STi parts questions

I've been looking into suspension modifications for the GM6 (is that right?) 2.5 RS lately (because I'm in the market for one) and I had a few questions that I'm hoping you guys could help me out with.

After looking through lots of threads on nasioc, rs25, and i-club I was wondering why STi suspension parts aren't used by many. I've heard the springs are a bit much for daily driven cars but other than that, nothing. Is it the fact that they (STi parts) are expensive verse the aftermarket parts available?

I would think that a factory performance branch such as STi would be popular. Does anyone have any idea why this isn't so?

I suspect because most people who upgrade their suspension either do coilovers or springs.

Usually STi take-offs are a complete unit. Because most people are doing coilovers or springs they are not doing take-offs.

I would also say that a lot of the people upgrading their suspension are looking for something more aggressive and more flexible than take-offs.

I think you have to modify the rear top mounts on a RS to make V7 and above STi struts work IIRC?

Yeah, GD rear top hats are different. You can't use GD rear springs with a GM/GC and vice versa, although the '02-'04 strut itself can be used. Nothing from an '05 will work because the struts (front and rear) and rear top hats both are different.

So what STi suspension parts can be used?

After asking about suspension suggestions on Nasioc I was recommended to the V 5/6 springs and struts. The spring rates are slightly higher than the P1s but I've read mixed feelings about them. I also found a STi 21mm rear sway bar for 93- Imprezas ( https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/p...roducts_id=635 ). I've also heard that the STi solid front and rear tophats are a good upgrade, but they are hard to find.

So I guess I've answered my own question in a way, but I would still like input from you guys on these parts. Anyone?

I don't think many of us are running a lot of STi parts(except some people who have the whole car) :) . MattR had the "pinks" springs for his sturts on his car, but now those are being replaced.

I think when we give advice on the board we like for it to be first hand knowledge. I know when I read a post by Scott, Dean, etc. most likely they are commenting because they have used or are using the part.

So don't think we a snubbing you Tim, we just don't have the first hand knowledge that we need to advise someone on a part. :~:

That's understandable Tyson.

I'm finally getting some decent help on my Nasbisco thread. I think I should start a "suspension suggestion thread" here because I know that you guys know what you are talking about and I won't get responces like, "I think you should roll your fender with a baseball bat."
