Help I lost my brain.....................again!

So I decided to install my new speakers this past weekend. I got a great deal on some MB quart premium separates - 6.5 in front, 5.25 in the rear. The install went great. No problems at all. I raised a beer to salute my great work. After placing the beer down, I got in my car to back it out of the garage. Tunes blasting so loud that I could barely here the crunch of my drivers side door THAT I LEFT OPEN as I was backing out!

It is amazing how the brain works in its 40th year with 1/2 a beer.

The local repair shop is looking at it right now. I didn't do much body damage: 1 very small ding at the top edge of the door with chipped paint, broken window regulator and bent the window seal at the base of the window. The window got so misaligned that I could barely shut the door.

Man I'm sure glad I saved that $80. to install my own speakers. IAADA!

Bummer Dude :)

How much money have you "saved" on that stereo by now? inclusing your labor, and now body work on the car?

I think Scott is having similar luck with his car, but it is all drive train related... He thinks he borked his motor this weekend after the 6 speed/rear end/brakes issue.

I know Dean. Sometimes it's just better to have someone do it for you. I'll let you know what the damage costs today. I probably will not fix the little dent and just bend it back as best I can and use some touch paint and gum!

That sucks about Scott's car!

MikeSTI 2005-06-20 09:16 AM

dude that sucks!!!! go's to show you that celebration can only start when the car is in park, and drinking and driving don't mix even if you are only driving 15 ft.

Wow...bummer deal Nick.

So how do the new speakers sound? Was the head unit also upgraded?

MikeK 2005-06-20 12:13 PM

Pics?

doubleurx 2005-06-20 02:29 PM

No Pics, but I just picked it up from the local shop. They were able to fix the window so that it operates fine. They managed to bend back the weather stripping so it looks OK. The only sign of the incident left is a quarter sized dent at the top of the door at the jamb, and a slight bulge in the weather stripping. The window operates perfectly. Cost me $180. I'm sure if I wanted the stripping replaced and door dent fixed/painted it would be another $500. I think I will live with it and get some touch up paint.

Speakers sound great. I did upgrade the head unit with a Kenwood DDX-7015.

If it makes you feel any better, I've done the same thing before. Backing my first car ('93 Saturn) out of the garage in my parents' house, for some reason I left the driver's side door open about 10". it caught on the frame of the garage, and bent the hell out of the window frame.

It sure stopped the car quickly though ;)

I will start calling you "Tommy Boy"..

Bummer man.

dayofpain 2005-06-20 05:29 PM

yeah so i charge 125 per set for mb quart premiums. so you saved 250 doing it yourself. maybe that cheers you up a bit ?

tysonK 2005-06-20 07:15 PM

No!

At least you didn't rip the door off.

Considering the $180 It cost to get my window fixed and the dent on the door, I think I am still upside down on this install.

Dang.......last pair of MB Quarts I bought were like $375  Then again, that was over ten years ago when I was really into car stereo's.

Excellent car audio speakers none the less. Bummer on the door. Just think, everytime you crank up the stereo and have the windows down with the wind in your hair. You'll have something to shake your head at and smile.

Rock on brother.

I scored the speakers on ebay. They are the premiums. I got both pairs for $480.
