I need tires, but I'm poor!
Situation: I have a lotta bills, hospital, cell phone, insurance, rent, all basic bills but that doesn't leave any money for anything else. Winter is coming and I need tires bad. My front right is past secondary rubber because of when my wheel bearing/knuckle/hub/axle went out ($733 later, still paying for it). I need tires for my 16s bad but can't afford much. Where would one find a good deal on tires? I tried searching but apparently every thread ever mentions the word tires. Help a brotha out?
Edited! Sorry Dean, 205/50/16 is what I need. That's stocker 99 wheel specs I think. |
PM khail, he may be able to help you out.
|
I am assuming you are looking for 205/55-16 All Seasons???
There are at least 2 Used tire shops in Reno that can set you up with some decent ones For probably right around $100-150 Mounted and balanced. The Khail discount on anything from Tirerack is unbeatable, but you have to pay cash. I'll go look for a decent cheap option. Then maybe Cody could set you up with mounting??? |
Ouch, 205/50-16s are not a large production size, and thus much more expensive, and fewer choices... The Kumho ECSTA ASX may be your best bet at $79 retail. Khail may be able to get them down to 60 something... Used is going to be a lot cheaper. Or finding someone with a set ofRE92s in their garage.
Did you dump your stock 15s? Used: Rays: 329-1106, Hooten: 786-5452 Both on 4h St. |
Buy some WRX rims and tires from someone local, then sell the wheels on ebay. You might even make some money off the deal.
|
Might call Costco as well. Sometimes they have screaming deals, and a bunch of us are membenrs if you aren't.

Assuming you 15s are steelies, they will be cheaper to put rubber on... 195/60-15s are much cheaper... The ASXes from tirerack retail for $48 in that size. I'd put the all-seasons on those, and then maybe some summer tires on the 16s later.
|
But the steelies are so ugly and brute looking. =/ I'll just try to find 205/55-16s or 205/50-16s

If you want some Hankooks:

If you go 205/55/16, you get many more options, and they are cheaper. 205/50/16 is more of a performance size so not many cheap all seasons are out there. I think the cheapest all season around last time I looked was ~$55-$60 a piece in 205/55/16. As Dean mentioned, to get the discount you must pay cash and must pick them up at the warehouse in Sparks. Shoot me a PM with what you want and I'll get you exact prices.

RE: Jonny's situation Dude, if it comes down to you needing safe tires and you don't find any 16's, I could probably rustle up some 15's (steelies) with OK rubber for little or nothing. I've got a matching set here with plenty of life left, and a friend in Gardnerville may have a slightly mismatched set sitting around. |

I have several connections at used car dealers, I will look around for some used ones for you..are you sure they are 205/55/16? They throw away more good tires than you could imagine.
|
205/55/16 or 205/50/16 (preferred)

East side of Carson on 50. Bob's Discount Tires. Good prices.
|
HAHAHA, Bob's Discount Tires. That's funny. Seems like the name of a place they'd have in some game or movie for copyright purposes. I'm still in need so I'll check.

Well my dad decided to help me out.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=7 So, not bad really. I need to find out if I can pick up from the Tirerack warehouse or not... |
