C'mon... did you really think I wouldn't notice?

Some guy (who'll remain anonymous unless one of you 'tards goes hunting on the internet) posts that he got hit by a dead-beat bidder on his auction for an '04 STi gauge cluster. Apparently, the guy won the auction, then disapeared.

Since I'm looking for one of those to go w/ my new DCCD, I get in touch w/ him... hilarity(?) ensues.

Thanks for the advice guys.

How much did it go for? I might be able to save you the trouble of re-listing it.

Hi there. It went for $390 + $15 shipping, so grand total of $405 shipped. Let me know if you're interested, I wanna get this thing back on eBay ASAP if you're not. Thanks.

Do you have a link to the previous listing? I'd like to see a pic if possible. Is this a take-off or ordered from Subaru? How many miles are on the odometer?

Hi, thanks for the interest. The cluster was bought brand new from the dealership. If you need to have your mileage changed you can contact these guys: Tacoma Speedometer . They can adjust it electronically and legall for a fee if you provide a pic of your mileage and your vin number.

This is the description that was posted complete with pics:

"2004 USDM SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

NO RESERVE! NO RESERVE! NO RESERVE!

- originally purchased brand new from the dealership
- only 14,445 miles!
- in PERFECT WORKING ORDER - was previously used in my own 2002 WRX
- beautiful SWEEPING MOTION upon start up (like Defi BF series gauges)
- BLACK OUT display when car is turned off (like Defi BF series gauges)
- ADJUSTABLE integrated SHIFT LIGHT w/ BEEP/MUTE feature
- AMBIENT TEMPERATURE DISPLAY (requires temp unit to function - not incl. in auction)
- beautiful EL lighting with variable dimming settings
- PLUG AND PLAY with 2002+ Imprezas (snip B28 pin)

Auction includes everything you need if you own a 2002+ Impreza: STI clear plastic cover, rev knob and tripometer knob, meter panel, and silver meter ring surround (see pics).

***BONUS***

I can black out the DCCD light for you at no extra cost. It will constantly shine if you do not have a 6 speed STI transmission with DCCD. This is a completely harmless/invisible and completely reversible mod if you would like me to do it for you.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. This is a beautiful, well-built OEM piece. It really added some class to my WRX and I enjoyed watching it light up every time I started the car. The only reason I am selling it is because I want a rare JDM part and I need to make some money to be able to purchase it. I hate parting with this piece but I'm happy to know that another Subaru enthusiast will enjoy it."

Lemme know! Thanks.

Um yeah... sounds like an okay deal. Till I find this:

Note the $375 winning bid. What retard loses an easy sale over an extra $15? I PM'd him back telling him to just re-list it on eBay and hope he gets his $405 since I don't want to play games. Oh well. The guy's a pretty decent contributor to the Subaru community at least... he had a lot of input on the OAT sensor wiring for this gauge cluster, so I'm not gonna try to bust his balls over this, but it makes me sad that people want to play little games w/ their fellow enthusiasts. :(

Doesn't eBay have a policy of not allowing refs to "eBay" in member names?

Email him back, and say you'd be happy to give him $375 shipped for it --- hahahaha.

I never heard of that, but I avoid eBay like the plague.

I don't want to deal w/ the guy at any price... if he's willing to BS me for $15, who knows what the quality of the part really is... he could have f'd it up or something.

You can get the cluster here for about $540 shipped from www.subaruwrxparts.com

http://www.subaruwrxparts.com/wrx-interior.html

You can even get it in kph for that JDM feel :p

Ya but shipping was actually $16 on the auction. He's was giving you a discount on that you ungrateful son of a bitch.

Nice...

I was at the dealer and priced out those parts... over $800! I think the $525 from subaruwrxparts seems like the way to go... brand new parts, no hassles... w00t!

Then all I need is a temp sensor from an Outback, a few bits to build the adapter circuit, and a validated mileage sticker from the dealer (or I can send the gauge to that place in WA, but really... why bother when the sticker on the door is just as legal?)

Oh, and I got an explaination from the guy about the discrepancy.

Because the buyer he had was in Singapore, he had "an agreement outside of eBay" for additional cash on the deal to cover the more expensive shipping. Sounds almost legit, but doesn't really explain why he wouldn't have explained that to me to begin with.

Either way... ~$400 for used parts still isn't enough of a discount when new bits are only about $100 more.

I agree. AND there's no shadiness involved with purchasing the new stuff :D

If you buy a cluster used, you could end up with one out of an old eclipse or something.
