I love modest mouse, I'm bit of a snob about them because I liked them before they got big. I still like them and all.

The two times I've seen them play I thought they were awlful. From the sound of their albums you would think they would be a kick ass live show. Maybe it was the location or the setup but I was really let down.

cody 2005-09-16 05:49 PM

Yah, a girl I used to work with had seen them three times and she said that twice they were awful and once they were amazing...so I'll keep my finger crossed. I can't not go when the venue is two miles from my house and it's only $30. I'm not a big fan, but I really like their music...especially when I'm drunk for some reason. :D

tysonK 2005-09-16 06:36 PM

You should go. It's not like they play here a lot. In the past year Reno has been doing a little better getting some decent bands.

Libila 2005-09-16 06:37 PM

I don't know your definition of "hard rock" but there are a lot of bands, mostly hardcore, that come through Reno.

The hard rock bands I like include Tool, KoRn, Sepultura, Hed PE, Def Tones, System of a Down, Mud Vein, and a couple others.

You had me at Tool... then lost me with Korn. Especially since you capitalized the R.

Forgotten 2005-09-17 11:25 AM

At least you tried Tim. Haha

Hmmmm, maybe. I always thought of bands like Tool, hed pe, and Deftones as pioneers, but I'm not a music buff by any means. I used to be into Ministry, NIN, and KMFDM, but I lost interest. (Although I get very nostalgic when I throw on Pretty Hate Machine or Downward Spiral).

To be honest, the only KoRn album I like is KoRn. It's been played out for years, but songs like Ball-Tongue sound so amazing on a good system. Tool is the most amazing live band I've ever seen by a lot...but I'm not as into Aenima and their newer album. A Pefect Circle did a really good job at coverin the Beatle's Imagine though. I have the music video and it's pretty cool.

I'll have to check out MBV and Front 242. I hadn't heard of them.

I'm not a fanboy for any of the bands I listed (except maybe Tool and deftones), but I was just trying to give Libila an idea what I meant by hard rock. To be honest, I haven't heard any new hard rock that I like for a long time. The ones I listed are just the ones that I'll still listen to sometimes. Mudvein is new, but since I saw them perform on Konan, I'm less of a fan. They looked fresh out of Hot Topic. :~:

Even System of a Down sucks now. :( Nowadays, I listen to mostly Electronica: Dara, AK 1200, Cari Lekebusch, Baby Ann, Terri Mullan, James Lavelle, Ellen Ferrato, DJ Rap, to name a few of my favorites.

I also like Radiohead, Coldplay, Janes Addiction, and Modest Mouse (as mentioned before).

In the past I've been a huge fan of Primus, Del the funky homosapien (Hieroglyphics), Mr. Bungle, Nuclear Rabbit, Pharcyde, Spearhead, Sublime (who I still love, but obviously they won't be coming out with any new albums with Brad Nowell singing :( ), Rage (remember when they first came out? They were sick!), Nirvana (Kurt Kobane (sp?) is who inspired me to grow my hair long in Juinior High. I finally cut it all off a couple years ago, but I still recycle and stuff.), Pink Floyd (talk about pioneers! They're shit is amazing), Beastie Boys (they get old but still put on a good show), and Eminem (Yes I even liked 8 mile).

I still like most of the above bands, but they're new shit either sux or they have broken up and I've gotten tired of they're old albums.

masterbating is free.

MattR 2005-09-17 03:55 PM

The New oasis in Sparks has a LOT of shows every week, many hard-core bands play there.

I really like the Liquid Lounge, downtown on Lake St., between 1st and 2nd. They have a lot of bands there, and good DJ's from time to time. Also, right next door to Liquid is the Green Room. Those are my two favorite night spots right now.

I would suggest you pick up a RNR (Reno News and Review) Newspaper, they are all over. You can always show listings and club happenings in there.

cody 2005-09-17 03:58 PM

Nice. Thanks for the advice Matt. I do check the R&R frome time to time. I'm definately going out tonight. If anybody wants to meet up, let me know.
