4 trees outside'. How am I ever going to win Sno*Drift?"

On another note: is there a Sno*Drift this year, or will SCCA's dropping of Rally kill it? :(

Rally America has picked up 8 of the 9 rounds of ProRally (so far, they are still in talks with the last venue).

They created their own championship consisting of the old ProRally rounds, and they are hoping to add Rim of the World, and Wild West Rally.
