TIC STI short shifer
I know of three of us that have this kit. My personal opinion is that anyone with an STI would love this shift kit. It costs $230 shipped and it feels amazing. Check it out:

I don;t want my tranny to sound all shitty like Erics.
|
then buy the prodrive shift knob. it cured my rattle.
|
I can't hear my shifter over the sound of the tires, turbo, exhaust, and the voice in my head that's screaming "SPEND MONEY AND GO FASTER!".
+1 for the "get one" count, as long as you don't have to install it yourself. PS: I heard nothing wrong w/ Eric's tranny. It's about 11 time quieter than mine. |
Yeah its sweet and the tranny noise is my tires those Yok advans are load when they wear down :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Eric has the TIC kit. He has the kartboy shifter, rear stay bushing, Kartboy shifter bushing and rear diff bushings. He mentioned to me that he got it from some other place than TIC. You can only order the TIC shifter bushings from TIC. The TIC kit includes the Kartboy short shifter, rear stay bushing, Kartboy Shifter bushings and the TIC four tiny bushings that install just above the Kartboy shifter bushings. When these are installed you do not get any rattle through your knob because these things do not move. Unless of course the bolts get a little loose like mine did. I tightened them up and it is remarkable. It is those little bushings that make the biggest difference on the shifter feel. When it is in a gear the lever will only move a hair side to side. Scott and Phil both have this exact kit. Eric if you are getting rattle on the knob or any movement when it is in gear you either do not have the bushings or the bolts that hold them in place are too loose. It is very easy to tell from under the car. Just grab the two way knuckle housing that holds the bushings and give it a shake. If it moves at all, you either have the stock bushings or the bolt need to be tightened (extremo pain in the ass to reach with a wrench) The extra tranny noise that Eric's car has is probably due to the rear diff bushings and not so much the short shift kit. |

So do you have a palm tatoo - "prodrive"? |

u must be ghey then. you dont have the tic kit right? when i put my kit in the bushings translated a bunch of vibration through the stock knob and made it rattle. the prodrive knob that i got just for looks was so heavy it took the vibe out of the shifter and made it feel more complete. just my experience. |

Phil said it took him many hours - I think it was over two days! You will love it though Mike. My stock knob doesn't rattle. Although I may need to get the prodrive or the new kartboy knob so I can burn my hand too! |
well its on the way non-the-less. will post back when it gets here.
it's going to be in the mail tonight :) |

Welcome Clint. Thanks for all the great info over at IWISTI (I am NickSTI) over there. That set up is great. Now - the kartboy shift knob that you were raving about - do you carry it or should I order it from Kartboy? Thanks in advance. |

Your best bet is to order it from Kartboy. Our plans are to do some with Ticie the autocross cow on them, but that's a little ways off. Right now we're concentrating on regularly carrying whiteline stuff, and we've got another product in the works that I'd like to get out before it gets cold out. On top of that we still have some materials to test for heatshields and the 5mt sloppiness fix. If we can find time in there I'll do the knobs. |
You will not be dissapointed with this ugrade! I installed the full Tic setup, (KB bushings, short shifter, Tic bushings, rear stay) myself in about 4 hours. Make sure you have the correct size punches before you start (long ones are a must). Removing and installing the roll pin was the hardest part for me. Also, I have a one piece downpipe, which made clearance extremely tight. If you have the factory downpipe, and can remove the short section after the cat, you'll have an easier time of it. Be sure to use locktite on the three pivot nuts (2 underneath, one on top) and torque to spec, Ithink its Mine loosened up, and I had a annoying rattle. I shortened up the reverse lockout cable, and loctited the nuts, and no more rattle at all. Like I said before, it is really worth it, nice short, positive throws. No slop at all.

sounds like I will have a fun little project :D with lot's of rewards!!! :D :D
