Just talked to Glen... he's in the car about 3 hours outside of Houston, so he should be cool. I wonder how well his place will hold up.

tysonK 2005-08-27 05:24 PM

yikes!

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-08-27 09:52 PM

Damn... hope he has a strong hairdryer, cause there's a good chance all his shit's gonna be soaked in flood water...

It's okay, he'll just burn it all down like his last home to get destroyed. He's probably got fire insurance.

tysonK 2005-08-27 11:02 PM

Thats what I would do:devil: ! Is glen the dude with long hair you went on a Cruise with?

Why am I signed in as Tyson:eek: ?

I wonder if hurricane/flood insurance in Louisiana is any cheaper than earthquake coverage in southern california or the bay area. :p

sperry 2005-08-28 01:11 PM

So much for going to New Orleans for Halloween this year. That place is about to get erased from the map. Katrina is now a Catagory 5 hurricane, and the 4th strongest hurrican ever recorded in the Atlantic/Gulf.

Good luck to everyone that couldn't get out. This is the worst-case scenario. :(

I'm sure I'll be getting some effect from the hurricane too. Wish I had an umbrella.

Nick Koan 2005-08-28 07:47 PM

:( Good luck to everyone out there.

Like one of the meterologists said: "A high Cat 4 vs. a low Cat 5 is basically the difference between getting hit by a Semi Truck and a Locomotive, either way you're still dead meat."

Kostamojen 2005-08-28 11:11 PM

Would you rather I mention the 40-60 foot waves? :P

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-08-31 08:22 AM

That place is fucked but good... they're abandoning the city because of flood waters spilling in from the broken levees. It'll be months before it's inhabitable again...

sp00ln 2005-08-31 08:26 AM

Where's OUR foreign aid for our natural disaster?

Nick Koan 2005-08-31 08:27 AM

Yeah, looks like a lot of the city is destroyed. About 80% covered with water.

Hugo Chavez (you know, the guy Pat Robertson wants to assassinate) wants to send aid.

Best Video of the coast so far http://www.wlbt.com/ 20 minutes of it from their helecopter.

You will see a number of extrmely large Casino barges literally tossed inland a thousand feet or so...

And New Orleans is still being F'ed because of a broken levee, high river levels, and no way to patch it...

Atlanta is running out of gas. I just paid 3.19/gal for regular and a girl at the pump next to me said she passed a place that was 4.26/gal. I should have bought a non turbo.

I was gonna ask you about that... I guess the city has an 8 day reserve, and you're on day 3 already. :(

The two stations closest to my house are both empty. I had to find one in a industrial area. The local news says some places are over $6 a gal now. I just hope my Legacy has gas when I pick it up tomorrow.

Kevin M 2005-08-31 02:49 PM

I've always been of the opinion that weather should not be news- tornadoes happen in the summer in the south, then hurricanes. In the north and the Rockies it snows. It's hot in the Southwest. But this is the exception to that rule- holy cow man.

JoelK 2005-09-01 08:20 AM

I'm currently in Alabama between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. I've been amazed at the general lack of power/cable (which means internet for me). Many places got power yesterday, but we're still out. It really didn't seem like that horrific of a storm in Tuscaloosa, but the power is down none-the-less.

Oh, and gas prices are shooting up here, too, and most gas stations only have premium (I'm glad I got a turbo, at least for the moment). I felt pretty good about filling up last night at $2.79. It was the only place lower than $2.99 for premium, and I'm sure all stations are above $3 now.

I may be heading to New Orleans (slightly south of the Mississippi river) on Monday. My aunt had to evacuate before Katrina, but she didn't pack well and is being allowed to go back for one day on Monday to get whatever she wants to take, and they won't let the residents come back for at least a month.
