Viva Las Vegas???
 

I dispite my hatred for Las Vegas....alas I must finish Architecture school. It's cheap, close and I can transfer with my company. I mentioned it to my boss last monday and now he's got everything lined up with our Corporate office and the Las Vegas office. Everyone in my office knew about it before I even did. I'm getting a promotion to Project Leader (a salary position :?)

So now I have to work out a specific date to move down there. I know it's a little bit down the road, but February will be here before I know it. I'm thinking leaving Reno the weekend of February 25. (This is so freaken crazy :shock: )

WOW! Congrats I guess..Vegas isn't great, but it's okay, but the opportunity is really great...you won;t regret it...

I super nervous about it though....my stomachs all wrenched up right now, while I'm writing a salary proposal.

True...I can't believe how nice my company is. This is the 3rd time I have worked for them and they are will to give me a raise and promotion, all the while working around my school schedule. $5 dollars says that they are even willing to pay for the move to Vegas. Big companies can super rock. I even managed to score super benefits.

Snowball effect! They must like you, and consider your education as an asset to the company. I'll bet once your accredited they'll keep you around and bump you into a nice cushy design position!

I guess another way to look at the fact that I'll be 30 by the time I actually have my architecture license, is that all already be working as one, I just don't get to stamp drawings. The really upside to this is that while the other students at the school are just being interns, I'll be managing projects and telling interns what to do. Too cool. I need to be management. :D

Depends. :moon: Been there done that. It's not always glorious. Actually it rarely is. You get stuck in between a rock & a hard place.

Wow...what a great opportunity for you. Of course we'll miss you and your witty personality.

When you're working on real high-profile/pressure projects sometimes it can be real nice to not be the one with your stamp on the drawings (and neck on the line), believe me.

I for one am glad I don't work in an industry where I need a P.E. license anymore...

For me it's more about legally being able to call myself an architect. If I stay with the company, there is a good chance I will never have to stamp a set of plans. There's only eight people in a company of about 400 that are allowed to stamp plans.

This is great news for you Deede! I'll forward this to my business partner who is now 33 and does not have his license.

I think you are definately with the right firm if they are willing to do all this for you. And Scott is right on the money; they clearly see this as a huge asset to there company to help you on your way to licensure.

How much longer do you have to get your degree? I'm sure you can take Vegas for whatever time it takes. I guess the bigger picture question is: will they send you back to Reno when you are done?

Either way, this is a great opportunity.

I have the first two years of design done...if I can get them to accept them. I think that as long as I can race, make new friends and afford Vegas I'll finish it out. And unless something changes my attitude towards Vegas, I'll be bolting out of there as soon I finish. I'll probably try to transfer back to Reno, but that is at least 4 years away.

Ahhhh.. Holy Sh*t. I got everything that I asked for on my transfer request to the Las Vegas office. I fricken love my company. I guess this means that Vegas is a for sure thing. I my stomach is major queezy now, so nervous and excited.

Oh and my new boss is super cool. He races super street bikes, he has a r6 (i believe it's called).
