ALMS News, BMW and Lexus in for '06
 

Looks like PTG BMW will return to the ALMS GT(2) class next year..
The new GT2 class is going to encourage more sedan/coupe cars to enter asside from the huge number of Porsches that made up the class in 05.

"For the past two seasons, Team PTG has competed in the Rolex Series' GT class, reeling off 17 victories in 26 events and winning the 2004 manufacturer's championship. That series' decision to allow tube-framed GT chassis with a bolt-on body didn't meet the mindset of BMW to directly market its wares"

Grand Am is making some interetsing moves, so far it's lost Lexus and BMW teams..who's next?

Also, Lexus has shifted it focus from the Rolex Grand AM Cup and will fund a two car Lexus IS350 team in the ALMS GT class as well...!!!!

ALMS is looking awesome for next season...

Now, if only Subaru can get a Legacy GT team together, the GT2 class would be perfect.

Wait, Rolex is allowing tube-framed touring cars? That's stupid! The GT cars will be just as fast as the prototypes! It'll be like JGTC cars out there! I can't wait to see a tube-frame Pontiac GTO chase down and pass a Rolex Prototype for an overall win. :lol:

Looks like for all the recent success of Rolex, the better series is still going to be ALMS. Which is fine for me, since I always liked ALMS better anyway. :)

Yeah, I really don't understand the Rolex Series' thinking, allowing the tube frame cars will all but remove the upstart teams from the series, They'll need all factory teams .Maybe they want to step it up a notch, hmm..

I prefer ALMS too.

Yeah, it looks like the these cars will be in a sub-class of GT2S (I assume for sedan), which will be scored with GT2 cars in ALMS but are not eligible for 24 Hours at Le Mans.

Though, ALMS is working with ACO to get these cars eligible for Le Mans.
