nOOb here

Greetings all, thought id better introduce myself after having just randomly posted in the xmas thread :? the name is Shawn..the car is a SVX..why a SVX? well drive one for a week and find out for yourself :D comfy, auto, weird, and not all that slow..and with the auto, I can relaxingly enjoy my coffee whilst, gingerly giving errant drivers freindly hand gestures.
I have been at a couple of the meets thus far and plan on many more..Tyson basically recruited me..he's to blame
hope to see all your much newer than mine cars..bastards! (envy)
but really they all rock..see you at the meets

JC 2005-02-11 11:41 PM

Welcome, I'm a former SVX owner. :) I'll probably see you at a meet or function eventually.

MikeK 2005-02-12 12:02 AM

yes, hope to meet you all at the meets
I have yet to ride shotgun in a STi or WRX and be shown what those beasts can do..that was a hint :D

Nick Koan 2005-02-12 09:38 AM

Haha, cool. Come to the first autocross event to get a hint and what these cars can do :p

I shall :D and most likely will run the SVX a few times..with the auto now, I can concentrate on the course and revel in the fact that the 'power' light will be on the whole ride..good times  BTW ive seen the autox over the past several years, and have most likely seen a few of you running at one time or another....I just desire to be in the passenger seat getting my head slapped against the window  I used to run a Mazda MX-3 V6 white there around the 1997-99 seasons..it did well against its competition, mainly the integras

Nope. remember I took you around the little esses at work in the front! That was after I got my wheels IIRC.

you said something like. "nice no drama at all it handles well."

We'll get you a ride in one of the Stage 1 STi's next week.

Shut up.... you had an SVX for like a week, and the whole time it was stuck in 3rd gear. :P

Anyway, I'm the other *current* SVX owner, 'course I'm not driving the car right now as it's down at Gilson Autobody getting repaired on a sand damage claim... actually, it's just down there... we'll see if it actually get's repaired.

As far as the SVX allowing you to drink coffee because of the auto... Considering there are no cupholders I think I finally see why it was only offered as an auto.

Anyway, it's good to have another SVXer on the board! I thought JC was gonna stick it out, but his SVX was gonna require a *ton* of work to get up to daily driver status, so he sold it to our friend Joe who runs the repair side of Subaru Specialists, and who's a certified SVX expert/nutcase. So if you ever have any issues w/ your SVX, just let Joe know, he's able to fix just about anything on those cars.

Weasel 22 2005-02-13 11:02 AM

My SVX was stuck in 3rd gear?muahs? oh wait you are speaking of the other guy  its been perfect since I bought it! ::knocking on the faux wood dash inserts::  the only problem with mine is the paint..clear coat is flaking in a few select spots..that will be taken care of in april..new paint job :D I bought this one due to its tranny being good and its rear wheel bearings are in great shape..the SVX in general has only a few trouble spots compared to other vehicles..however these 'spots' can be damn expensive to correct.
Speaking of maintenance, I need the shops info in Sacramento that a few have spoken of, so that I can get an estimate on front engine seals and a tranny cooler install.
Look forward to seeing you at the meets
BTW I installed a cup holder..one of the first things I did... I dedicated the center console to a stow away holder..can hold the big drinks :D and really Subaru..a 30 grand plus vehicle in its time and no cup holders! doh

He was talking about JC's shortlived SVX ownership, hence the quote of JC's post.

Don't forget I could just buy another one that its good shape for the price I'd pay to fix my old one. :P I still gotta buy another beater car.

One of these days I'll need to do this. Actually, I don't think I've even ridden shotgun in a WRX yet.

Speaking of shotgun, whatever happened to Brandon's Altezzas? I took the BMG out Saturday, and it was dying to shoot something besides water bottles and 1/2" steel plate.

OR, you could just sell your cars and buy an Evo..   (only playin man)

Another thought would be to keep the RS, go to an STi shortblock, RA gearset, new clutch + flywheel, FMIC, and a gt28 turbo.. now that would be a damn good time.. and it would still be an all season car! friggin awesome

I figured I can get an EVO for about $20k plus tax. So believe me its tempting. I really want to get a house though. So dumping $11k or so to get the car and kicking my insurance up is probably not the best plan. You'll probably see me rolling in an MR in 3 or 4 years though.

I did see a SC kit for sale though. It's awful tempting.

I'll get a quote on the stuff you requested. Oil in the front usually means front main, and possibly cam seals, we won't know until we get in there.

What kind of tranny cooler are you looking to put in, and where? Do you already have one, or do you need a quote for a cooler as well?
